I figured what that might be the case… But I was annoyed that someone was accusing me of fanboyism when I went out of my way to be inoffensive…

Yeah I can understand that mate, point is well taken. Like I said, sorry.
You know, that “question” wasn’t necessarily addressed for anyone, and was thrown up there as a supplement to my commentary. But I’ll let you have that one.
Pfffff… hahaha. The brilliant friend system is about as meaningful as an AOL Instant Messenger buddy list. Sure, there are some features and such here and there, but until I can leave feedback on specific members who are acting like total dicks in the middle of a game and explain WHY I am leaving negative feedback (and there are a LOT of assholes on Xbox Live), or leave positive feedback for the players that are not total cocks, it’s all worthless.
You know what makes this, this, and especially this comic exceptionally funny to me? They’re an extremely accurate representation of the average Xbox Live player.
I like how glorious you make Xbox Live sound, but sorry… it’s not all its cracked up to be. Not until there is an extensive member feedback system.
Cool.
Heh… hehe… hahahaha. Because after all, the Virtual On series plays as fast as a standard 3D brawler like Tekken, Virtua Fighter, and Dead or Alive. It’s not a matter of “good coding”, it’s a matter of the limitations of the internet. Latency is an issue because of the number of server hops that have to be made to carry data from one spot to another. You clearly have no idea what I refer to, but feel free to hold steadfast on the idea that the internet is some happy, magical force that can only be fully utilized by the power of Sega’s game developers.
Uh… yay Outrun II? I have fun bouncing in between lanes on Russell Parkway and pedestrians that have no regard for common sense and run out in the middle of the street expecting you to stop, and I do it with the most impressive graphics and sound imaginable. It’s called real life in a car with an MP3 player. Screw racing games.
Uh… okay?
Halo 2 got pushed back. Fable has been pushed back. Guess we should cancel those too, right?
So why is being pushed back to next year, grounds for cancelling the project completely? One might think Microsoft doesn’t have confidence in their system, and realizes they can’t compete even remotely in other genres. Sounds to me like they’d rather stick to their own established popular genres (read: racing, fighting, and first person shooters) and no longer want to take chances.
And the GameCube is on par with the Xbox in worldwide units sold.
The defunct Dreamcast continues to outsell the Xbox in Japan. Beaten by a dead system; that’s pretty embarassing. Xbox numbers are going to dwindle even more, now that the only Japanese RPG/MMORPG they had is totally gone.
Better go re-read those sales figures… GameCube and PlayStation 2 have been infinitely more profitable for Sega than Xbox.
Only three of those games matter to me, and even if I cared about all of the ones mentioned, that’s a pretty pathetic lineup of games from Japan.
The reality is that the majority of the games that have interested me and kept me into gaming have been developed in Japan. Xbox offers the least in this department, so with Sega having taken their biggest projects to PlayStation 2, and Microsoft committing suicide in the Japanese market, I have zero interest.
Enjoy your Xbox for what it’s worth, I just simply won’t. Have fun dodging cars in Outrun II when it comes out. I’ll be taking the GameCube and PlayStation 2 RPGs and strategy games with their epic storylines and fully realized worlds instead. Where Xbox offers one (I’m talking about Fable, don’t expect good things from Sudeki), the competition offers much, MUCH more, and these are the kinds of games that keep me entertained. I wouldn’t have been nearly as huge a fan of Panzer Dragoon if it weren’t for Panzer Dragoon Saga. RPGs are what really define the systems for me. And that’s precisely why the Xbox is considered a piece of crap in Japan.
And if I want a romp through simplicity, I can play both Sonic AND Mario on the GameCube, the two mascot platformers I grew up with and enjoyed.
I think people have been reding the same previews. Why the hell do people talk about this game with such respect?
And stop beeing so cynical damnit!

Well you obviously haven?t played much of LIVE (no doubt just going on what you read). Because you can send feedback (both positive and negative), you can even complain about who many times people swear or scream if you want to. Falling that you can also go to M$ website to complain more, and in more detail. So please at least try and get you facts right.
The friends system is very nice. As soon as you switch your X-Box on, you can see what games your mates are playing, and even stuff like how long they been playing, how they are doing ect. All very handy.
VO II runs faster than VF (60 fps), and like with games like, VF IV split second timing makes all the diff. But that games showed even the deepest of fighters can work online, and that games was using a 33k Modem.
I?m pretty sure Team Ninja can do a good job, otherwise I doubt they would even make it otherwise, and just work on DOA 4.
WOW games get pushed back mate, it?s a fact of development life.
RE4 been delayed for ages as is Star Fox II, GT IV.
I seen Geist as now been pushed back too. Well I guess NCL and Sony should cancel all those projects (LOL).
Remind me again how long Eternal Darkness and Zelda TWW were in development for? Or what about the 3 Retro Studios projects NCL scrapped . NCL should have more confidence in the makers of Prime (LOL)
If you haven?t noticed NCL profits are down, and it missed it Cube sales targets by over a million. NCL can?t blame all that on the exchange rate.
It can thank it lucky stars it?s got the GBA, well until the PSP makes it out.
Budget price point, 3rd party dropping like fly?s, Capcom porting their games to the PS 2. My it?s the DC all over again ;).
Wow !!! so you can drive in real life, big deal so can most of us. Unless you?re some super talent bloke, who can choose from multi Ferrari?s and drive round the world in 10 min?s. I think you missed the point of OutRun II (which is all about fun) or most driving games. Or does your state have no rules, or speed limits.
Speaking of SEGA Spike Out, JSR, Out Run II, HOTD, Panzer Dragoon are some of the most respected SEGA games, which the X-Box can boost.
So the X-Box is getting it?s fair share of great games from SEGA. And Sonic is multi platform incase you hadn?t notice.
I?m enjoying beautiful and realized worlds now on my X-Box, be that the beautiful games like Moto GP II, ORTA, O.TO.GI II, FSW, Riddick, Rallipsort II, Steel Battalion. And look forward to playing Doom III, Sudeki, Halo II, Fable , Operation Flashpoint soon.
Though by the same token I can?t wait to play Prime II, and the f-ing incredible looking RE 4, which as stunning environments .
And before you say Doom III is coming on the PC ect, I don?t want to upgrade my PC again to play it.
So I?ll play it on my bog standard X-Box. Which even with the price of a mod chip is a lot cheaper than a 64bit Athlon, with a decent graphics card, mem, HD ect ;)
See, I knew you wouldn’t get what I’m talking about.
I’m talking about a user feedback system on which I can read OTHER people’s complaints or praise on each specific Xbox Live subscriber. If I check another Xbox Live subscriber’s stats, I should also see user feedback on them. If another player is a total dick, I’m going to leave feedback on them on their account so other players know NOT to play with them.
THAT is what I am talking about. Until something like that happens, people will continue acting like total cocks on Xbox Live, because there’s nothing currently in place to properly keep them in line.
I /HAVE/ an Xbox Live account. My Live SN is Paiku, in fact. I don’t need you to assume that I don’t have one and further assume I have never used Xbox Live. Piss off.
What the hell does a game’s framerate have to do with anything? PlayStation 2 Final Fantasy XI runs at about 15 FPS on average, and my PC version runs it at about twice that. So that suddenly makes my version of the game run that much better online?
Get a freaking clue.
Never said they couldn’t do a good job, since I know they can. Again, you don’t seem to understand the concept behind the internet and how it works. Unless you are running a LAN game, you are going to have latency issues, and the latency increases based on the distance between clients. If I’m in Japan and you’re in the UK and we try to play an online game together, there is going to be at least a half a second of delay. Nothing to do with bad programming, and everything to do with the number of server hops data has to go through to get from my client to yours.
Which justifies TFLO’s cancellation, how?
I don’t see Nintendo telling them to scrap the games.
Nintendo isn’t the one cancelling projects 80% done and under development for three years. Microsoft is.
Nintendo isn’t the one cancelling projects 80% done and under development for three years. Microsoft is.
And Microsoft hasn’t made jack for profits on Xbox due to costs of setting up Xbox Live and losing a lot of money on the console itself, what are you getting at?
And Microsoft can thank its lucky stars that it has Office, Windows, and all the other products to keep it afloat.
Except for the games I get to play on GameCube that actually matter.
I guess you missed out on the part where I don’t think racing games are even remotely fun.
Only three of those qualify. Even then, there is an unlikely future for two of them to continue due to lackluster sales.
Yep, and I didn’t bother with the latest Sonic incarnation because I read that it’s crap. I simply said if I wanted a romp in simplicity, I’d pick one up.
Riddick is going PS2. Moto illicits a big yawn. Sudeki, Halo 2, and Fable aren’t even out. And don’t count Sudeki as anything special just yet, you may yet be surprised that it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be.
To be honest, Resident Evil 4 doesn’t interest me one bit.
[quote]And before you say Doom III is coming on the PC ect, I don?t want to upgrade my PC again to play it.

It’s all good. If I get Doom 3 for PC, I’ll have the superior version.
You never going to read people complaints, otherwise some people might be put off complain in the 1st place.
If you get over 100 or so complaints, M$ email you with a warning. And if you continue you might loss your account. It?s not a full proof system, but it?s better than anything on the PS 2, or most PC serves
Yes there are twts on LIVE, but there a great many great gamers, and if someone being a twt you can call a vote and so on, to kick them off.
And if they are swearing a lot you can mute them, whilst still listing to others. Again it?s not full proof, but it decent.
You?re right about the timing issues with online games. But Top Spin shows it can be done. As Timing in Tennis is just as important, as the timing issues with most 3D fighters.
Mate M$ canceled 2 games that were well into development get over it It happens.
NCL do cancel games well into development. Or have you forgot about the Jungle Leo and Mother 3 (In development for over 4 years) games that were due for the N64 ?. Not to talk about Retro studios Rally game.
You talked about me missing the point, You missed the point with Cube sales.
M$ aren?t the ones losing market share, or 3rd party?s. The Cube is, and that?s all going to count when the Cube II, X-Box it make it out.
My we?ve been reading again, have we. How about trying Sonic Heroes for your self . It?s not half bad. And the Sonic Adv ports on the Cube are cr8p.
Sonic Adv is a shambles, part II isn?t much better. So I?ll stick with the superior DC versions if I were you.
So what if Riddick is coming out for the PS2, like you said with the Cube ports.
I like to play the better looking versions, or do you mean to tell me Riddick will look and sound better on the PS 2 .
Don?t tell me you play the PC version. Fine if you can afford upgrading every year, but there again, you moan about the price of a mod chip
[quote]If you haven’t noticed NCL profits are down, and it missed it Cube sales targets by over a million. NCL can’t blame all that on the exchange rate.

I doubt the PSP will have quite the impact that people expect it to… I’ll go into more detail if anyone is curious why.
Also, the GCN itself is profitable. They aren’t losing money on the GCN. Also, can someone actually pull up sales charts for Europe? I doubt it. Sales for systems in Europe are so scattered that it is difficult to get a feel for just how much better the X-Box is selling. Last I had checked, best estimates placed it at about 50% more X-Box’s sold than GCN’s (eg. 150 X-Box’s sold for every 100 GCN’s).
Neither company is going to suddenly announce they are going to pull out. M$ regarded this generation as getting their foot in the door… I don’t think they planned on making a huge profit. I think that next generation is when they plan on making this thing profitable for them… And Nintendo has no reason to pull out when they are making hundreds of millions of dollars.
Also, part of the reason Retro Studios had projects cancelled was because many, many people were laid off. Maybe you don’t know this, but MP was delayed quite a bit and there were layoffs. People were a bit worried about Retro Studios. Now, thanks to layoffs, they are a smaller company (if you can call them that) than they once were. They can’t afford to have 3 or 4 projects going at once.
Yes Mumei posted something very important. This IS Microsoft’s first console.
Edit: Nevermind. This is a serious waste of my time.
I could write about games companies failing to deliver the games I want until the end of time, but instead of complaining in vain, I simply look elsewhere for my latest gaming fix now.
Sega’s refusal to localise the Shining Force III trilogy ensured that I would never keep my eye on another Japanese RPG while clinging to any hope of seeing it in English. Japanese developers who refuse to localise the RPGs I love can go to hell as far as I’m concerned. Of course, the blame for the Shining Force III debacle falls squarely on Sega of America’s shoulders (Sega of Europle would’ve translated the game). Also, if Bernie Stolar hadn’t antagonized Working Designs they may have been tempted to translate Dragon Force 2. I was overjoyed when Isao Okawa finally fired that moron.
I was hoping to own a console with a wide variety of great RPGs that wasn’t made by Sony; unfortunately, the Xbox’s current line up of RPGs leaves much to be desired. Knights of the Old Republic was great and goes to show that a western RPG developer can create something capable of surpassing the quality of any Japanese-born RPG. Jade Empire sounds promising, but Microsoft needs more RPG developers on its side if it even hopes to establish a console in Japan. I’m not actually sure if western RPGs are even welcomed in Japan with the same enthusiasm as home-grown ones.
I’m so proud of myself ^_^. I posted something important. w00t!
Seriously, the X-Box is a disappointment as far as profitability goes. But as far as creating a group of loyal customers, getting developers on board, and setting up for the next generation, I’d say it is a success.
It’s not a dissappointement for me cause my expectations weren’t very high.I just wanted to play my copy of Orta that I already had for a month in my possesion…
It still is the best console on the market IMO.I admit tho I’m a bit dissappointed at the lesser number of japanese games (specially RPGs) but that is to be expected right?
Well reread what I wrote… I didn’t say that it was bad or anything, just that as far as being profitable goes, it was a disappointment. But that was expected from the beginning.
To each his own, I suppose ^^. I’m not really sure which system I think is the best >>…
Wizardry is far more popular in Japan than it ever was in the US, so they do have a taste for Western RPGs, though I have a feeling it may be a selective one. If all the Xbox has are Bioware titles though I doubt that’s enough for an RPG-mad country even if they like them. It will be interesting to see how Lord of the Rings: The Third Age will do over there considering it’s a Western property they already like and, from my understanding, one of the people who worked on Final Fantasy VII is also on the project. LotR: The Third Age plays just like a Japanese-style console RPG only the artwork is Western.
I don’t think the Japanese developers even know how to sell a game in Japan =/. I can’t think of any new franchises that sell well; just the old staples =/.
I didn’t said you said that either
I just was pointing out that the only reason that really attached me to the XBox was the fact that I was about to play Orta.
Eh hem…
PDO wouldn’t have sold better on GC because it plays slightly like Starfox. The two games even look different.
Panzer Dragoon has always been a hardcore franchise, not exactly known for high sales. Has PD ever sold over 100,000?
Those numbers aren’t bad considering Xbox’s audience, the type of game PDO was, and it’s small fanbase.
It should be noted that PDO saw quite a few ads, especially on Comedy Central.

Yeah you’re spot on, but SAGA sold over 150,000 in Jp alone
Yes, but thats still not really all that much. Keep in mind Saturn was doing pretty well for itself in Japan in 1998, and PDS was an RPG, not a rail shooter. RPGs are a lot more popular than shooters in Japan, and Orta was a shooter.
