NiGHTS 2

Tell me the xbox360 thingy at the end is definately a sign that this is coming!

Dang, that had me all excited but a quick google suggests it’s fake (joystiq.com/2006/12/16/fake- … 2-trailer/)

I’m actually oddly relieved that it’s fake. XD NiGHTS was a stroke of genius, it’d be near impossible to improve anything on it other than the graphics.

You have to admit though, that trailer was pretty well made.

Oh yeah, it might’ve fooled me if I didn’t have prior knowledge of it’s fakeness.

…like me :’(

yeah i kinda knew it was fake i just didn’t want to dash peoples hopes straight away…

i think the trailer is VERY well made, and looks quite believable

however i don’t want a NiGHTS 2… that said tho i would buy whatever console it came out on straight away with no hesitation.

I’m sure that a new Nights game would fit wonderfully on the Nintendo Wii…

I definately need to play SOME game on the Wii…I don’t quite picture it as beeing confortable/fun…at least not on the tv sets I’m used to…(which are small…)

I sure hope that an hypothetical NIGHTS 2 comes out either for PS3 or (/hopefully for) X360.I think a Nights game needs a gamepad…

You do need to play some game, or at the very least watch videos of people playing the games (proper games, not just Wii Sports), because frankly there’s just no genre that couldn’t work with a Wii control scheme so doubting a simple game with simple controls like Nights could be done on it shows you know very little of what the system is like.

If a complex game like Zelda works like a charm and according to most people, press and users, has the preffered method of control on the Wii even compared to the standard pad of the GameCube version, then a minimalistic game like Nights would have no problems at all.

You didn’t understand what I meant.I wasn’t implying that the Wiimote isn’t able to do complex stuff or anything lke that.I just can’t possibly picture me plaing 2 hours straight with my arm going all over the place nor do I think it’s that fun.

You know, you could just use the nunchacku for analogue movement. That could work perfectly well, use the analogue stick on the nunchaku to move NiGHTS and press A on the Wiimote for dashing. Simple.

hmmm its jsut that, say if i come home after a long day, sometime i wanna just dump myself on the sofa/bed with a pad in my hand, and play a game.
the idea of all the games needing some sort of… extra movement doesn’t really encourage me to buy a wii right now. maybe if developers start to get bored and decide to release normal games, then maybe i will

haha and that guy divingout from behind his sofa when playing metroid prime (i think) cracks me up all the time XD

i don’t want NiGHTS 2 =(
cmon mr naka, stay strong!

I would think that comments about flailing arms around and getting tired would be an anti-Nintendo exclusive trend by now but I guess it has sadly gone much deeper than that and affected how other gamers feel about it.

Please watch a video or two and understand that of course there are games where exagerated movements are the preffered control method, since how else can you enjoy a tennis game for example, but there are also games that require minimal movement and still provide a grand new experience, such as Call of Duty on the Wii which according to most reviews, while it lacks in the visuals department, it makes up for it with providing a more visceral experience with the new control scheme (ok, ignore the QTE like sections, that’s not what the main game is like).

When I say videos I mean of gamers or the press, not the commercials.

And if you think that because you will move your wrist a little you will get tired or be unable to relax, well, how can you relax on PC while constantly moving your mouse around in a FPS, or playing a flight sim with a joystick? Those also require movement not too disimilar to what such games would be like on the Wii…

Anyway, for Nights, I think the remote alone could be used for the control method with a combination of the d-pad, simple button presses for the control of the kids, with gentle tilts of any direction to control flight and acrobatics as Nights.

Perhaps when tilting it you would control Nights’ direction/pitch/whatever while when you also held down the second button, it would enable acrobatics control with the tilts changing to affect Nights in that way… Something like that.

I guess controls would depend on what the sequel was going to be. Ie, it could be identical to the original, simply with new content (levels etc), or they could attempt to make it free flight, something that would make it even more suitable for the Wii, but could potentially damage the game. Of course, a sequel of any kind can damage the game anyway.

sign me up for NIGHTS 2 on the Wii. It sounds like a great idea.

Well I actually wasn’t talking about wrists but more elbows and shoulders. When you are playing with your mouse our joystick you can rest your arms on the table. But with Wii there is no table and you have to levitate your arms for extended periods of time.

Well, not necessarily…

Once again, it depends on the game, and that particular comic is only talking about Wii Sports. Not every game is meant to be played that way and I stated that in my previous posts as I specifically said that a tennis game couldn’t be enjoyed in any other way (and that’s the point the comic makes as well). There are other games however which according to the press are fun and intuitive to play with your arms resting on your legs as usual.

You can also check out this Metal Slug Anthology video which shows the different available control schemes as an example. To further clarify, I’m not saying any/all of these control schemes would be good for a Nights game, or are even good as they are for this game. It’s just food for thought, that is all.

Apparently SoE loved the video and they’ve sent it to SoJ and, therefore, Sonic Team. I don’t know of Yuji Naka’s status right now but he is, by no means, the only strong designer on Sonic Team.

NiGHTS 2 coming out is, basically, fate. Even in excess of 10 years of the first one with no sign of a sequel, fan support is still extraordinarily high. Sega and Sonic Team would be absolute fools not to release a sequel, especially with the HIDEOUS reviews that Sonic 360 got and the declining image of Sonic Team as a developer. NiGHTS 2, or even another franchise like Burning Rangers 2, is probably the most surefire way of Sonic Team regaining respect after their current run of sub-par releases.

And judging from my response as I noticed NiGHTS dip his arm into the water during that trailer, the series still has the magic it needs to make it big, even if it takes as long as PDS did to make.
