Sega's Road To E3 2006
Bringing VF4 to the PS2 which was firmly entrenched at the time, was understandable, but making VF5 a PS3 exclusive is mind-boggling. The PS3 isn’t even here yet, and yet everyone is convinced that it will dominate the market once again.

Sega is solidifying Sony’s grip on the Japanese market with this move.

If it was a consumer game I could understand it (give the rubbish sales of the 360 in Japan) But it isn’t and wouldn’t take SEGA long to get it up and running onthe 360. SEGA could have had a million seller easy, it sell loads onthe PS3 , but SEGA could have had a 200,000 seller easy onthe 360. More so as people are so in awe of the graphics this time.
VF4 onthe NA@MI II didn’t look any better than DOA 3 onthe X-Box. This time VF5 is pissing over Team Ninja work , from a massive height .
SEGA would have been the talk of the town with this news, but instead they blow it an thats what all the talk will be from now on.

AS for SONY I’m so uttlery pissed off with they underhand tricks and broken promises , There’ no way I’m getting a PS3 like SONY is had a sh8ting showing and looks another PS2 all over again. Then you the 360 and games like Lost Planet and it makes me sick to my back teeth . To think what SEGA Japan could do on that hardware but we’ll never see it .

I’ll stick with the 360 and have a Wii . AM#2 and SONY can just forget it . Otherwise SEGA having a pretty good showing
You changed your tune.Your usually optimistic on the games front TA so i’m suprised about your outburst.
I understand this furstration but this is only part of the picture. TGS will fill in the rest of the gaps in October.I think sega will publish second/third party games on 360 but will develop original games for PS3 mainly which is a shame because if Sega got the ground running with Xbox from their intial showiing we would have some phenomonal looking games. Alas we missed out on that and it looks that it will happen on 360 apart from the usual ports. I’m still expecting sega to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

SONY had the worst showing I can remember , only good old Konami came to the rescue again. It brought back painful memories of MGS2 demo saving SONY ass at E3 2000 and the part shown off never made into the game.

M$ have given the PS3 a sound kicking on the game and on the graaphics front, I though the days of jaggie were at a end , Then SONY go and split the users base , all this after the bullsh8t of 120 fps and 360 is true HD.
No doubt the machine is super powerful, but I seen what the 360 can really do, and what a good team like Capcom can do on great Hardware. Pains me to see SEGA back the PS3 will a top end IP that could have done really well onthe 360, and I’ll have no part in it
Heavily Sword looks ace (always said M$ should have bought the Kung Fu Chaos Team) but thats is, the rest either look adverage or down right poor.

Even the joke that is Wii had a far better showing . Shame as apart form VF5 SEGA having its best showing in years Sonic is back on the next gen consoles and PSU looks like a dream .

This for a machine that was ment to ship this month , if you listen to SONY

Hey, you only realised Sony ripping you off now :anjou_happy:

Seriously i feel this is going to be what brings them down in the end when people are fed up of the broken promises and go for the alternative much like what happened with sega half assed support of good systems and people went for the PSX instead.

The NWi is much more than a joke. I don’t understand why you don’t like this system.

Ah I wouldn’t be too concerned about VF5 being a PS3 exclusive. It wouldn’t be the first time a Sega exclusive ended up being less than exclusive. >.>;;

Sony haven’t ripped off anybody more than NCL . I think the Wii is a joke a too that pad is just usless . But I like the 3D look of Mario and the thought of true SONIC got me going, and I want to play Monkey Ball II and that FPS. Plus it be cheap of chips.

So far its like this .Impressions out of 10

M$ - 9. Would have 10 if not for the joke that is Too Human
Sony - 3 (all that for HS)
Wii - 5
SEGA - 7

For how disapointed you are with the Wii and how you think the pad is useless you sure want to play several games on it already - and you don’t mention even one of the 360 games shown in the conference. How come? If the controller is useless then surely all games made for it will suck. Get a grip.

7 my ass, NCL just about showed that many off.

I like the thought of a true SONIC even though the graphics are poor, and Moneyball is made for that controler , being a massive Mario fan its looks aweosme, I can put up with the crap control, just like I did with the rubbish DC control

As for M$ well lets see GOW , HALO III, Bioshock, Lost Planet (the demo is midblowing), Dead Rising looks bloody awesome and thats just for starters
So please space me , this get a grip load of toss

“NCL just about showed that many off” - Seriously, are you viewing a different E3 than everyone else is? Nintendo have a total of 27 games playable on the showfloor.

Mention all the system exclusive titles shown that are so mind blowing, not the likes of Bioshock that I’ll be enjoying on my PC…

GoW was looking quite boring really, amazing graphics, nice scripted sequences at the start of the demo, but the gameplay was similar to Killzone (the first) and like it could get seriously repetitive on the long term. Take cover, shoot, run, roll, take cover, shoot…

I’m desparate to play Crystal Chronicles, myself - I loved the first one.
Nintendo have a total 27 games playable on the showfloor.

The games you mention you want to play on the Wii are exclusive as well, so don’t bring the likes of Bioshock into the mix as that’s a PC title too.
I haven’t seen that many games for the Rev

Anway , I don’t give 2 sh8ts if a game is out onthe PC or not.
I’m not a PC gamers at all, thats a mugs game.
Fine if you got the money . I myself much rather play the game onthe Big Tv and not worry about upgrading the kit every year . The likes of Tomb Radier, FF could be bought onthe PC didn’t stop the like of SONY for paying loads to thet the rights .

And don’t worry Saturn or X-Box owners you could play Tomb Raider, FF , RE 4, DMC III onthe PC and here’s me thinking the like of DMC III were Exclusive to the PS2 *Rolls Eye’s *

I’m on about consoles, not PC’s . You see in 5 years time, the latest 360 game will look and sound as good no matter what model you have, or when you bought a 360. My PC was pretty High spec 4 odd years ago, now I can forget about playing the latest games

Well you said the games looked spectacular or whatever so I imagine you are all about graphics, so you should be more into PC gaming since you can upgrade all the time while your console will not look that much better in a few years, if at all.

As for the other ports you attempt to mention, many of those weren’t multi-platform titles initially (Resi 4, DMC3, etc), they enjoyed quite a few months of exclusivity so it’s not the same at all.

By saying “oh well I’m not a pc gamer” you sort of give me the right to say “oh well, I’m not an xbox gamer so screw whatever they do on it, I’ll go for the wii and pc” … doesn’t sound very good does it? Because it’s a stupid argument.

Even Microsoft, of which you love the Xbox so much, talked about Vista as a gaming platform just as much as the consoles…

Haha HALO II out onthe PC yet is it ???. We all know PC gaming is a mugs game so lets not even talk about PC games.

You can screw the X-Box all you want .To play Oblivion at the sort of detail the 360 can give you. You need a PC costing loads , and come the time to play HALO III one that will needed to updated massively .

It your argument that doesn?t work . To thing SEGA were 3rd party long before the death of even the Saturn, since they had PC ports too…
Did people say that back then, I think not .

“Haha HALO II out onthe PC yet is it ???. We all know PC gaming is a mugs game so lets not even talk about PC games.”

Blame the poor sales of the lame original that offered nothing new to PC gamers so it didn’t sell. Anyways, what about HALO? I just said don’t mention Bioshock. Halo is an exclusive series sort of and I never denied that so why are you bringing it out of nowhere just to make a point?

"You can screw the X-Box all you want .To play Oblivion at the sort of detail the 360 can give you. You need a PC costing loads , and come the time to play HALO III one that will needed to updated massively "

So once again graphics matter so much to you which reinforce the point that you should be all about PC gaming. Your console (regardless of which one you pick) will be outdated in a few months as far as graphics are concerned. By the way oblivion is yet another poor game like Halo (check the Oblivion thread in these forums).

You were talking about PC games in general. Bioshock isn’t the 1st PC cross over nor will it be the last . Like I said to play PC games with the detail a ?280 console would take a serious PC one that will be out of date this time next year , That’s no the case with console (that my point) I rather my money goes on games rather than updates to play the latest game. If HALO done so bad they’ll be not point in bringing out Part II right ?

Like I said SEGA been making PC games since the Mega Drive days , Nobody said they were 3rd party, becasue the PC is a diff market
BTW No need to check I own the game and can make my own mind up , and yes its not very good(don’t like the style) . But for those that like this style of game its amazing

Well, they are only bringing part 2 out on PC to pimp vista. if they really wanted it to sell they would bring it out on direct X9. The majority of users don’t move to a new version of windows until many many many months later. The fact it will be on vista quarantees low sales (that it would get anyway).

Anyway, no I didn’t talk about PC games in general, I talked about games like Bioshock which will be available on more than the 360 at the same time. Halo is an exclusive series, atleast for the many first months/years, so once again stop talking about it out of the blue for no reason. It’s an exclusive Xbox series and I never said it’s not just because it got a port so long after the initial release.

About Oblivion (or games in general since I don’t like Oblivion) needing an expensive PC to run as well as it does on the 360, well, you may wannna bring the graphics part in like the graphics whore you prove to be lately, but, I’ll say I don’t mind lower graphics settings when I can play it with a mouse and keyboard instead of a limited controller and get all the custom fan content on top.

And once again for Oblivion, no, it’s not an amazing game for people who like the style. Avid Morrowind fans (see Shadow for example) were very disapointed in Oblivion because quite simply it’s a poorly made game in many aspects. Atleast there’s some nice custom content to get for the PC version to help relieve the loss of the money…

You points about Oblivion are wrong to mod that game you’ll need a degree in Physics , and you need to play it on the Midrange PC to see how terrible it runs . Trust me you would not want to play it with the graphic setting turned down , and the same will be true of BioShock.

And there’s not wrong with the 360 joypad , true you can’t beat the aiming of the Mouse, but only a PC nut would say a keyboard is easier than using a Pad . PSU will be onthe PC and Consoles at the same time, wonder which version will sell more and which most people will talk about .

And yes I’m a graphics whore if Panzer Dragoon looks like cr8p I doubt most people here would have any intrest in it. Would JSR and REZ be has good with out the power the handle the Art Direction I think not . Graphics and sound count

Panzer Dragoon 1 looked like crap tech wise, 3D was way limited at the time. The art direction and gameplay saved it.

And no you don’t need a physics degree to mod Oblivion, you should pay a visit to the game’s forums and see all the great stuff people publish (alongside a lot of crap stuff). Research before making stupid arguments. I didn’t say I enjoy modding it myself anyway (I can model but don’t have time anymore), I do however enjoy the work of other people.

PSU isn’t the same as Bioshock since it’s going to be a port largely unsuitable for the PC unless you have a gamepad. The best choice for GAMEPLAY PURPOSES will be the console version. The opposite applies on Bioshock (and Oblivion) since Bioshock is a FPS primarily thus it WILL work better on a PC as far as gameplay is concerned.

Your arguments are getting rather desperate, when you bring shoddy ports that don’t take in account the strengths of the platform in the argument.

PSU could have been a great PC game if they bothered to use the keyboard and mouse combo as they should but Sega simply don’t plan to do that according to interviews. Of course it would still get lower sales on the PC since it’s not the kind of game that suits the average PC gamer. But then again, that’s yet another new element you bring in the discussion just cos it suits you, sales numbers.

sega looks good right now with their lineup, imo
but damn, I hate how they made VF5 a PS3 exclusive. I’ll be so happy if they announce it later on as a “time” exclusive and release it on the 360 (or release something like evo or final tuned on the 360)

PSU looks great! hopefully it won’t be a disappointment

Because it makes them money.

If you’re the weak(er) kid in the playground, of course you want to hang out with the popular one with all the friends - it makes you more secure.

As for not supporting MS, it’s understandable - how much money did they make off Xbox games compared to PS2?
A one console industry isn’t good for anyone whether they realise it or not.

But it now looks like Sony has secured Japan for the foreseeable future thanks to Sega of all the ironies.

Having said that, Sony can have Japan all to itself for all I care. I hope Japanese developers love programming for the nightmare that is the Cell processor in the face of no simpler alternatives. Sony forced this on them as much as they brought it on themselves.

VF5 may have been too hardcore for western gamers, but it needn’t have been an exclusive. It could have been a multi-platform game and Sony still would have remained the dominant player in Japan if people are assuming that the PS3 was going to come out on top there no matter what.

Sega is only hurting itself with this move.

Apart from V5 , which I can’t work out why they would sign a deal with Sony America .
SEGA had it best showing at E3 since 2002. Good showing and a soild line of games . SEGA seem to be back onthe right road and about form VF5 seems to be making all the right moves.

BTW, Duke SONY had Japan anyway , they don’t need SEGA , not when you got Square Enix in your corner
