I know many of you adore SEGA and their games, but I know that many of you are capable of being objective and knowing that SEGA is capable of making mistakes.
I would just like to know from all the SEGA fans what SEGA’s worst blunders were.

The worst video game ever is Rise of the Robots, which Sega didn’t make. I don’t even think it made onto any of their platforms, which was good.
Sega’s worst blunders were easily the CD and the 32X. But worst games…? Hmm. Bonanza Brothers was pretty crap. Alex Kidd and the Lost Stars was rather poor after one playthrough. More recently…the graphics on Fighters Megamix were lack-say-days-ic-al (I don’t know the correct spelling) and Toy Racer.
I’d disagree, but only because Rise of the Robots had passable graphics for the time: I’ve played games just as bad that also look like digitised vomit to boot. I’ll see if I can come up with any made by Sega itself…
Arcie : FM’s graphics were poor but the gameplay rawked.
I can’t really think of a Sega game I played and didn’t like. But that’s because I only tend to play games I know I will like.

No matter how bad you may have thought it was, they did indeed make a sequel Rise 2 I beleive it was called.
As for Sega blunders, the Sega CD was a blunder financially and technically but I disagree if you thought the games were lacking… There were some great Working Design’s RPG’s such as the Lunar series Vay and Popful Mail; as well as the superb Shining Force CD.
Sega’s worst game? The one that comes to mind first is Sonic R, man what were they thinking?
Let’s see, Dynamite Cop 2 wasn’t all that great, and 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker was dissapointing. Alien Front Online wasn’t bad but it was a let down for me. Does anyone remember Zombie Revenge for the DC, funny game because it was pretty bad.
I’m with Ghen though, I usually play games I know I will like.
Oh wait another one came to mind, Sonic Heroes. I myself haven’t played it much, but others on this board seem dead set against it.
I’m surprised you thought Sonic R was soo bad - not that I felt it was amazing myself, but I wouldn’t have thought it was one of Sega’s worst games ever… what did you dislike so much about it?
Sonic R was one of the worst games Sega ever did? Eh…no. For two reasons:
Sonic R was developed by Traveler’s Tales, not Sega.
Sonic R was a good game. SSM gave it a 90%+ rating, and I’m sure the other mags gave it a reasonable rating too. Maybe you just didn’t “get” it.
Dynamite Cop 2 (which I recall being the sequel to “Die Hard Arcade”, named despite having zero connections to the movies) was poor, but it’s not one of Sega’s worst. If it wasn’t a coin-op conversion, it would have been, but as is…
Edit: And Sonic Heroes, whilst being a poor Sonic game, is an acceptable platformer.
I can understand you like the game but that isn’t really proof.
I haven’t played the game so I’m not trying to saying antying about it’s quality really…
Have any of you ever played Drake of the 99 Dragons? It was an Xbox exclusive released a year or so ago. That was truly the worst game ever, because, for the most part, it was unplayable.
Never heard of RotR though…I’m intrigued!
Oh, and Gehn, couldn’t help but notice your avatar. I can’t wait for Advent Rising either!

No, Gehn, the proof is in the fact that several reviewers gave it a positive nod, as well as myself.
Rise of the Robots (for Raizen) was a 2-D fighting game released in 94/95. Set in the future, you took on the role of a lone Cyborg, fighting 5 opponents in a Mortal Kombat style setting. So, five fights and you’ve beaten the entire game. You could only be the cyborg in 1-up mode…nothing else. The graphics were decent, but the gameplay sucked and there were approximately 3 sound effects in the entire game. 2 player mode was slightly better (not hard), but player one still had to be the Cyborg whilst player 2 could be any of the other robots.
Gamefaqs gives it the thumbs down…
You forgot to mention that he had an astounding total of two special moves, which didn’t help matters. But yeah, (also for Raizen), Rise of the Robots was one of the first console games to use actual 3D rendered graphics (Donkey Kong Country-style); it got way too much hype from the gaming press because of that, and thus disappointed even more spectacularly than it would have anyway.

Thats right it was created by Traveler’s Tales, my mistake. I think the reason I had such bad views on the game was I didn’t play it on the Saturn but on the PC, a couple years after release. I really didn’t think the running aspect worked since that game didn’t have the same sense of speed earlier Sonic games did. Maybe not the worst game ever, but on the lower end of the spectrum.
While Sonic Heroes may be an acceptable platformer, it is not an acceptable Sega game. But what is these days.
I’m pumped for Advent Rising also Gehn, reminds me of the old game Out of this World and the Sega CD sequel Heart of an Alien. Hopefully my computer will be decent enought o paly it when it comes out.
Rise of the Robots I believe was created specifically to be a launch game for the 3DO, so they just rushed some pretty game out the door. Then when that flopped totally they started porting it everywhere.

Both of which were completely useless. The game could be won with just the jump kick.
That didn’t help the game much either, did it?
Incidentally, can Panzer Dragoon Mini get a mention in here somewhere? That at least seems like one of the most colossal missed opportunities I can remember, even if its graphics were technically quite good for a Game Gear game…
Out of curiousity, what was so bad about Panzer Dragoon Mini apart from it’s length? It seemed a fun PD spin off to me, although not something that offered a great amount of reply value…
Sure it was fun…for about five minutes.
I think that Sega’s worst blunder was its advertisement campaign for all of their consoles, they simply didn’t work.
Well I’ll just look at my collection and tell you what I dislike.
I find it funny though that about 100% of my Mega Drive games were from Sega, then roughly 80% of my Saturn games were, then on Dreamcast 50%, and only one of my Xbox games is Sega-made. Obviously the Xbox isn’t a Sega console but they’re just making games that seem so lifeless and generic now.
Sonic Heroes is so bad that I didn’t buy it. Nuff said.
You mean they actually advertised at all!?!
In my opinion… there hasn’t been a game developed by one of Sega’s in-house teams that I didn’t dislike. >.>;; So no blunders in my book.
