Whats behind Gash?s mask?

The title says it all, anyone knows the answer?

Gash’s deformed face. I seem to remember someone telling the story of how a coolia wounded him while he saved someone, but I’m not sure since it’s been over 10 years.

Is there a pic or image of this?

Nope. Edge is the only person who has seen it.

Darn, is one of those mysteries that let me curious.

By the way, according to one map on this website, there are many other towers to be found, do you think that Sestren is really destroyed, or is it possible that there is a backup for Sestren that allows it to control the remaining towers?

Hmm, I don’t recall this… anyone recognise the story? Possibly this was a fan explanation.

Panzer Dragoon Orta covers this plot angle to some extent. Although, it’s not considered canon by all; indeed the writer of PDS had intended the events after PDS to play out differently than what happened in PDO. However, generally the idea in both games is the Heresy Program took over Sestren’s role as administrator of the Sestren network, and then the Divine Visitor destroyed the Heresy Program to complete the task of ending the Towers’ control over the world.

The Heresy Program may have even have been designed as a backup program to Sestren in the first place, given the similarity in appearance to the Sestren program (the gold “dragon” seen in the flashbacks at the end of Saga). However, the Heresy Program certainly had other objectives that Sestren did not contain, so it couldn’t entirely have been a replication of the same program.

I don’t recall for sure what, if anything, is said about how Gash got his gash… but I do seem to think it’s implied somehow that bio-engineered creatures did it. It’s apparently symbolic as both a reminder of the Seekers’ grievance and as a mask to his authority: “No one would suspect a man like me to lead anything. Deception is our way of life.”

I never played Orta, so i need to clear some things up.

After all what is the Heresy program, isn?t the Heresy program the thing that created Lagi and wasn?t it purpose to destroy Sestren? And after all who is the Divine Visitor and what was his purpose?

The divine visitor is you, who presses the button. The heresy program is half of Lagi, the other half is the mutated animal half. In the end of Saga they go their separate ways as Orta reveals, so Orta’s Lagi is just the mortal, animal half, returning to protect Orta.

ANd yes, Sestren Exis, the entity, is destroyed. That was the central unit of sorts. Parts of the actual network remain and are used in Orta.

I really don’t think it was a fan explanation Solo, I wasn’t into that stuff at the time. But since it’s been so long perhaps I confuse it with a different story mentioned in the game.

Perhaps it was implied somewhere in the game, as Heretic suggests - I just thought I’d remember something like that, having played through the game numerous times. All the dialogue from PDS can be found in a rar file on the site - if you can find the part where this was discussed, I’d be very interested in reading it.

It makes no sense, the divine visitor is not us, the player, but someone or something that was in the game that we, the player, control, at least thats the way i think.

The Divine Visitor is definitely “you, the player”. That is why the game has you to input your name at the very begining, so it can refer to the Divine Visitor by name.

It blurs the line of reality. To the player, it’s just a game. But it is as if the world of Panzer Dragoon is real and the inhabitants consider the concept of the player analogous to a godlike being, shaping the events through means unknown to the people of that world.

Yep, and that’s why it specifically asks you to input YOUR name, your REAL name, as opposed to just a “name your character” or whatever.

Here’s the quote from the ending as it is in the text files, there’s no doubt about it. Placeholder text for the player inputed name of course.

…]
The only one who can free us
is the one from the outside world.
The player’… You are the Divine Visitor.
Now, Divine One,
The voyage that began,
when I tried to return the world
into the hands of the people…
The duty that spanned
thousands of years,
is about to come to an end.
Now… press the button,
…the soul who dwells inside Edge,
the player’…
…]

And this is the beginning with the menu choices.

The one who controls Edge,
what is your name?

The player’s name is displayed

It is my real name.
No, it is not.

If you choose the second, it asks you to input it again.

Solo, I looked through the files briefly and I can’t find it. Then again, I also can’t find the simple “implication” Heretic mentions so maybe I wasn’t looking for the right words. Or it was just my young imagination at the time filling things in for me. Lol. Oh well.

There were Ancient records that mentioned the Divine Visitor. This leaves us with several possibilities:

  1. The Divine Visitor is the player, the Divine Visitor in the ancient age was someone/something else.
  2. The Divine Visitor is not the player, but the player takes on the role of the Divine Visitor for the duration of Panzer Dragoon Saga. This could mean that it was the same Divine Visitor in the Ancient Age, but “played” by someone else.
  3. A future prequel will feature the Divine Visitor!

I believe that the “Divine Visitor” is a metaphor for death. Edge saw the bright light at the end of the tunnel, and this symbolises him passing away.

We’re all just metaphors, guys. Shadow won’t even acknowledge that we exist. :anjou_sad:

So, death was controlling Edge? Wut? x_X

As for the ancient records, well, the whole thing was meant to break the 4th wall… To you it was just a game but that’s meant to hint that it’s all real, to them at least, and they had the prophecies about you, the player, the divine visitor, destined to come free them of the Ancients’ Will… Which you did. I think specifically asking for your REAL name is enough evidence of that, it’s not just an “are you sure?” or “accept?” like in other RPGs… And of course it’s all a lot of trouble to even introduce the concept of the divine visitor when they could just have you control and name Edge as opposed to an arbitary entity that only shows up twice and is never really explained as anything more than, you. I don’t think a mention in the ancient records changes that at all.

According to your Facebook, YOU are the Divine Visitor. So based on my previous post, no, no I’m not going to acknowledge you exist!

Yes, in a way. Think of the Divine Visitor like a virtual Grim Reaper.

I’ll stick with the 4th wall/player theory…

Actually Solo just came up with a good one. Maybe the Sky Rider is the Divine Visitor?
