Anyone putting down the cash for it? It’s been in development for 4 years, created by the same development team at SCEA that brought us ICO. Like its spiritual predecessor, the art direction is amazing.
I probably won’t play it straight away, as I don’t have a PS2 to play it on, but I’m definately interested. ICO was refreshing experience to say the least; I finally got around to playing it this year and really enjoyed it. I’d recommend all PS2 owners here to give Shadow of the Colossus a try. If ICO is anything to go by then it should be amazing.
I will absolutely have to play it eventually, I’ll need to buy a new PS2 sometime though. Might just wait and find out how the compatibility turns out for PS3 at this point.
ICO is one of my fave three PS2 games, and I’ve been following Mr. Wanda’s (I think it’s still Wanda and the Colossus in Japan?) progress for a while. Some of the effects look amazing, as more of an XBOT seeing something like this on PS2 it always makes me sad there was never a team dedicated to making XBOX sing in quite the same way. Smilebit being the closest we ever got obviously. I agree it transcends the usual PS2 look, just imagine if the game had 3 times the texture capacity and pixel shading to work with?
I’ve the game, beaten 7 colossi, so far, good gameplay, great music and no storyline so far, which kills it completely for me, other then that it reminds me very much of panzer dragoon saga world
This is a master piece and one ofthe best games Ive ever played. I?ve so wanted a game like this for so long (it terms of scale) The art direction is almost with out equal , and just keeps on getting better . Even ridding the horse is a joy in this game.
Hanging on to a massive Colossus for dear life, all with the foor and backgrounds scrolling in the distance is simple stunning and one of my best gaminge experiences.
A few years ago SEGA used to make games like these :(, Wonder if the ORTA boys are up anything new, if they’re still with SEGA that is . Seen ofr heard nothing from them since Ollie King, not so long ago you couldn’t open a mag with out a feature on Smilebit
I was going to rush out and import a US copy, but considering the extras they put into PAL/JP ICO, I think it’ll be worth my while to wait. I already have 21 games bought this month, so I think I should probably cut back juat a little bit…
I think this is the first game I’ve played where I can say that Panzer Dragoon Saga has finally been topped, as far as art direction goes. I sold my brother on the game with the following video… spoils colossus #5 in the game (there’s 16 total), but it’s a small taste of what the game has to offer. Download at your own risk.
The flying colossius is one of the best gamming moments ever .
This game is a work of art if the ICO boys don’t win any awards for this then the industry needs a good kicking. Art direction wise this is even better than SAGA (well almost ).
Wonder what the ORTA boys are up too (if they’re still at SEGA) They’ve been so quite of late (after Ollie King) , I bet they must love this game , it so them .
Even down to the one man and his pet talking on the world (my fav part of the Panzer Dragoon series) , only this time its a Horse and not a Dragoon.
I’ve heard of linearity being a problem for the game elsewhere - apparently a lot of the fun is working out how you’re meant to defeat them in the first place, so a re-run would be like buying a crossword when you already know all the answers.
I had a similar “problem” with ICO. Stunning, emotive, and great game on every level from art direction to puzzles to gameplay, but after that first go through I never did sit down and play it like I did the first time. The story is seared inot my mind with such clarity that I get that Sixth Sense feeling when I try to replay it, as though the games secret twists are already lain out before me, and I’m just following the invisible line through the game again.

That is just utter rubish and no doubt come form SONY bashers .
Nobody hate SONY more than me, but this game is a gem and if made by the JSR/Panzer boys and onthe XBox or CUBE this site would be going mad over it.
I’ve beaten the likes of REZ, SAGA, ICO countless times but the game are so good they keep you going back for more. Its going to be the same with this game, going to replay the flying Colossus boss countless time on its own .
I really hate this , becasue its SONY this game will never get the credit it so richly deservers
1 and 2 yes, on itself they were not very good either in my opinnion, but combined with saga it’s great, saga had a storyline(other panzer dragoosn too) and although was lineair definately wasn’t repetetive
this game has basically NO storyline, its very repetive, you only fight 16 colossi and that is it, within 8 hours I finished the game
Glad we’ve established that length matters so much. Guess that means Panzer Dragoon Zwei isn’t even 1/8th as good as Shadow of the Colossus since it can be beaten in under an hour.
So what exactly is repetitive about Shadow of the Colossus that isn’t in any of the Panzer Dragoon games? I’m very curious.

They’re your views and that fair enough, but for me they are so wrong. To compare ICO or Colossus to SAGA is just talking the Piss.
To make any good RPG you need characters and big storylines , this isn’t a RPG There is a story in the game, and helps show the start of ICO but it really doesn’t matter when the gameplay is this good.
This game is no more lineair than a host of other games, and becasue one can beat in a few hrs means nothing. U can beat Panzer Dragoon, REZ in a few hrs but the game experience is so good one doesn’t care.
I rather that to 80 plus hrs of bullsh8t gameplay as seen in FF 7
