I expect that the graphical differences between the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 won’t be too great, considering there will only be 6 months between them (unlike the Dreamcast which was 16 months older than the PS2, yet was still in a good position to compete against it).
I still have no intention of buying any of the next generation consoles until they’ve built up a decent library of games. We can expect to see Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII (13), and Resident Evil 5 on the Playstation 3 sooner or later, however. It’s going to take more than Halo 3 to compete against a line up like that.
That goes for me too. I’m not rushing out to buy a game system until it’s retail price has gone down.
To tell you the truth judging how this console war is going I think all the game systems in the next generation are all in trouble to really succeed because the public is n’t perpepared to pay for an expensive system and their games anymore. the Xbox and NGC only started to really take off when they had several price cuts in it’s first year. But that was in the UK so i can’t speak for USA and Japan.

Microsoft is making some good moves in the east.If you can get some posh/mainstream RPG you can get it all.I honestly don’t care if Sony “wins the batt?e agehn”.In the end money issues don’t concern me because I’m not the company making the big bucks or losing them.

Incidentally, Al3x IS a Sega fan, and knows why Sega fans are hostile to Sony. He is commenting that some Sega fans are no different from the Sony fans of the 32 bit era talking trash about the Saturn.
Or is it to do with the fact that a Sega fan has felt under seige in defending
Sega to smoes like you who come on Sega related sites and bash them all the time? Sega supposed to be so bad yet you frequent Sega related sites.
It’s one thing being flamed by Sony or Nintendo fans but when it comes from your own it’s even a bitter pill to swallow.
Umm… When exactly did I flame you? It’s the opposite that has been happening in this whole discussion simply because I’ve been rational enough to not just take any random point against Sony and laugh with it but instead logically challenge it with valid arguments…That have still to be challenged…
I have taken all your hostility and said thanks for it too. The only relatively hostile comment I made was in my last reply and even that was a lot milder than your attitude and was also mostly constructive critisism with a grain of frustration included. However, I thinkfrustration’s pretty natural after having multiple of my posts mutilated and altered to one’s own liking in the so called “replies” that argued absolutely none of my points but instead flamed me as some NGC basher (???) and Sony, PS2 & PSU *(we barely know anything about the game! And it’s a Sega game lol?) *lover out of nowhere…
Also, when exactly did I bash Sega?
Seriously, are you even having a conversation with people here or is this a random monologue we’ve been reading through? Most of your replies have had almost nothing to do with the content of my posts.
I’m holding my hands up for this topic. Obviously, there is no way that Goonboy will convince me that I am wrong, and likewise for me proving him wrong. We’re getting into an argument over a piss-poor joke about McDonalds, which is more inkeeping with Gamefaqs than this forum.
Someone lock this topic now? It’s gone ludicrously off topic.
Actually Geoff, EGM magazine confirmed that the PC version of Phantasy Star Universe looks better than the PlayStation 2 counterpart, kind of like Final Fantasy XI did, and they recommend the PC version over the PS2 version.

As long as the PC version isn’t merely the same game run in a higher resolution then that sounds more reasonable to me. Let’s hope it reaches America and Europe on the PC…
It’s a shame that Grandia 3 and Soul Calibur 3 are going to be PS2 exclusives though.
The Phantasy Star Online (atleast the first) games have been available for the PC, but in Japanese only. They did the same thing for Skies of Arcadia (Eternal Arcadia over there) but i’m not sure if that really was followed through. PSU will probably stay over in Japan for the PC.
Soul Calibur will actually be a PS2 exclusive not PS3, which I am very dissapointed about.
But where did you hear about Grandia 3 being a PS3 exlusive? I hope this really isn’t true Geoffrey. Grandia 2 was one of my favorite Dreamcast games, and RPG’s in general. I really don’t want it’s sequel to come out on only that console!
Well, EGM is a gaming mag in the United States… I’d wager Sonic Team plans on releasing the game in the US, especially considering most of Sonic Team’s games have sold more copies outside of Japan, and that includes Phantasy Star Online. Really, it doesn’t make sense to give EGM multiple pages of exclusive game info, screenshots, and interviews on the game and not release the game here… the hype would be wasted.
I also doubt the lack of PSU on PC being ported, considering that Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst is making its way to US shores. Additionally, Eternal Arcadia for PC was scrapped a few months ago.
On a third note, Enix bought out Game Arts awhile back, and since they merged with Square, Square Enix owns the rights to Grandia. Grandia III is coming for PS2 for certain. There’s no market for Xbox, and aside from Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, which was funded primarily by Nintendo anyways, Square Enix doesn’t do GameCube games.
Also, since FFXI has been released on PC in the US and has done well, it’s not like it would be unprecedented to have a wide PC release of a Japanese online RPG. I think FFXI’s success has more to do with a willingness to promote the PC version of PSU than the fact PSO: Blue Burst is coming over. I don’t know any PC gamers running out to get PSO:BB, though having it on the shelves would probably help build a little name recognition if nothing else.

Sorry, that was a typo. I meant the PS2 (I was half asleep when I wrote that). And yes, Grandia 3 is a PS2 exclusive. Soul Calibur 3 on the PS2 probably won’t look much better than the original Dreamcast game (I’m willing to bet money on it), but we’ll have to wait and see.
Soul Calibur 2 on the PS2 already looks better…?
Not DOA 3 better, no.
I’m not trying to argue that the PS2 isn’t more powerful than the DC, but the graphical leap between Soul Calibur 1 and 2 just isn’t that great (where are those 75 million polygons per second when you need them ).
Ah, yeah. DOA3 still looks much better. The nail on the coffin for me, though, was the fact that I just didn’t think SC2 was as well-polished (gameplay-wise) as SC1. Personal opinion, though.
And those polygons? It’s just PR speak. It doesn’t do you much good to have 75 million polygons when you’ve got no effects, no physics, no AI, etc, because that’s what that number represents. And besides… it’s becoming less and less about polygons, and more and more about texturing/lighting.
