Well, if you’re looking for proof, I don’t have anything physical.
But, let’s just say I heard it straight from the horse’s mouth.
And it was changed for the US version because, well, it was kind of cheesy.

Hm. You’re nothing if your not cryptic aren’t you Mr. Abadd?
How so?
Because the dragon should never talk.
Ever.
That’s your opnion. He talked in Saga and it dind’t sound ridiculous.
When did he talk in Saga? I dont remember that
That’s the Heresy Program talking in Saga, all the “coolia Lagi” ever did was squeal, don’t forget they aren’t united anymore, the dragon in Orta is just Lagi, no Heresy Program involved…
Wait wait wait.It does looks like it’s the Heresy talking, but then agehn what do all those dragon heads mean?
That was the dragon’s ‘other half’ i think, Lagi the coolia, popping out from inside the ‘program’.
Didn’t that give you the impression that it wa sindeed Lagi talking with us?
i think another way to phrase this question (which may be more to the point) is:
do you think the dragon is the heresy program’s pawn?
or do you think the dragon is the heresy program’s physical world manifestation?
when it showed the “impurity” being cast out of the sestren, was that just the heresy program’s “power” or “influence” leaving the sestren to change a coolia into a self-directed heresy dragon? or was that the actual heresy program leaving the sestren and posessing the physical body of lagi?
i’m not sure what i believe about it entirely, but i always drew an allusion to the christian concept of god and jesus
sorry if my heretic typings offended anyone
If it was just his “influence” why would he have to “exit” Lagi after the end of Saga? So, yes, it was indeed the actual Heresy Program living inside Lagi as one of two halves as has been mentioned a lot of times. But no I don’t think the Lagi half was just a “pawn”, I think it worked a lot like how the DV worked with Edge…
like an… “enhancing passenger”?
so the heresy program did exit the sestren entirely and entered the body of a coolia, but it more just transformed and reprogrammed lagi rather than directly controlled it? then at the end of saga, the program removed itself but the lagi psyche still remained?
i guess that makes sense
I had never really thought about it, i just considered those little inbetween level topographical map-esque scenes as simple narration of the story. but i recently played through orta again and i kept in mind that it was supposed to be the dragon narrating, but there were a number of things that didn’t make sense…
in one of the earlier sequences it says, “the cold stone walls and heavy chains were all orta had ever known” or something to that effect. but it would mean that the dragon had just been watching her the whole time and never moved to save her. and instead waited until the dragonmares and the empire had been deployed to step in. of course i’m sure that would be easier than doing it when there were only a few seekers running about… maybe lagi needed the dragonmares to break the wall down for it
if it is the dragon, it also refers to itself in third person- saying things like
"the dragon had protected her."
“the dragon looked so feeble.”
“As it the dragon could sense her confusion…”
the voice of the narration is the same voice that you hear in the sestren when you reach the deep memory cell with the heresy program’s recording. but that would make sense since they are basically one in the same.
and after lagi died, there was a final entry that talked about the dragon dying and the dragon pup being left behind…
i’m just curious now as to what you meant when you said it was the dragon.
also… in the credits it doesn’t have a vocal listing for the dragon OR the heresy program. was this person left out of the credits? or maybe shiro saito was on double duty since abadd is the only one who kinda sounds like the deep voice of the heresy program… although it does have a listing for sestren, but i would think that this is supposed to be the female voice that says things like “an unrecorded presence has entered the system” and “security wall opening”
furthermore, ever notice that she says something that sounds like “sega cosay cola” when you go into pandora’s box? she says something similar when you are transported into the memory cells like “sega cosay ???”
it’d be cool if sega made a limited edition soda called sega cosay cola
I’m afraid I can’t help you with the narrator dilemma, but I’m fairly sure that the dragon’s / narrator’s “voice” is the voice listed as Sestren in the credits. This same voice says the (apparently newly-recorded but meant to be old) line “Purging of bug initiated” in a memory cell, and it is also used as the voice of the Heresy Program. (But the Heresy Program arguably did “become” the Sestren AI when it took its place at the end of PD Saga and allowed itself to be destroyed).
The female voice that says various things in the Sestren network is actually the voice of Azel. As you can imagine, this makes for even more confusion…
ooooooooooh yeah… i forgot about that. although it does lend support to the theory i threw out in another topic suggesting that azel died (or abandoned her physical body) BEFORE creating orta as a way to explain why she wasn’t there to protect her…
but it seems like she has lost her consciousness and only acts as a security system now… i believe she refers to orta (or maybe the dragon?) as “master” at the end of the level in the ruins.
if we’re assuming that maaya sakamoto wasn’t just doing double duty for the voice of the ruins and azel…
If I remember correctly, Abadd told us a while ago (in his infinite teasing) that the Sestren network currently spoke with Azel’s voice because it had adopted it when she hacked herself into the system. It sounded like he meant that only her voice had been absorbed by the system, anyway, not her personality, consciousness and self (which would correlate with what we know, as it doesn’t seem to literally be Azel talking to us).
Not that it’s ever easy to work out what Abadd really means in his PD plot-related posts, but hopefully he’ll point out if I’ve misquoted him or got the wrong end of the stick.
To tell you the truth that was exactly what I thought of the Azel-Sestren deal.
In my mind Azel simply reprogrammed Sestren to welcome Orta and use her own dronish nature to give it her voice.
Of course that the dragon wasn’t really welcome since Azel wanted to test it.Less some other unknown creature attempted to will itself thru Sestren…
In my opinion, Lagi was attacked because Orta was travelling with him, not the other way around. Why would the system attack its master?
The dragon isn’t it’s master!Orta is closer to be it’s master than Lagi is since Azel is the real master.
