Iva’s story is not that bad, a bit brief but I like side stories like that.
I thought about this, and it strikes me that PD1, PD2 and PDO all have far too much action / gameplay and not enought plot, whereas PDS might actually have a decent balance of plot and action (although admittedly all the RPG exploring would have to be cut out). However, PDS would almost certainly have to be massively abridged / edited (like LOTR) to make it into a coherent movie anyway, which would make it contradict the story we know. So yeah, I agree that an all-new story would be the best bet for a PD film (though I’m sure the chances of us ever seeing such a thing are pretty minimal).
i always wanted to be in a streets of rage movie… the soundtrack would be awesome.
there’s too much gameplay stuff in panzer dragoon to be able to convey that in a movie. i think it would have to just be a sidestory written in the panzer world. although it would have to be written with all the mystery and plenty of dragon laser action or else we will murder the author… AM I RIGHT!?
Too much gameplay in PDS? Atleast it’s gameplay that can be conveyed in a movie, it’s all about exploration, and action and reaction to circumstances, and then a ton of dialogue and cool story sequences along with a load of battles…
But Streets of Rage?? What would the movie be about? SOR is the one that has too much “gameplay” imo, it’s all about beating ppl up, beating ppl up and beating ppl up and maybe a couple story bits… It would end up like Street Fighter the movie or something, Street Fighter is all about beating ppl up too (in a diff way granted)
I’d only like a PD movie to be CG if the creators were able to make the characters show REAL emotional without exagerated reactions in their faces but like real ppl. I’d really love a LOTR style movie with real actors as well though as long as they found actors that trully fit the characters (like LOTR did).
I could be generic_person_dieing_a_lot_from_ship_fire_dragon_attacks_explosions_etc
that’s exactly it SoR would primarily be action movie, it had very little story to be told so the conversion would be easy. PD has a very complex story with so many facets and so much history that would need to be explained. if you were to get all of that out, you would not have much time for the current story and the action.
which is why i said that it would need to be something that gave a hint as to PD, gave the audience the flavor, and just enough information to understand it. then set in on a self contained story that perhaps made special references to the aspects that were not covered (for the fans) but not enough to leave the rest of the audience without any idea of what is going on.
Well I have to disagree, if every LOTR book fits in one movie then so can PD. And if you think it can’t, then, who cares, make that a trilogy too
And I wouldnt find a movie without much story enjoyable really, it would be just another silly action movie except it would have the Streets of Rage name, that wouldn’t make me feel anything more than what every other action movie has done…
Oh and, I’m aware of all the changes and shortcomings of the lotr movies, still noone can deny that they were an excellent effort and an amazing trilogy of movies regardless
PS:Hey, I got the lucky 7
I think part of problem any movie production would have to talk is that typically there is only one person on a dragon and it’s very difficult to build a good movie when there is only one central character on screen the majority of the time. All the riders of the PD games spend most of their time flying, and solo-flying isn’t going to last beyond two or three good action scenes and maybe a time-elapsed travel scene or two. All the other characters in the games are either opponents or fall by the wayside by the time the final confrontation arrives (because only the rider and the dragon can really take out whatever’s coming at the end). For a shooter it’s fine to have very little in the way of a supporting cast, but it’s much rarer to see that in a movie. The main protagonist of a movie needs someone to interact with and not just every once in a while during after “clearing an area.”
PDS would work the best for that reason, though if anyone did make a Panzer movie, I would hope for an original story since adaptations inevitably require changes.
Tom Hanks did it, a PD character can do it too
And btw, the things you said needed for a movie were what most ppl believed as needed for console RPGs as well.“What, no party?!” PD proved them wrong, no? And most action movies have one main protagonist as well.
I’m sure exploration of various ruins scenes and such would be very good fillers inbetween the “meat” of the story with the interaction with other characters. The environment is interesting and mysterious enough to make up for the lack of other characters. And there could always be points where the character is not alone on his dragon. It happened where it was needed in Saga too, with Gash and Aze, it could happen more in the movie. Plus the main character could always talk to his dragon, the dragon can’t talk back but still lot’s of types of scenes could work just well
Plus it could focus a lot on other characters as well. Like show us more of what the Seekers and the Empire are doing since they are in conflict with each other, like in LOTR we had the battles and such going on inbetween what each part of the fellowship was doing. Also focus more on the parts where the character is in cities/caravans/villages, show us how the character sees those groups of ppl feel the effects of the “evil” empire and such for another emotional war-epic esque type of scene.
I don’t think the PD universe is lacking in anything for it to become a good movie.
Most movies made from games aren’t good. Hollywood ruins it to make it how they want it, rather than making it how it was originally intended to be.
Ok, stuff several replies into one post time.
Azel is hot. There is no debating that. Look at her figure, for heaven’s sake. Noami Campbell would kill to look that good.
Snowie, however, should not play Azel, because Snowie looks NOTHING like Azel. Unfortunately, neither does Atolm. I don’t know about anyone else (pictures please!).
The Resident Evil movie sucked a cock. I apologise for the language but I hated that movie, it was just a complete mess, and I loathed it all the more because I had waited years for it, having originally read about it in SSM. If it had been an on-screen carbon copy of RE1, then I would have loved it.
Streets of Rage would also suck. Plus, everyone would wonder what series it was based on (casual gamers)!
And in PDS - The movie, I’d be…Baicah.
The next one is supposed to be a copy of RE3 only with the evil alice in it
At least we’ll have Carlos
such a compelling argument, how i coud not have seen that before escapes me. i thank you deeply for setting me straight
i think it’s inevitable for videogame -> movie coversions to suck, look at what it’s brought us… mario brothers… tomb raider… house of the dead… i just thought that streets of rage would suffer the least damage in such a conversion. and i think it would also be a very fun movie to see, not intellectually stimulating, but certainly enjoyable… as long as i was in it.
there are no black people in panzer dragoon, so i’d have to wear a big get-up and play a sandworm
The examples you cite are quite interesting:
Mario Bros - There was no way to make a movie of this correctly. AT ALL. The storyline of the game involves giant turtles, plumbers who jump about and spit fireballs and a princess in despair. Back in the early 90’s, that wasn’t going to happen. The original Mario cartoon OWNED. They should have just done an extension from there.
Tomb Raider - Tomb Raider 1 wasn’t bad, in my opinion. Could have been better.
House of the Dead - Who the HELL gave the rights for this to the guy who’s doing it? He’s turned a game series with 1,001 story possibilities into a TEEN SLASHER! ARGH!!! Get a frickin clue!!!
i think house of the dead is great (let me make it quite clear i mean the game). it’s just one of the oddest/funniest games out there. and while i would have enjoyed watching 2 hours of someone play through house of the dead 1, 2, and 3 i knew the movie makers would bastardize the already bastardized storyline
in the end we were left with zombies at a rave, 360 degree rotating cameras, and dwight yoakam
…and boobs. Really big boobs!
Let’s not forget, of course, that one decent game -> movie translation has happened; the mighty Mortal Kombat. Just don’t mention Annhiliation.

Hmmm… Zastava looked black to me. Or maybe the style of the mask makes me think that.
We can always dye him green… Or make the wormriders be black instead of green so that it will be something more publically acceptable and wont make ppl think they are watching a movie about martians (little green men :P)
That movie really sucks & I say it should be trashed, anybody who thinks that putting some game excerpts into a movie doesn’t really have a talent in doing a movie. I’m really disappointed, I think my money was wasted after I’ve watched it, maybe CG animation will be good for me like the MATRIX’s FLIGHT OF THE OSIRIS
