The next PD game should be

Haha.Quite the opposite.SEGA would never release a console “just for the fun of it”.

And the Neo Geo wasn’t directed at hardcore games. It could very well compete with other consoles. It ahd great games.

SEGA will surely release a new console on the market. It’s just a matter of time.

Look you don?t have to tell how good the Neo Geo was (and still is). Games like Last Resort, Power Disc are some of the best games I have ever played on any system.

But the fact is the Console was never sold at a loss. And asking ?300 plus for a single game is hardly mass-market console.

Just look at what happened when SNK tried to go for the mass market with the Neo Geo CD, and Neo Pocket.

Its cost millions alone in R&D to make a console these days. Never mind the costs in making games and advertising your console and games. Plus you need major 3rd party support.

Well those are things that SEGA just don?t have, and you?ve got more chance of wining the lottery that SEGA share holders giving the go-ahead for a mass market console.

What SEGA do have is a rich Arcade background, and a loyal following. SEGA could make a home Console based on say NAOMI III.

Sell it at cost price, and just sell it to order (like on it?s web site). That way SEGA would save a ton on advertising costs alone.
SEGA could ask say ?100 per game, and just release say 4 to 6 games a year. That way SEGA could still take the risks with games like REZ, but still make a modest profit even if it sell just a couple of than units.

Again people could on buy the games direct on SEGA web site. That way SEGA saves loads on distribution costs, and knows exactly how many copies of the games to press.

The masses don’t want a SEGA console anymore. The DC proved that.

You’d be surprised by the amount of people interested in one.

I think you are “drakening” the scenario here.Sega is getting some profit lately (from what I know) and I’m pretty sure their situation is goona improve.

In 2 or 3 years time I think Sega can think about a console.

They said it themselves, if they eventually CAN in fact do it, they will…

With the much needed planning of course…

You’re treading dangerous ground here. Many western developers have had a huge impact on how games have evolved in recent years. Quite a few of them are even British: Core Design (Tomb Raider), Team 17 (Worms), Psygnosis (Wipeout). Need I go on?

I?m not mate, but people have seemed to forget how close SEGA was going to the wall. It was only thanks to a personal 80 million donation for the late great Okawa that SEGA is around today.

Yes SEGA would love to make a home console, but in today?s market you need billions to market and develop a console.

To launch and make the DC cost SEGA close to $500 million dollars, and that was back in 1998.

Yes SEGA have been making very nice profits for the past 2 years, but it going to take years of steady profits before the Sammy and SEGA shareholders even think about making the money available for a mass-market console. SEGA shareholders haven?t been paid a dividend for years

SEGA still as debts, and its only the Arcade side of the business that is making profits. The consumer side of SEGA is still losing money.

Plus you have to be realistic. SEGA name is mud in the mass market. After 3 failed consoles, people aren?t going to be so ready to part with their money. Only the Die Hard SEGA fans will.
Plus SEGA couldn?t get 3rd party support for the Saturn (never mind the DC). It would be even worse for a new SEGA console.

I love see SEGA back in the consumer Hardware market, I love to see a NAOMI III based machine. I still want a Handheld Saturn. But can?t ever see SEGA making a mass-market console again. But a Hardcore console yes.

It be out in a few years time

NICE post mate. Codemaster are great too ;).

It was a USA based Team Lobotomy (sadly no more). That made the best FPS ever, and 1 of the best Saturn game around in the shape of Exhumed.

Plus what about the likes of HALO, Prince Of Persia, Kung Fu Chaos (way better than Power Stone II). Those are all class western games.

You kiddin?

Legacy of Kain,Myst (had to name them :D),Splinter Cell,KOTOR, so many more…

I even think the western companies have one thing that many japanese developers often don’t : sense of clich? and progress.
