Favorite PD Shooter

Just wondering what everyone’s favorite PD game is. Saga isn’t on the poll because I already know it’s everyone’s favorite.

I like Orta the most.

Zwei here but PD1 was also breathtaking.

Orta followed by Zwei. Honestly, I liked the story given in Panzer 1, but the game got dull after a play through or two. Zwei was a much better game.

Zwei here, it might have been too easy but it never got boring for me, I could glide through the levels again and again and again with the feeling of joy and awe always present…
Orta barely did that for me the first time even sadly…I think they gave too much emphasis on the action and keeping you occupied with the controls making you not so able to enjoy just flying through the world like I did in Zwei since in Orta you have more things to worry about (morphing, circling the bosses etc…)
I also don’t think the level design was as interesting either, sure the graphics were 1000 times better but that just isn’t enough for me…same goes for enemy patterns.

Zwei… Actually I think Zwei was the first Panzer I played, brings back memories.

I remember my dad playing Zwei, and Saga too. Panzer blood runs in this family ^^; He might have actually frequented the Die Welt boards too, I dunno. Gotta check with him on that.

Zwei - its simply the best.

Orta: WAY better gameplay/level designs/boss battles, better story and better artwork/designs

I’ve finally bought Orta!!!

I’m on the verge of completing it twice now and I’m hoping to unlock 100% of Pandora’s Box.

My only gripe is that I wish the game would give you more time to look around and admire the beauty of some of the landscapes, especially those in the Altered Genos and Eternal Glacies episodes.

Overall, very addictive gameplay, stunning graphics, great storyline (I actually understood this story compared to PD1/2’s)…definitely worth the ?14.99 I paid for it

I’m relieved I can finally start reading topics in this forum without fear of spoilers

Just wondering: has anyone yet to buy this fantastic game? Don’t leave it 'til 10 months later like I did, geddit now!

(I voted for Orta btw

I think I’ll vote for Orta too, although I’m cautious since it’s been so long since I’ve played Zwei.

Zwei.

…what? You didn’t think I’d vote for Orta did you?

For all n00bs just joining us, Shadow has a slight dislike for Orta

I think I’m regretful.I should have voted for PD1…

Slight. Slight.

I think Panzer Dragoon Orta is the best shooter overall, but Zwei comes a close second.

Of course Panzer Dragoon Saga beats them all

I figured Zwei would be the general consensus for the best shooter. I think the gameplay in Zwei is better - the actual fighting of enemies and pace at which they appear. Zwei has better music too…

The only thing Orta has over Zwei is diversity.

Zwei has a better dragon morphing system in my opinion. Basing it on the players skill rather then “can i find the secret level up thingy floating in the level.”

Doesn’t that thing floating in the level depend on how many enemies you’ve killed? Or enemies of the same type. I always assumed it was, although I have the Japanese version so I haven’t been able to read the manual to check.

They’re all great games in my opinion, each with their own charms, strengths, and weaknesses. Orta excelled in story, boss battle system, length, morphing etc while Zwei had a really good atmosphere and music (you’ve got to love the dramatic theme of the episode 3 boss and fast episode 4 music). The first game’s opening still sticks in the minds of many, and the gameplay itself started it all.

However it’s not the “upgrade” morphing that provides more diversity since that exists in Zwei as well like you said yourself…even tho a little a different.
What does provide more diversity is the real time in-game morphing that allows you to adopt to the playing style you want or to what the circumstances demand in order to get through a situation in the best way, as well as the circling of the bosses in Saga style…(even tho I found some bosses boring…like that weird statue thing on that huge imperial ship)
I still prefer Zwei for the reasons I wrote on my first post here though.

And as far as story is concerned I still prefer Zwei since even tho Orta has more of it I don’t find the way it’s told as interesting and actually I think it’s only interesting to us because of Saga rather than a really extra ordinary effort from the PD Orta team. Let’s face it, who couldn’t provide an interesting plot for the daughter of Azel and Edge if they put a decent effort into it?
Zwei managed to capture me in it’s world much more even with so much less actual plot.

I enjoyed Orta’s story. From the start it was one big mystery. Why was she captured? Why is everyone after her? Who is this mysterious Abadd character? It was great to find out more answers along the way, while at the end we’re still left with many questions. The Orta-being-a-half-drone twist was well done too.

Of course, as a stand alone story without Saga to reinforce it, I can see why some people might not like Orta’s story.
