Sonic Next Gen . Graphics To Die For

re-looking at pictures, i think they all look good, and Sonic doesn’t really seem "out of place"
however its just the first picture which seems strange… where you have a dark urbanised city and then some bright red springs??

that is out of place… i mean what else will they be used for except for Sonic and his friends?

Well, that can be said for the entire Sonic series, pleasant countrysides, beach resorts, casinos, technological megapoli, space stations! All have springs!

Wow. Have you never seen a sonic game before? :anjou_angry:

yeah but in SA1 and 2 (where its set on earth) they actually looked in place! (for some reason) in pic one it just seemed… weird

Having seen a bit of footage from Sony’s E3 press conference, it looks to me like the levels in this game suffer from the “suspended 50 feet in the air” problem that’s plagued the 3D Sonic games. I just don’t get why every level needs to appear to be flying above the locations they’re supposed to be situation in. Think Speed Highway or the latter parts of Windy Valley in SA1.

I agree thats one thing thats put me off the next gen sonic games in a big way. I hate how a single tiny mistake sends you over the end again and again to instant death. I’ve stopped even trying to play them now it frustrates me so much.

Exactly, and a lot of the time it’s a glitch in the game that sends me to my doom. But I still want to know WHY THE LEVELS ARE FLOATING SO HIGH IN THE FIRST PLACE. Pffft.

Edit: And by the way, some of the footage from Sony’s video showed you controlling Sonic while he drove what appeared to be a Sonicised Humvee. Because he’s not fast enough already, I tell you.

Yeah thats the thing I don’t get everybody has been asking for ages for them to stop making levels like that. So many people would prefer a solid land where you are on the surface and you can run around and explore without all these ‘gaps’ to fall in. (Not to mention the floating levels are so limited - there is one or perhaps two paths max and thats all you can take.) Yet why hasn’t a single designer at Sega listened?

There were quite a few levels in Shadow TH where the game took place on a solid platform with relatively few pits. SA2 was also fair on that front.

I’ve never played Shadow so I can’t comment but as for SA2. I thought personally it was worse than SA. Especially the rail grinding levels… They couldn’t have had a level thats more ‘pit’ if they tried. (I know some people like them but I can’t enjoy it when a single mistake and you are dead - it’s so stressful and frustrating.) That was what really turned me off, I never ended up finishing SA2.

I liked Final Rush myself; it almost made me fail my Maths AS-level because I couldn’t get the theme music out of my head. It’s just practice, though, and you soon get used to it.

Now, Final Chase on Hard difficulty…that’s frustrating. ****ing Artificial Chaos and their tentacle reach!

yah me too! except i got an A on my Maths AS level =D
i love SA2 tho, well mostly the Chao. Been spending a long time raising them to update my site… now i’m almost failing my Maths degree x.x

Just downloaded and watched the trailer for this on my 360. It’s a joke. More shitty new characters, Robotnik (Oh no, wait, I’m sorry, ‘Eggman’) has a completely new and retard voice, and the levels shown look like pants. Sigh. Same old failures.

Well, the name “Robotnik” has always been a creation of Sega of America. He’s only been known as Eggman in Japan (Hence the Egg Carrier, Death Egg, and so on). So might as well drop it. =D

But oh bittered one, in action the game does look nice if you ask me. And as to the voice, hopefully it’ll be like Sonic Adventure, with a tasty language select so we can listen to some proper japanese voice acting.

this looks like sonic adventure + prettier gfx

I also hope that they have fewer of the high top levels, but if they’re done right i won’t complain. The gameplay vid (gameplay 3) on ign looks pretty nice, though!

oh, and if you wanna see really good cell shading, look at this installment of gundam evolve:

Don’t abandon all hope just yet mate.

Saldy Deem Bristow died a few years back. That the reasons for Eggman new voice, shame really has his voice acting in SONIC ADV is up there with the best I’ve ever heard , More so when you 1st meet inthe Sonic Adv (loved his laugh). So that’s one thing you can’t blame SEGA for or the name Eggman , I mean’ The Fat Controller’ name had to be changed in the USA version of Thomas The Tank Engine, because of the political correctness that exists in America and more and more over here.
So don’t try and be a clever dick over that or the new voice please :anjou_sigh:

The reason you need Shadow riding in a ATV Is for the classic SONIC set piece moment and to add to the vavle of the game, and that happend since Sonic 2 ect. Otherwise it will be slaged off inthe press for be all the same and being able to finish it in 3 hr’s (taht saldy is today’s market)
Worry not , this isn’t SONIC Team USA but SONIC Team Japan and they’re really working hard to make this the best SONIC game in years.

So before slaging it off, play the game 1st . Bceasue it’s looking the best SONIC game in years

I’d hand that one to Sonic Wild Fire, but Next-Gen is shaping up most nicely too. =D

Thankfully I’d never even dream about being a ‘clever dick’. That’s not the sort of person I am. But shockingly I am allowed to have an opinion, and mine is that the new voice actor they’ve brought in for ‘Eggman’ sounds far too much like an upper-class crumpet than a vile, evil dictator. I didn’t know Deem Bristow had passed away, and God rest his soul, but it can’t have been too hard to find a voice that sounded at least a little like the character has become known to sound. So yes, I can blame Sega for that. As for political correctness, surely ‘Robotnik’ is a slightly more polictical correct name than ‘Eggman’? Either way I can’t see the reasoning behind the name change.

‘Classic Sonic set piece’? Driving a vehicle? The whole point of Sonic is that he can run really, REALLY fast. He doesn’t need a vehicle, so if Shadow is as fast as him then Shadow shouldn’t need a vehicle either. It’s inexplicable. It’s stupid. It isn’t Sonic in any way, shape or form, and it isn’t going to be a ‘classic’ moment gamers will remember in years to come. Sadly, I think Sonic Team in general seem to have lost the plot. Maybe I’m wrong - and deep down I hope I am - but I can’t see this being as solid a seller as it could be.

The voice isn’t has bad as you’re making out and doesn’t sound that much diff . I just think you’re making a big deal out of nothing .
And yes Robotnik is more PC that’s why his name was changed from Eggman inthe USA/Europe .

Ah Sonic not driving it mate , I guess you must have been so pissed of with Sonic II or Sonic Adv. What was the point of Tails in a Plane give that he can fly. Again you’re making a BIG deal out of nothing . Seeing as the SONIC levels look mint and true the series.

And in parts Sonic or his friends have used planes, snowboards ect at some point inthe games
