So, now we know that a Sega Ages version of PD1 is up-and-coming, and that it might be a remake of some sort rather than a simple re-release. The inevitable question is, what would you personally like to see in a remake of the first Panzer Dragoon game - what kind of improvements, additions, changes and expansions would interest you the most? I’m not so much asking what you think should be done or what you think is likely to be done with the upcoming game; just theoretically, what would you really like to see?
Sega could start by fleshing out the Sky Rider’s background, but maybe that would be going a little too far. Unless the original creators themselves (as in former TA members) are handling this “remake”, any story changes can be deemed suspect to question… like in the questionable Shining Force remake (don’t get me started on that unfaithful piece of trash).
Kyle could be a bit more talkative too. >:)
Edit: The problem is, I doubt this will turn out to be a complete remake in the conventional sense. Sega might just give the game a few extra coats of polish. We have to remember that the Dragon Force rerelease was slated as a remake too. We shall see.
I agree with Duke that it will most probably just be more polished with a major face lift.
What I would like to see is an expanded back story and fleshed out universe. The orginal will inovative and intriguing still seemed stale and almost lifeless in a sense. More dialogue would definitely help.
I would like to see the original PD1 in PDO’s engine.(it wouldn’t have glide attacks or morphing of course).I would like to see the PD1 scenarious in today’s graphics.Awesome!!
Also I would love to see the exact same intro and outro FMV’s but in different camera angles. It would be a different experience and yet nothing would be changed (which I think it shouldn’t).
As long as the story is a little more coherent than the original, I will be happy. The original PD, story wise, was a mess and I don’t think even Team Andromeda knew where the series was headed at that point.
also, a little explanation on the Dark Dragon would be a big plus too.
I’d like to see some top quality graphics that don’t mess with the original art style… Other than that, more bosses and more and longer levels would be great as well. I’d also appreciate it if the gameplay was brought closer to PDZwei in both movement style as well as the berserk attack addition. A pandora’s box with some cool extras (I have no idea what) would be great as well. I don’t think the story should be expanded at all, just perhaps lengthened with more cut scenes and what not, but not in order to add more elements to it, just things to make it more entertaining without changing the point of the original in any way. Ie show us more of what the dark dragon and the tower are doing in between levels, or have Kyle describe his journey like Lundi did, stuff like that. A remake of PDZwei would be good too if included with the same additions as described above for PD (u asked what we wanna see, not what they’ll likely do!) lol.
Bah…remakes…why in my day we didn’t have remakes…we had original games–and they even got better. No siree, we didn’t live in the past…mmmhhmm…we kept creatin’ new and better games…mmmmhmm…
This remake is utterly pointless.
Everybody that wanted to play it could, that wasn’t the case with SAGA. Far better if SEGA remade that instead.
Anway I know SEGA made some changes, but still have my doubts over the Ages range. The 1st game is perfect and reamins for me the best in the series, and the best game I have ever played.
If SEGA must remake it.
Then keep almost everything the same, and just make it high res and runing at 60 fps, and make the intro full screen (my only problem with the orignial), and that’s it.
It’s a master piece and shouldn’t be messed around with too much

Apart from the Sky Rider’s background and who he actually is.
The story was far from a mess, and I?m pretty sure TA knew exactly what they were doing as they were already making plans for Zwei way before they finished Dragoon.
All the mysteries adds to the game and the overall world of Panzer Dragoon.
Every game opens as many questions as the game answers.
It?s a thing of magic ,and quite unlike any other game. Things like that help keep the series special, and sites like this thrive on this ;).
It for me is on of the Trademarks of the series.
To go along with the other Trademarks (for me). Like every game in the series as stunning water effects (for me the real half mark of the series), music scores, bosses, and CGI intro’s

To do that SEGA would have to redo the intro from scratch. And that’ one thing that should not be done.
Its still the best intro ever to any game. Its just as stunning now as when I see it some 10 years ago.
Still to this very day I get shivers up my spine and my hairs stand on edge when the Blue Dragoon lets out that God almighty roar after the death of the Dragoon Rider

Bah…intros…why in my day we didn’t have intros. We had that title screen deal that flicker’d there for a second or two…mmmmhhm… and all ya did was press start and yer was in da game. Sonny, kiddies these days don’t know what gamin’ s’all 'bout…mmmmmhhm.
(okay, this is the last old school talk-down for awhile; relish it)

Hey you’re speaking to an old school gamer here.
I grew up on the ZX Spectrum 48k (what got me into gaming) and my 1st console was an Intellivsion (which my mum got me on the cheap in 1984).
Hm i want good graphics, more background informations about Sky Rider ore something, more Levels and longer Levels. The PD Games are always to short they must be a bit longer. Levels should have more routs like PDII, but with many ways.
Hm yeah, thads all i think. Best will be if a new or a remeake from PD Saga cames. In the New Game the Story with Orta, and the Remeake um yeah should be a cool RPG like the classic one ^^
I really doubt Sega is going to spend a lot of time and money revamping this game (for a number of different reasons). How is the Dragon Force “remake” shaping up, btw? Has that even been released in Japan yet?
I don’t know if it’s released but to me it looks like a port not a remake (though there may be some filtering in the sprites but I can’t tell from the small screenies), Unless the screens shown so far are showing the actual original game like the one screenshot from PD.
Its really could be one of the better SEGA 3D Ages games.
From Magic box
“Here are some new images of Sega’s Sega AGES 2500 Series Vol. 18 Dragon Force, a remake of the classic Saturn simulation RPG, the PS2 version will many new elements, including new character designs, 3D field maps, 1.5 times more scenarios, 170 playable characters, 20+ new tunes and 600 new dialogs. The game will be released in Japan on August 18, for 2500 yen.”.
Also I agree with Duke . Can’t see much being added to the Saturn version of Panzer for the PS2. Maybe high res 60 frame a sec, Transparencies effects and full screen intro and that about it
Umm I’m pretty sure that it’s going to have all new graphics, otherwise there’s no point in it. Considering they included the original in Orta, would it make any real sense to release the same game with an improvement or two sold on its own? I don’t think it would even classify as a “remake” if it only has that.
Even Space Harrier got new graphics (both new 2D sprites as well as a 3D mode) in its remake as far as I know, I don’t see why Panzer Dragoon would not when it needs it even more. Hell, the thing was so pixelly it looked as if it was running in software rendering rather than have any kind of 3D acceleration at all.
Not to mention that it’s probably going to be easier to make a proper remake rather than try and re-sync the game correctly in the new 60fps mode.
