Would anybody actually like to make Genos a real game?

Yeah voting could be cool.

But I still want a answer.I mean someone is gonna lead this right?

It’s Feveth’s project, after all, it was his idea, and he’s been programming for years.

I mean apart from Feveth.

As far as I’m aware, Feveth and Solo are coordinating things at the moment, as they are quite simply the ones bringing this project together. I’m sure that official positions will be decided upon in the near future, though.

I think this should be approached kinda like all those mod teams do…
A site about the game (optional, mainly for publicity so I’m not sure this project needs one), a channel on irc so that the team can gather and talk about what needs to be done in a more direct way than a forum post or an e-mail, perhaps Solo can add a forum thread about Genos so that the importand stuff can be written down and also everyone should be able to post ideas and suggestions without meaning they will get in but just to make sure no really good ideas are lost and also keep the community involved

And yeah a design documend is the first thing that should be done imo as well…

Feveth: I no longer own Saga I’m afraid…
Could you tell me what programs you use for 3D modelling again and what formats it can import? I just want to make sure that you can take the work I do and finish it up (unwrapping and what not) since I wouldn’t want to start doing things and then find out it can’t be used lol…
I use milkshape 3D btw. It’s an ok program but not many tools in it so a lot of things that would be done nearly automatically in other programs have to be done by hand in this… It can however export in quite a few formats.

By the way that screenshot I posted is very messy looking on one place cos it’s a bit too many objects together… What’s behind the human model is a hut with a couple chairs, a bed with pillow, a stack of wood for fire, a couple barels, a couple cooking um things and a couple glasses and bottle placed on top of the barels. That’s why the wireframe lines are so dense in that place. Oh and those things outside the hut could maybe be skinned to look like some kinda crop thing…

Is there a way to send you guys the models anytime soon? You can’t really judge if I’m good enough from that wireframe shot and I don’t want anyone dissappointed when I actually start working on things…

I really find the irc channel a must to coordinate actions and I also have a lot of things to ask about modelling for this project and also DarkBasic and how it handles things…

This should help you guys decide easier if u want me to help…it requires Direct X 9 to view. Follow the instructions on the picture on how to use it.
U can also tap right click in the view to get various rendering options (like enable wireframe to overlay on top of the smothed view, disable the smoothed view so that only wireframe remains etc)

I will delete the page later on, it’s on a friend’s ftp.

sorry…

Well, here’s my version and ideas:

Looks like good rendering to me, Al3xand3r. What does everyone else think?

Hehe, shades of ff8 Arcie. I like how it’s integrated to the game more though.
But Focus should be on the main gameplay however no?
Feveth is the only programmer and I bet getting the main gameplay to a decent level is hard enough without having to consider other gameplay mechanics like that.
Should just focus on making that small quest thing I suggested with a couple areas to get the basic gameplay right and then if possible after that try and add neat touches like Solo’s suggestion of the dragon landing or your card game

By the way guys what do you think about making a final fantasy like world map instead of the Saga map? I think it would be nicer to fly with the dragon to the areas yourself rather than just “click it” on the map and be there… Should be done very very huge though to give the sense of travelling… kinda like in the FF games really, I think it would work great. And include random battles…and maybe have camp areas like in Saga to rest

I saw there’s an “Rpg world map” demo on the dark basic site so it’s possible yes? I didnt download to see how good it is though. There also was an “RPG Battle demo” didn’t get that either though. Screenies looked neat.

I downloaded a demo of some space sim game and I noticed the engine runs really slow for my specs and for how the game looks…I hope games can run better cos if I get low fps on 3Ghz then I can only imagine how games run on slower systems :S…

Well, another idea I had which I stupidly forgot to include was the idea of the rider and the dragon levelling up individually, rather than together. This means that, unlike saga, not using the gun for a whole exp. level will not power it up; you have to use it to power it up. Bonus exp. are awarded for working together and building the symbotic relationship between the two.

Travelling between places sounds interesting Al3x. Maybe a shooty section inbetween. But imagine (in Saga) going from the Valley to the Seeker Stronghold. You’d probably get about 5 levels just doing that over and over.

And FF8? What do you mean? Never played Final Fantasy. Was there a card game in that? Because the one I talked about was the one I was developing personally (ask Scott)…

I didnt mean your card game is a rip off or anything like that. Just that the only rpg I know that includes a card game for extra items and such is FF8.
And you are right maybe there shouldn’t be battles on the world map…I’d still like the travelling…and there could be secret well hidden areas and such…

By the way guys, Sega can sue us even if the game is not retail. Copyright laws have nothin to do with that.

So maybe we should change the name into something else? Maybe just “Genos” or whatever? Maybe Abadd can help out more with how to go about this… (And just cos Abadd is nice enough to not wanna sue us doesn’t mean that the lawyers of such a big company will not go ahead and do it if they spot us) I’d just hate to see the project killed after work has been put into it.

I’d also like to see an original story rather than a direct continuation but that’s just me… (think of Star Wars:Kotor. An authentic SW experience without messing with the continuity of the movies at ALL)

Also…where’s Feveth? :frowning:

And Lagi, would u be able to help out as well? Or too busy with work?

I’m torn between liking this idea for the world map and… well, not liking it so much. On the one hand it would be very cool, but on the other it could either be tedious (i.e. it would take you a long time to reach different areas) or unrealistic (i.e. it would clearly be a scaled-down, unreal world, which would kill the atmosphere a bit).

What do other people think?

Don’t worry Al3xand3r, I very much doubt that Sega would actually go to the trouble of sueing us over a fan game. There are many examples of such things about, and none of the authors ever seem to get into trouble over them - Feveth’s previous “Shenmue Zero” project would be a prime example.

As long as we clearly indicate that it is not an official game and that it is not made by Sega, (but that it is based on an original game that was made by Sega), we should be fine.

As far as I am aware, games companies view this kind of non-profit thing in the same way as fan fiction or fan art - that is, healthy, free advertising.

There’s also examples of companies that have taken actions against things like that however. Do we want to gamble that?
And I don’t want to sound harsh but I doubt that many ppl have even heard of Shenmue Zero so that can be a reason on why no action was taken against it…

By the way all I’ve shown here is just me messing around, showing u what I can do and such, it doesn’t mean I’m making them for u guys to use since I still dunno what u need me to do

The boss from the 2nd level! Wee!

Hmm, I thought it’s Episode 3, the forest level :-), ah well it’s been years, I don’t remember well

Updated the first compilation of models to include the Ep3 boss (As seen above) and a very very plain and simple shellcoof model…made just for laughs, nothin real serious…
Hope u guys like these… :

I might be doing something wrong, but that link seems to go to exactly the same hut/dinosaur/guy model as before. Just thought I’d better let you know…

Try deleting your temporary internet files folder and then going to the page again.
And it’s the same page and scene it’s just updated with the addition of a couple more models than before. If you happened to only see the first scene after the update then ofcourse you will see it the same since it’s the same link.
