The Order of the Phoenix *Spoilers*

Who’s read this book? Personally I found it a very enjoyable read. The characters are great and the little details of the magical world kept it interesting.

So, what did you like or dislike about this book and why?

Things I liked:

  • Professor Umbridge… a great villian who has always some new decree for the students to overcome.
  • The moment when Fred and George flew off on their brooms into the sunset (okay, maybe it wasn’t sunset but it sounds good :)).
  • Harry behaving more human. His anger from the stress he faces shows and is realistic. I don’t like heroes in stories who are perfect and never lose their temper.

Things I disliked:

  • Cho Chang …she’s quite a weak character in my opinion. Harry shouldn’t have fallen for her, you can tell he’s mainly interested in her looks.
  • How either Harry or Voldemort have to die. I dislike stories where the future is layed out like this, with little room for the main character to make choices. Hopefully the author will add some unexpected twists in future books, but it seems to me as if we already know how the 7th book is going to end.

I’ve read this book. I found it to be one of the best in the series in fact. Let’s see…

Things I liked:

*The length. Made it more enjoyable for me since I like a long read, and it made me happy to know that young children would be frustrated and intimidated by the longevity of it all  (I’m such a sadist sometimes :P)

*How the students and professors at the school were getting sacked left and right and the school had gone to hell.

*How Fred and George finally got their premises and made big money at the joke shop.

*Luna Lovegood, because she’s one of those characters that are clothed in mystery. I hope to see more of her in the future of the series. Maybe Harry’ll fall in love with her? (there’s always the possibility)

*The realism in Harry’s behavior. He feels that he is carrying the world on his shoulders, and is very frustrated throughout the book, often becoming snappy or even mean.

*The centaur taking over Divination classes.

Things I didn’t like:

*The way Professor Trewalney talked. I just didn’t like the way she talked, okay? It wasn’t mystifying or anything as I got the general feeling that those were Mrs.Rowling’s intentions, her speech was just stupid.

*The lack of Quidditch. Harry and the Weasley’s were banned, wtf? And that stupid Weasley song that the Slytherins sang.

*Sirius dying. I felt that it was just a misplaced death. Like it wasn’t supposed to be him. I wanted to see Hermione get killed off, but nooooooo!

*Grawp.

*Cho Chang. I thought that she was selfish for not considering Harry’s feelings and that over all she was the typical “cheerleader” type. And her boyfriend that died over the summer? She probably only went out with him for two weeks tops! Get over it. It was a year ago. When my relatives died, I got over it in a few months (not entirely of course, but the grieving process was passed). Anyway, I’m sure you get my point.

whats a book?, hehehehe

Indeed, define a book. It’s actually very hard you know.

Anyway, back on topic, what did you think of the book Saga Wing (if you’ve read it)?

Jeezus, i thought it was dissappointing. Nowhere near the quality of books 1-4.

The thing I really hated was, of course, Cho. The fact that her description reminds me of someone doesn’t help, plus the fact she reminded me that girls are always total idiots…present company excepted (bows to Ness and Snowie)

I thought Umbridge was a terrible character as well…she was pure upper class scum, but she was so upper class and yet supposedly threatening that she went beyond scary to downright ludicrous.

Just my thoughts.

I thought the book was ver decent, but aside from that I totally agree with you about Umbridge and Cho. Cho actually reminded me of someone too, but I won’t mention her here as this is strictly a no-spam board. Umbridge wasn’t scary at all, she was just annoying.

I did a little investigation. Here is a quote from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban where Harry first laid eyes on Ms.Chang. Or at least I’m pretty sure:

“Their Seeker, Cho Chang, was the only girl on their team. She was shorter than Harry by about a head, and Harry couldn’t help noticing, nervous as he was, that she was extremely pretty. She smiled at Harry as the teams faced each other behind their captains, and he felt a slight lurch in the region of his stomach that he didn’t think had anything to do with his nerves.”

Am I sensing a sole interest in appearance or what?

I seem to remember these things for some reason too.

Oh, another thing I liked about the new HP book.

The fact that James Potter (Harry’s dad) was a total jocky prick when he was Harry’s age and that Snape almost had a good reason to be an asshole. It was good because it made Harry question whether or not he wanted to be like his father anymore.

About Harry and Cho:
Harry was an oaf who was so inconsiderate to Cho you’d think he’d was devoid of all ability to interact with the opposite sex.
Cho, meanwhile, was also a bumbling idiot, who had the emotional stability…of a five year old who has not had potty training yet.
The book on the whole was nice. Just one ugly romance. Nuff said…XP

I think Tha Sharp Edge pretty much summed it up well

I am /so/ never reading any of those books or watching the movies.

Not that I particularly have anything against them, and I’m sure that they’re actually pretty good, but too freakin’ many people love them, and I’m getting kinda sick about it. Thus, there will be no Harry Potter action for this dragon.

So basically, you’re not going to read them because everyone else reads them.

Maybe you should stop eating, drinking and breathing too lol

lol, well I’ll watch the movies but me dont wanna read the books…1. I tried to read LotR books and that didn’t go well:P 2. I dont want to, really I just dont like them and I saw people read them only because some popular people were I was not going to follow like the rest of those sibbling sheep. You probably have your own reasons, but me jujst dont like them^_^ I’m sure ya enjoy reading them and that the good thing.

That would cause you to miss out. The Harry Potter books are great, but the movies are teh suck. I only watched em because they were Harry Potter in the first place!

Yeah - because of the books i never plan on watching the films because i have my own idea of what the characters look like, the school, the voices, etc. Waching the movies would ruin that IMO

Oh and this is for Solo!
Book: A set of written, printed, or blank pages fastened along one side and encased between protective covers

Anyways - i was also disapointed with the 5th book. For some reason is just didn’t “thrill” me as much as the first four. In my opinion - the best book of the series was #4, followed closely by #3

What annoys me is that Harry was stupid enough not to open the present that sirius gave him earlier… sigh if he did that then sirius wouldn’t have died
