Percentage of getting another NiGHTS or Panzer Dragoon? 0.000000000000000001%
PANZER DRAGOON is far from dead in Sega’s eyes it still did well for an early Xbox or any sega xbox game outside Sports and Sonic.
NIGHTS shouldn’t be made on principle unless they can really give out another stunning game. I suspect that Sega/Sonic Team has another one on the way though because of that 360 demo of SONIC which created such a fully realised 3d sonic world that using that power to create NIGHTS may be too tempting for Yuji Naka to resist. He’l probably say that now he finally has the technology to create the NIGHTS game he always wanted to make and it will be a PS3 exclusive,AAAArrrgggh!!!
Fascinating how you can read Yuji Naka’s mind like that…
Not often you compliment me ,thanks.
SEGA Suck my Foot! :P.
SEGA Next gen starts now. OMG I just can;t wait…

House of the Dead 4 Playtest
Sega’s next generation begins now.
by Anoop Gantayat
July 3, 2005 - At E3, Sega gave the press a sneak peek at its next generation of games, offering short clips of properties like Afterburner, Sonic the Hedgehog, Virtua Fighter and House of the Dead. We weren’t expecting to get our hands on any of these games for quite some time, but one of the games managed to sneak out in playable form today!
Heading out to the massive, seven story Sega Gigo arcade outlet in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district, we stumbled upon House of the Dead 4 on location test. Sega had an early version of the game set up for a two day period, allowing us to get some hands-on time with an actual Japanese-developed next generation game (all the playable next generation titles at E3 were developed in America or Europe). The game was set up with a large, wide-screen, high-definition monitor, contrasting nicely with the nearby Chihiro-based (that’s Sega’s Xbox arcade board) House of the Dead 3.
House of the Dead 4 clearly knows its roots. You’ll recognize the general look of the game, the frequent cinematic sequences that break up the action, and the cheesy dialogue that has made the series famous. We couldn’t hear the voices too well, but Sega’s managed to produce hilarity three times already, so we expect no less from House of the Dead 4. The game’s storyline focuses on a character called James Taylor as well as a girl character. Both look kind of like vampires, although we’re not sure if this is a part of the story.
In terms of content, Sega has made some big changes to the game. While blasting away at zombies is still the point of the game, the experience is more intense thanks to the massive number of zombies that come attacking. We were occasionally attacked by more than a dozen zombies at once.
Once again, you’ll find a good variety of creatures to blast. Some look like the normal blue-collar-worker zombie, while others don’t even resemble people. Some move slowly to attack, while others leap out suddenly, forcing a quick response.
Sega has continued some gameplay trends with this title. You’ll once again find clearly marked branching points in the level. One area of the first level lets you select from two different paths by shooting at a small video screen that shows a preview of the path. Similar to part 3, innocents seem to have been kept out of this title all together. The first level was all undead.
The switch to high definition makes HoTD4 stand out.
House of the Dead 3’s characters used shotguns. This time, Sega has gone to the next level, giving James and crew machine guns. It’s possible to shoot a lot more in less time with a rapid fire weapon. You have to reload by shooting off screen, but your gun holds plenty of ammo in one round. The game also has grenades, but we weren’t sure how to toss them.
The gun that you use to play has one cool feature aside from a trigger. A sensor inside the gun can determine when the gun is being shaken. You’ll often have to shake the gun in order to get out of situations, usually when an enemy has grabbed hold of you. The game seems to be capable of sensing how hard you’re shaking the gun, so shaking hard is the way to go. This is a fun new play mechanic – hopefully no one will get hurt.
The game comes together nicely for the final boss of the first level. This massive four-armed creature (whose design forms a part of the cabinet) fills the screen, chasing after you as you flee through a shallow canal. He’s got his sights set on making you into dinner, and he’ll break through anything that gets in the way. Occasionally, he’ll grab on to you, and you have to shake the gun in order to get free. You build up a meter during the shaking, which determines how long you can shoot the boss during the next phase of his attack.
As a next generation title, we were most excited about seeing how far the game raised the graphics bar. Sure enough, House of the Dead 4 is a good looking game. Despite the massive number of zombies on screen, Sega’s managed to up the zombie detail considerably. And these creatures aren’t shy about showing off the detail by filling the screen – particularly impressive with the first level boss, who likes to stick his tongue out at you. Lighting and environmental detail are also a step up from past titles.
This guy uses two guns a little too well…
House of the Dead 4 may be the most visually impressive arcade game ever made, but it seems to be a step below the visual splendor we’ve seen from some of the finer upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 titles. Aside from the massive number of detailed zombies on screen, the most striking visual improvements can be attributed to the switch to high resolution and the use of a high definition monitor. House of the Dead 3 looks last generation in comparison.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t determine the arcade board that runs House of the Dead 4. We presume Sega will make an announcement at an upcoming arcade show, and the reign of Naomi, System 246, Chihiro and Triforce will come to an end.
As for home systems, Sega has yet to announce House of the Dead 4 for any next generation system. However, given that every past entry has appeared on a home system, a PS3, Xbox 360 or Revolution release is likely.
Whoppee another new HOT^D game and guess what? Another speculation that this will be transfered to a system that can easily handle the graphix.
Well i heard this all before and i ain’t excited. I’m still waiting for the Xbox versions of VIRTUA COP 3 and VIRTUA FIGHTER 4 which many Sega fans were led to believe that they would appear on ther Xbox as “Sega was heavily supporting this system”. well we all know what happened at the end of that story.
While i do like the HOTD games i never saw it being a high caliber Sega game with the exception of number 2 and a game that barely lasted ten minutes on the X-machine isn’t something i want to necessarly purchase if it ever appears on the PS3(Let’s face it kiddies,Sega isn’t going to OTT support the 360>)
Gimme a gesture to truly excite a long suffering Sega fan.

I really don’t get the knockers of HOTD III is a simple blaster and the end of the day. Fun with top graphics and production vaules, I love it on the Box
I didn’t exepect the game last for hrs. Its shooter, what you expect VC III to offer hrs and hrs of gameplay
Its a start , and marks the start for SEGA on the next gen, at least they’re getting the graphics side right.
Nobdoy wanted a VC III or GS for that matter ports, but pants sales of the X-Box in Japan must have played some sort of roll into it.
As for VF4 well it looks for all the world some sort of deal was done with Sony, or faling that Team Ninja done a deal with M$ to keep it off the X-Box (becasue it would wipe the floor with DOA)
That’s not the point TA and you know it. I’m not gonna get excited and proclaim “sega is back baby” just because HOTD 4 is coming out. AS i said before a game that doesn’t last that long on Xbox for 39.99 isn’t worth getting excited about. I want a meat and potatoes game from sega a proper solid game that they haven’t been making for the last three years not more KFC style gaming that HOTD represents. Until something major happens liike a PDS,A new SHENMUE,or something totally brand new and ambitious and directly from Sega Japan and not a subsidary and not a Sonic Team title, then i will start punching the air for joy but until that happens i refuse to jump the gun.
Ok mate,
Its a start and when you hit a rough patch a start is somthing. And the easy way out is to play it safe.
HOTD IV show promise and I don’t care if it takes 30 mins or an hrs to finsh.
VC on the Saturn had 3 levels and that its, but its a stunning gem,
The Lost World can be finished in less that 30 min the Arcades, but I’ll give my right foot for a home port, same with GunBlade. This looks a big production with money spent on it, that’s a start for SEGA games of late
As Shenmue with SEGA are making a new Shenmue game ;), but I can’t help but think you’ll be waiting a long time for Shenmue III.
I agree I like SEGA to make a new games in the style of REZ, JSRF for the home.
SEGA should be 70 to 80 profits (ie more Sonic and VF games and the rest Creative and original (along the lines of REZ).
That whats I like to see, becasue then everybody happy.
Look i may have been kinda harsh in the reply but i do get passionate about Sega sometimes so it’s not personal.
I would have agreed with you if it wasn’t for E3. I just find it hard to get excited after defending them from detractors and not getting the E3 what i expect.
SHENMUE 3 was started in 2001 with a bunch of other games that SHOULD make their appearence by this year. Whether we get them in the shops is another thing and it sounds like they have been moved to the next gen machines.
Your right Sega is back but as i maintained they were never away. The games now are just fillers until the big meal comes along. It’s just i’m fed up of waiting ,that’s all.

Oh no need to sorry mate,
Nobody care for SEGA and wants them to turn it around more than me. People have a filed day, making fun of me and the other2 SEGA fans on the Republic site :P.
It so hard to defend SEGA, when they give you nothing to fight back with . Those tech demo and stuff like HOTD IV are at least a start.
I mean it was getting to the stage that SEGA could even make a good looking game. I love Spikeout but a 3rd gen X-Box it is not (Graphics wise), and I can?t even blame the PS2 for that.
I would have though nobody more that Yu and the rest of Shenmue lads wants to make part III and Part IV ect. But with every generation the costs involved go up , people will expect more details and better modelling. It cost some 70 million $ on the DC. God knows what it would cost next gen
It’s going to take a massive investment to get that project going, which I?m sure SEGA just isn?t ready to take just yet.
As for the other stuff like Illinois, well I?m in complete agreement with that.
SEGA said it would ship Fall 2004 and still no sign of it.
Why even get our hopes up with statements along the lines of …its one of the biggest production at SOJ, and how they were flying out 12 or members to conduct research ect.
Still no sign to go along with other promised games like Clockwork RPG, SEGA RALLY ect.
They better have a good showing at the Toyko game show and come out on the X-Box 360, PS3 flying. No jonny boy comes late this time
But then you realise that Segaq hasn’t put a decent game on this current generation or nothing killer A material. It 's looking very likely that all these killer A games are coming soley on the Next Gen.
