Good Lord, can’t you guys just get along and respect certain peoples opinons. I mean, from my past posts, I have been through many arguments, so you can see, I just want people to talk in civilized terms with respect for other people’s views. But one thing is for certain, I have to agree with parn, I don’t like the new sonic game either. The only sonic game I would buy from now on, is a remake of Sonic CD in 3D.
Well… in any case, just because Sega makes a lesser game doesn’t mean that I’m going to drop them like a brick. But that’s just me, over 10 years of fandom can do that to a man. XD

All I know is Shining Force Neo is an insult to the series.
I apologize for resurrecting an old thread, but I just wanted to say that I once thought the same thing. However, I saw some of the videos and screens from E3; and the game does not look that bad. While I’d much rather have a traditional Shining Force game, I’m going to buy Shining Force Neo and play it with an open mind. I’m not sold on the concept, but after some thought it sounds like it might turn out to be a decent game. The problem I have with it is that the name associates it with one of my favorite series’ (so in that way it is an insult), and it is nothing like those games and not even a strategy game like any of those were. I still think it can be a good game, although I don’t fully like the use of the Shining Force name.
I’m upset with Sega for not developing a second Skies of Arcadia game. They have an excellent franchise on their hands with that game, and it’s a disappointment the rumored sequel was apparently never made. A Skies-based MMORPG would work extremely well, but that’s off topic.
If you a big fan of the hack and slash genre, then Shining Force Neo might have some worth I guess, but I’d strongly recommend saving your money for some of the other games coming out this year. Phantasy Star Universe should be a decent action RPG, and The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess is looking amazing (battles on horse back should be fun). Also if you have a Gamecube, then Fire Emblem Path of Radiance is going to offer the strategy RPG fix that Shining Force fans wanted all along with SFN.
Anyway, all I’m saying is that there are some great alternatives coming out… so just don’t overlook them because Neo has the Shining Force name attached to it. I was going to get a Playstation 2 for the new Shining Force game, but I ended up getting a Cube for Fire Emblem instead. One lost sale here, Sega

Welcome to the forums btw.
I was annoyed with Shining Force Neo to the point where I just felt like giving up with Sega altogether. The game is an insult to fans who’ve been waiting for Shining Force IV for all these years, not to mention rubs salt in the wounds of those whom missed out on the final two scenarios of the Shining Force III trilogy. I mean, is Sega trying to piss off its fans?
If I could only choose one word to describe how I feel about this once great series now, it would be “frustrated”. Shining Force Neo is nothing more than Sega’s attempt at jumping on the Diablo-clone bandwagon. I don’t care how many people love this type of “RPG”; it wasn’t what fans have been waiting for.
Now we even have people at Sega describing Shining Force Neo as an improvement over the original turn-based strategy Shining Force games. What the hell is wrong with these people?
Whenever I think of how the older Shining Force games compare to Shining Force Neo, BioWare’s comparison of Baldur’s Gate with Diablo always springs to mind: “More than just hack ‘n’ slash”. Diablo-clones can be great… when they aren’t pretending to be RPGs.

That indeed is a rumor. It hasn’t been confirmed either way that they were working on a sequel to this marvelous game or that it had been cancelled. It’s just fan speculation. The closest confirmation that a sequel was in the works was an old interview with then Overworks member Noriyoshi Ohba who said that it was in consideration and a platform was being evaluated.
It’s because they’re Sycophants, Duke. Nothing more, nothing less.

Sega pissing their fans off, have become the metaphor of an abusive relationship between husband and wife. Deep down we all know we should leave the bastards but there’s something about them that we cannot walk out the door. Besides I’m so use to there mishaps i’ve become immune to it know like so many Segalites. E3 was their chance to turn things around and in a way they did but overall they didn’t. A LOT of games was missing from E3 Sega wise and i’m hoping that TGS or some other announcements will reveal the killer apps from Sega that I’ve been waiting for and everyone else.

Camelot is supposed to release Golden Sun for the Revolution and that will be the real sting against Sega if it turns out to be the game I’m thinking it will be in terms of gameplay and graphics.
Ah yes, then I see that my confusion lies in the content of that interview, which I thought confirmed the development of the sequel. Sorry.
And I still agree about Shining Force Neo. I’d much rather have a new game in the franchise’s tradition, but I still think that Neo has the potential to become a good game. That’s all. I wish Sega would think of porting the second two scenarios of SFIII to the DS or something, as I’d love to play them in English (and even own them, as I have not yet imported them).
There’s another thing people seem to have forgotten:
The doctrine of COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY!
It’s as valid in industry as it is in poiltics. All of these people are members of a single organisation - Sega. What sort of media impression do you think it would give if everyone fell to squabbling amongst themselves, laying blame and counter-blame, and making a very, very public fracas out of reactions to it?
It would invite wholesale ridicule. Magazine editors would be having wet dreams as they imagined gleefully pounding out naked hatchet-jobs revelling in how Sega was “imploding”, “self-destructing”, “in its death throes” and so forth, and you could guarantee that rival companies would sieze upon any sign of dissent in Sega’s ranks and rape it to death. A company needs to present a united, consistent front, otherwise it just invites an image of unbecoming and share-collpasing chaos and confusion.
Before you rip my throat out, Geoffrey, I’m not insinuating that these people saying that “Neo is better than previous Force games” are right, but it is understandable why they’re saying it and I sympathise with that.
But they’re facing riducle anyway because people know that they’re talking a load of BS. Say it’s a good game by all means but don’t DISS the previous installments. What type of message is that sending to people? That SRPG’s a joke? That ARPGs are the way to go? What happens when Camelot makes a killer app out of Golden Sun for home systems? The same people who you say will have “wet dreams” about slagging off Sega will use that irresponsible line from that employee from Sega and say that camelot has put sega to shame. Sega has already got a bad name with the press at the moment with the shape of their current games output, there is no point in using a game which many people outside of Sega see part of the syptom of of their lack of form and then say it’s better than a game that was part of sega’s great output in what many gamers consider the golden age of gaming.
United front? don’t make me laugh. Your insulting a lot of the hardcore supporters that has been with sega thick and thin and given ammunition to people like penny Arcade who despite what i or some people think seems to have a huge influence on many gamers out there.

It hasn’t occured to you that maybe, just maybe, there are people who have a different opinion to you? o_0
No need. The thing is about Sega interviews is that when they talk about a game openly and don’t really confirm it officially it’s usually the developer’s way of hinting that it’s being worked on. In the same interview he expressed his “wish” to create more american type games again like SHINOBI and a year later SHINOBI was previewed at E3. he’s covered himself because he said it was under consideration which means it could have been scrapped but he also said a system was being evaluated which means to me that a system was in made for this game and must have gone beyond a greenlight stage. Considering it takes three to four years to create a game, many of the rumoured and hinted sega games should make some sort of appearence this year like SHENMUE 3(Which was announced to be in development by AM2 back in 2001) AND ARCADIA. Sega hasn’t got a lot of killer apps for home system coming if you look at E3’s content so maybe they’re holding something back for TGS. If nothing is shown then it means that these games were not made.
Oh I remember reading an Interview with Overworks and they did say SOA II was in the pre-production stages, but they again they also said they were working on a Clockwork Night RPG and we seen nothing of that game, or the other games SEGA said they were working on a few years back (like that Hitmaker Horror game)
To promote and glorify Shining Force Neo as as improvement over the original turn-based strategy Shining Force games is simply wrong; I won’t stand for it, and neither should you. There’s no excuse for it whatsoever.
God I wish Sega would put someone who’s actually familiar with this series in charge of overseeing it. Then we might finally see Shining Force IV and the final two scenarios of Shining Force III in English. But of course, those types of games apparently don’t belong on home consoles according to the fool running the show at the moment.
Thankfully, the new Fire Emblem game, which will arrive in English no less, promises to be everything Shining Force Neo is not. I encourage all Sega fans here to boycott Shining Force Neo on principle alone, because if it sells well, it will simply encourage the men in suits at Sega to turn it into a series. Is that what we really want? Do we really want SF Neo to kill Shining Force for good? This series had so much potential, and Sega is letting it all go to waste.
