Metaball

Metaball (click for info and screens):
Interesting mix of games like Sonic The Hedgehog and Marble Madness with its own unique feel and gameplay. One of the few creations I’d place right up there with titles such as Nights Into Dreams for its excellent concept and execution. A MUST download for every Unreal Tournament 2004 owner (Yes, it’s an UT2004 mod). For more information about the actual gameplay click here.
Ofcourse, playing it is nothin like reading about it

For a list of recent (only recent, not older) UT2004 mod releases click here (edit: That post is not updated anymore so if you want to remain current about news and releases, keep checking the website in my sig).
From the Mods on that page I’d especially recomment Metaball, Damnation, Alien Swarm, Red Orchestra, Frag.Ops, Air Buccaneers, Deathball, Troopers, Eden Eclipse, Piddly’s Chance, Clone Bandits.
Naturally, I haven’t tried all of them so just visit every working website and try out what you find interesting for yourself. It’s free anyway

I love modable games

Oh well… It’s really your loss if you are able to check it out in any way (either going to a friend that has UT2004 or borrowing it or…) and yet won’t bother to for whatever reason…

Here’s a little preview thingie of Metaball which I wrote for a website (the one in my sig) just in case it entices people some more:

"Metaball is a unique single player mod that uses Karma physics to the fullest in order to provide a fun and challenging experience from start to finish!

Your goal is to save the Tinies (small fluffy creatures) that have been turned to stone by an evil wizard. Surprisingly, you do that by transforming into different types of balls - each with different properties and abilities - in order to manage and complete various tasks, collect SunIcons and rescue imprisoned Tinies!

You start in a HUB castle level which you explore and find teleportation pads that in turn let you access various areas, each presenting one of three different challenge categories:

Dexterity - This will put your ball controlling skills to the test as you need to collect SunIcons reaching the trickiest of places similar to a 3D platform game.

Speed - Again, you need to collect SunIcons, but this time you race around a track using speed and physics to your advantage in order to reach all of them. Imagine it similar to a 3D Sonic game except you - ofcourse - control a ball.

Evacuation - Similar to Dexterity but here instead of SunIcons you need to find several imprisoned Tinies. Reaching them is tough but it’s only half of it since you then need to drag them back to the exit of the level, something that hinders your agility and makes it even trickier!

But that’s not all of it! Each area presents its own challenges and even different play styles. For example, in some levels the camera gives you a fixed side view, essentially turning the gameplay into something akin to the good old side scrolling platform games like Super Mario or the more recent Klonoa!

So, what do you think, will you manage to save all the Tinies or will the evil wizard have his way with their realm?"

It’s Pikmin meets Marble Madness. l33t.

Looks interesting. When I finally get a copy of UT 2004 for myself I’ll give it a shot.

Fun games suck.Well…most of them…

Eh?
