Games that you're looking forward to in 2008

Mmm, I’m with you about the characters. Although I must say, I was never very fond of Amy Rose. In this modern age, the Sonic universe needs a strong female character like Princess Sally from the comics and cartoon.

Hopefully Bioware will introduce some better story telling into the series with Sonic Chronicles.

I think Eggman was his name in the original Japanese games, so when Sonic Adventure came out they changed his name from Robotnik to Eggman for the English version to keep the two versions consistent. He’s still calls himself Robotnik near the start of Sonic Adventure though, interestingly.

Silent Hill 2 and Ico beg to differ. (well they aren’t 100% about atmosphere but their gameplay is pretty basic).[/quote]

Touche sir! To rephrase my statement so I don’t sound as stupid: I guess I meant all we’ve seen from Alan Wake thus far has pretty much been atmosphere, to me at least that’s not enough to be super excited about it at this point. Some more info on the story would be nice, it would give the atmosphere a backdrop to work with in my eyes.

Yeah I see what you mean. A great deal of the hype, I think, is due to the name of the developer and their previous work (most notably Max Payne). I must say I loved the setting (Twin Peaks-ish) and I have some faith in Remedy after what they did. The premise of the game seems to be in the right hands I think.

Still stickin with Dragon Age. And that’s about it.

I am kind of out of the loop with games nowadays.
Sonic Chronicles is the game I am most excited about
Sonic Unleashed is next, it shall decide if Sonic has the ability to survive in 3D.

That is all I can think of!

It is perhaps worth noting that I had a similarly sized collection. However I recently took it upon myself to catch up and now have a COMPLETE collection of Sonic, including specials and spin-offs. Is that something to be proud or ashamed of? I do not care!

Well, the main reason I stopped collecting them was that the quality of the stories started to decline in my opinion. Also, the artist after Spaz wasn’t that great, so I was disheartened.

I’m also waiting for The Witcher’s Enhanced Edition and I probably forget a few more games here and there. Mostly because I’m waiting for my new GPU to arrive so I can actually start playing some of the games I missed the last year, being in the army and all. Games like Bioshock, Sins of a Solar Empire and Gears of War but also multi player titles I tried out and enjoyed like Call of Duty 4 and Team Fortress 2 (this actually runs on my old card but without the toon shader it looks bad). I’ll probably try out several other titles that seemed interesting the last months. World in Conflict, etc.

What’s funny is that like 70% of my 2007 games are still not released (Dragon Age, Disciples III, Spore etc) or ended up disapointing (Hellgate, UT3, Quake Wars, etc) or just not my thing (Crysis, Endless Ocean, Overlord, etc).

I’ve also changed mind about a few of the still unreleased games, for example Dragon Age as I’ve lost faith in Bioware’s ability to offer an enjoyable pure RPG, which is why I don’t include them in this list. Of course, it’s up to the developers to change my mind

Oh well, I still got Eschalon: Book I, Aquaria, Bioshock, Portal, Team Fortress 2, the latest Mount & Blade version, and they were all worth it (or so it seems, I have yet to play Bioshock but while it’s not the classic I hoped for it sounds like it ended up okay).

Most of them have been already mentioned apart from (I think) the Homestar Runner Wii ware game that’s coming.

Not over the moon wetting my self over it, but it’ll be a laugh. And ya gotta love the Strong Bad.

Oh yeah. Forgot about Spore and Borderlands. Still waiting on those too. But mostly just Dragon Age.

Sins of a Solar Empire is soooooooo many levels of farggin awesome! Galactic Civs can go hang itself!

I’d have to go with Al3x on King’s Bounty, that game alone could be what drives me to install Windows once more, much like Company of Heroes did before.

If you haven’t read anything about the game, check out the video link Al3x provided then read the preview on Gamespot. Sounds awesome.

I’d also like to add three games I forgot to mention:

GRID (360)
Midnight Club: L.A. (360)
**Alone in the Dark **(360)

I don’t know how into racing games some of you are, but the whole episodic structure and heavy focus on physics and creativity using your environment may make Alone in the Dark a surprisingly good game come this summer.

Alone in the Dark is a racing game!? :stuck_out_tongue:

The game I am most looking forward to is the english translation of Ryu ga Gotoku 2 and Banjo Kazooie 3. :anjou_love:

I borrowed a Yakuza from my cousin and I stopped playing 5 minutes in. I play the Xbox version of Shenmue 2, but for someone reason I’m starting to refuse to play games with translated voice overs. You just don’t get the same experience.

Reading that again, it does sound a bit dumb.

But I obviously meant that if you disregard the first two games on the list, give Alone in the Dark a shot.

I rarely read my posts before submitting them.

That depends how good the original voice overs are, most Japanese voice overs aren’t all that great…

They just sound better by default because we don’t understand what they are saying.

Yakuza 2, isn’t getting dubbed. It’s being subtitled.

Yep, not understanding helps. But I reckon every single game should get the subtitle treatment.

I saw a video for Banjo Kazooie 3 today, it looks terrible >< it’s all very vehicle based, which is fine, but I don’t think it’ll keep the same amount of fun that the previous 2 had.

And I didn’t see Ungo Bungo (sp?) anywhere so :<

Looks fine to me:

Mumbo Jumbo is the builder of the vehicles.

Oh is he, cool =P

Ungo Bungo…is that what the mask is called in Crash? Bah almost the same.

Well I guess we’ll see. Just seems like a big mini game to me!
