Shadow of the Colossus

ooo I remember this thread. You guys made me get this game! Thankyou. This game is brilliant. Truly the best PS2 game I have ever played. Ico is pretty awesome too!
Topic revival! :anjou_happy:

Has anybody here ever been able to defeat the 13th Colossus in Time Attack?
I did it! Although I have to say it is the definitive meaning of the phrase ‘It was a bugger’. I beat shit loads on time attack but I don’t think I saved cos all my records and cool items were gone :anjou_disappointment:.

I like muffins.

I bought this game two weeks ago.I loved Ico and wanted to play SotC bad.
My cousin lent me his copy and the framerate was all over the place. He doesn’t take good care of his cds (and the dvd was pretty scratched) so I though that was it and stopped playing it 5 mins into the game.

I didn’t want my first experience to be bad.I’m waiting for my exams to be over and done (next Wednesday) so I can fully immerse myself.

But from what I heard framerate is a problem of the actual game.
That’s said :anjou_disappointment:

Does it ever feel unplayable?Bear in mind that I’ve not read this thread (fear of spoilers).

Is there any truth to the rumors I’ve read concerning a PS3 SotC?If so will it be any different?Should I wait to play it on PS3?

I’m fairly certain the PS3 iteration will be a direct sequel to Ico, where as SotC was a prequel. I could be wrong but that’s what I can remember from an interview a while ago? So yea it will be quite different this time. I’ve no idea what Team Ico have instore, no hints at all from any of the staff within the team (in regards to actual content) although apparently there will be an online multiplayer component (unless that’s a seperate project altogether…).

The framerate issues exist in my copy of Shadow of the Colossus as well Gehn, and I purchased the game new. I think this is a general issue with the game. It’s not unplayable by any means, but it would have been nice if the framerate had been fixed before the game was released.

I guess if the game had been released on a more powerful console, the framerate might have been better, but since the series was developed at Sony this probably wasn’t an option. I would have preferred a game with worse graphics, but with a better framerate… however, saying that, I can only begin to imagine how beautiful the next game in this series will look running on the PS3.

I don’t remember any interviews saying that the next game will be a sequel to Ico, but I do remember hearing about a possible PSP game from the Ico developers - does anyone know what happened to that?

Well Here is what I could find:
ICO director confirms next project to be on PS3
Fumito Ueda reveals plans for his next project to appear on Sony’s next-gen console.

With Shadow of the Colossus’ development complete, some gamers are already wondering if its creator is preparing for its next project. And this week, the question was answered by the game’s director himself.

In an interview with Dengeki Playstation, director Fumito Ueda, who gained popularity with his first game, ICO, disclosed that he already has a few ideas simmering for a new game project. However, he added that none of them are far along enough conceptually to be built into a solid game like Shadow of the Colossus or ICO.

For the time being, it seems that fans of Ueda will have to wait until he comes up with an idea that he’s comfortable with. Though no one knows what Ueda’s next game will be, he did confirm that it will be a PlayStation 3 title.

Ueda admitted that the three years it took to make Shadow of the Colossus was a bit too long. (ICO was released in late 2001, so gamers had to wait four years until they could play his new game.) While Ueda hopes to release his next game in less time, he commented that there are still uncertain factors in developing games for the PS3.

In the portable sector, Ueda revealed he would like to make a game for the PSP. Ueda also commented that he has no interest in making games for mobile phones, even though that’s the current trend of gaming in his country.

While the ICO development team is known for its games that portray a realistic world and include lifelike graphics, Ueda thinks it would be fun to create a game that goes in a different direction, such as adopting the use of cartoonish characters.
“Ueda thinks it would be fun to create a game that goes in a different direction, such as adopting the use of cartoonish characters.”

All I have to say is: OH NOOOOOOOOO HE BETTER NOT!!!

Why not? He seems to work well with very minimalistic, impressionistic characters - cartoonish characters would be an interesting change of pace.

Gamers constantly complain that developers don’t push boundaries or do the same thing over and over again. I say let the man try something new and see what he comes up with.

Well, I disagree. After playing through the epic world of ICO and SOTC, I can’t see myself playing some cartoony game, even if it’s new and innovative. The atmosphere he created would totally change. Keep it new and innovative within the same ICO and SOTC world and keep the same graphical style.

The ICO and SOTC fans world most likely react the very same way the Zelda fans did when Zelda changed it’s graphical style from realistic, to cartoony kiddy graphics. Not that I don’t like the Wind Waker.

I’m sure if a new Panzer Dragoon RPG came out and it was all cartoonish the fans wouldn’t be very pleased.

Now if the game isn’t going to be in the ICO SOTC universe, then by all means I’m open to anything new and creative with whatever graphical style he chooses.

Just found something new.
Rumour: Team ICO is developing not one but TWO games

33 News on what Team ICO have planned for the PS3 has been hard to find, and their silence has been sorely felt in the Sony camp after their previous projects ICO and Shadow of the Colossus were so well received.

Yet a member on the PS3 forums (yes forums) has posted that he encountered a member of Sony Playstation Germany at the Motorstorm event being held in Germany. To add at least some justification and truth to his post, it can be confirmed that there was indeed a Motorstorm event in Germany today and those involved with Sony are often invited to join in the fun (some images have been attached).

The member states that at the event:

“I talked to a product manager of Sony Playstation Germany and he told me that Team ICO is actually developing two games at once with one being close to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus in terms of atmosphere and setting.”

It is known that Team ICO have been working on a game for the Playstation 3 and that they indeed wanted to stay close to the epic and artistic nature of their previous games. Yet it is nice to hear confirmation of this game, in addition to another mystery project.

News for Team ICO’s new IP’s may be revealed at Sony Gamer’s Day, or perhaps not until E3. Be sure to watch out for future announcements.

Going back to your earlier comment - he said nothing about changing the art style of the Ico/SoC world. He said it would be interesting to do something in a completely different direction, and I support that. The man and his team are quite possibly the most artistic group in the industry (IMHO), and I’d love to see what other ideas they could come up with. It might end up breaking their streak, sure, but it’d be worth it to try.

Well, from what has been reported it seems he’s making two games simultaneously. So one game could be an entirely new game with an entirely new style and play mechanic, and the other is most likely an ICO SOTC continuation with a new gameplay concept.

Anyway, I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us. Time will tell. :anjou_wow:

Finally played this game.Awesome!
Definately one of the best games I ever played.I don’t really need to say much more since most of it has already been said.

However I have one problem with the game. It’s music. It’s good (altough I prefer Ico’s;or maybe it’s because Ico has the most memorable theme - the final boss battle ) but the tracks are too small and since you hear them over and over again while battling the Collosi it can get pretty annoying sometimes.

Even tough I have already played it I have to buy Ico now because I won’t feel complete otherwise. It will be fun to replay it and connect some of the dots on less obvious stuff.

Overall though I liked this game a lot more than Ico (even though music is pretty paramount to me).It might very well make me buy a PS3 just so I can play it’s sequel :open_mouth:

I love the track “Castle in the Mist” from Ico, it’s really mood setting. SOTC has some excellent (and quite epic) tracks too.
