Would anybody actually like to make Genos a real game?

I’ve been programming for more than three years, and I created Shenmue Zero, a 3D prequel to that series. I think we can really get something going here. I love the Genos trailer, and I’m all ready excited about it, even if Sega isn’t making it!

We could so do a follow-up to Saga, base it off of one of the fanfics where Saga left-off, and like, you get the idea. ^-^;

So what say you?

Actually, I’ll start work on in immediately. I’ll post pics when I think I have something decent.

That sounds like a great idea, I’d be with it all the way. Unfortunately my programming skills are quite limited (to the point of making an ASCII maze game) but I’d be keen to work on the storyline of the game.

I know there’s already some ideas floating around on various threads on this forum of what fans would like to see in the next game - the return of the old style of Imperial ships, an Imperial civil war, and a possible evil Orta. There’s a few ideas for starters.

Who else would interested?

I don’t want to crush your hopes, but be realistic.
and don’t put so much energy into a PD game that would never view daylight.

better make something original that’s even better than any PD game you could dream of. start writing a “game design document” wich is how most game development starts.

I think she’s planning on creating a fan Panzer Dragoon game - not one that would ever actually be released on the Xbox or anything. And if that’s the case, then why not? I’d love to see a fan made Panzer game - something that is basically non existant (at least, I’ve never played one).

Yup, if u guys remember I tried starting something like that when I was a newcomer

Anyway, if you really want to start something decent you shouldn’t go off like that and work on it all by yourself “until u have something decent to show”…
Even if people here don’t have much to do with game creation a lot of them can still write great fanfics therefor could help with the story and plot and also most of the old timers here know the panzer games inside out so it would be kinda crazy not to use that

On the light side the game mechanics will propably be easier to get to a decent level than it was to make shenmue zero (which I don’t know how good it turned out as I haven’t played it) since it doesn’t include as much interaction and the battles are turn based…

Also you might wanna setup a proper team and assign duties… Some ppl here do things like 2D or 3D art and that would be great help as well…

A small suggestion: if all this does kick off don’t try to create the whole game right away, I think it would be best to think up of a very small quest that would require less than a handful of characters and a couple of areas to be finished and concetrating on creating that and getting the mechanics right and testing how everything works together and when that is at an acceptable level that’s when the full game could be created with a good chance of being good…
Developing like that will allow for easier concetration on the exact aspects of the game that need to be made and then when all is done it would just be a matter of expanding all that to a full game rather than one small quest.

For a panzer game you might need to do the testing thing twice, once for on dragon and once for on foot gameplay…

Another good thing about following that route would be that when that is done it could be released to the community and get feedback for it and then doing all the necessary changes based on the feedback before creating the whole game
Imagine if u did all the hard work and u saw that it’s fundamedals don’t please the community in practice even if it sounded good to them on paper… this can easily be avoided with my suggestion

Anyway this is too soon to talk about these aspects I guess…
I think the hardest thing will be to set up a team that is up to the task and then getting a good design document.

I’d be able to help some with 3D modelling however I don’t think my skills are going to be a good asset since I can’t UV map/skin/animate at all (I plan to learn but at the moment I have been way too busy to give this much time) so if I made something it would have to be finished by someone else…and that someone else would maybe be better off creating something from scratch on their own…
Still if someone can UV map/skin but not really model it could work that way…and someone else that can animate but again not model…anyway you get what I mean…

rant end
Hope this takes off for real  would be great to take part in or even just watch it develop and evolve

My lil fanfic (which should be MUCH bigger right now;ill send you something in a day or 2 Solo) - 02 is not the only thing i write ya know.

I’ve been working on what I call project Zergoon (PanZER DraGOON) which is suposed to be an original game picking influnces from my videogame preferences. Also when I started it I decided to put some misc ideas for a PD game on paper.

I might post them here later if ya want.(but not the whole picture).

Yeah, I’m not too worried about how long it is going to take, because it’s going to take a long time. I prolly worked 500 good hours on my last game over a year (from planning to finish). I just have a fetish for Sega I suppose! :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually started make a very simplistic Panzer based shoot em up written in a programming language called dark basic (it’s a very advanced version of basic, that is used for making games), basically, it looks like a more colourful version of Panzer Dragoon Mini, I managed to make one enemy that flys towards you, and put in the ability to change the camera angle.

Unfortunately the enemys/dragon were extremely badly drawn because I had to make them myself and i cant draw to save my life, especially on a computer, also it sort of grinded to a halt when i had to put in an equasion that would make the shot move to the point where you’re aiming at, which I have no idea how to do.

I also have to put dark basic and all the file I made for it on my new computor before I can continue making it. But if i ever finish it i’ll be sure to let you all play it, if you want. Oh, and if anyone can think of an equasion to make the bullets move, please, please, please tell me it. : )

If I were you, I’d create a really small quest to start with, to get all the hard work done (such as the battle engine, main character graphics etc). Then I’d expand if the opportunity presented itself.

Using Propyan characters:

Hero finds village

Donater gives hero gun, tells hero to find anti-hero

hero finds anti-hero, fights anti-hero

That sort of thing.

Arcie didn’t read mah post :

If you made them smaller they would be more appealing :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually use DarkBASIC.

Cool, got any tips for my firing sub procedure?

this all sounds great…

/me cheers Feveth on

So what say you?[/quote]

Haha! Lol, you wouldn’t happen to have any one in mind?

Well, anyways, I would try and help anyway I could. Maybe…who knows? This all sounds relatively cool, and I guess we could always start simple.

Oh, I plan on making an RPG. After Shenmue Zero (3D adventure, fully voiced), this is going to be much easier. I can’t use skinned models, so it’s going to look kinda like Panzer Dragoon Saga graphically (but more detailed), and I want it to play the same. Seriously, this will be easy to make over a year’s worth of time. If somebody wants to write their fan-fic (original or continue-story based) into game scenario material, I’m all for that. I’m going to need somebody who is really good at drawing to come up with character designs, names, and places. I’ll put everything together and model, since I know the ins-and-outs of the two programs I use (3D Canvas + DarkBASIC). This process is faster and easier to do. I’ll even unwrap the textures.

Anybody who can make WAV or even some decent Panzer-style MIDI would be appreciated as well. (Make MIDI files at least four minutes long, and loop them yourself, because there is a slight pause on looping songs).

First and fore-most, somebody needs to pick a story from the fanfic section so I can start getting some ideas. AIM: YusakuEX / PM me to send files and art, etc.

I had a chat with Feveth on AIM about an hour ago, and I’m going to try and create a storyline for the RPG. I think an original story, rather than one based off a fanfic, would be best as it could be created from scratch with gameplay in mind.

I hope some others here can think of things that they could do to contribute. I’m sure some people could draw some decent concept art.

One idea that I had for the actual controls is that there could be a way to “land” the dragon. One thing that was missing for Saga that was included in Zwei was the ability for the dragon to run along the ground at certain points. How hard would it be to program a feature so that if the dragon was close to the ground the player could press a key and the dragon would land with the game switching to the walking controls (Up moving forward rather than up, etc)?

If as you say you can’t use skinned models then why is there a need to unwrap textures at all?
And since the models won’t be skinned I don’t think you can do it “more detailed” than PDS…even higher poly and more detailed 3D models will propably look less detailed due to the fact they won’t have a skin

No offence but let’s be realistic  this game won’t reach in quality or scope PDS and starting it in hopes that it will do that in any aspect will just end up with people dissappointed in the end. Let’s just make this a fun project and try and get as many ppl as possible involved in it rather than a one person does it all deal…unless ofcourse that’s necessary because noone else is able to help in one area or another.

About the music I don’t think it will be against any laws to use PD Series’ midi tracks as well since it’s an unofficial non commercial project. The name and background story and such will be used anyway so it’s no different with the music either, is it? Especially if it’s not the original tracks in mp3 or other format and instead just in a recomposed midi…
And ofcourse if possible use original tracks as well
(Perhaps same could be done for sounds, those “sound test” music tracks are maybe going to be a big help here too…)

About 2D art we have a couple people that do that here REALLY good, like Atolm or An0mnidjdgdgjk (sorry forgot the full name lol…where is she anyway : sigh) but I suppose it depends on if they have the time to help out or even if they feel like it

Anyway these are all my opinion, feel free to ignore all/any of this
