But how many parents have been misinformed into buying the wrong console by some ignorant shop assistant who happens to be a Sony zealot? I’ve seen this happen plenty of times the most memorable being when some woman was asking about which system had the best DVD system and he proceeded to tell her that the PS2 was the only choice for DVD playback because the others weren’t advanced enough to use this technology. Right in front of the frigging Xbox display to. I’m actually careful to which shop i buy my games from and only buy from a trusted source of unbiased real gamer opinion.
Don’t forget having a tiny number of fantastic, pulse-pounding games, those that do work are all to do with established characters (Mario, Zelda etc) and are pretty much all within the same genre (platform, kart racer, puzzle, shooter).
Pretty much the only GC game I see myself buying any time soon is the Megaman X Collection.
I’ll probably buy a 360 in about 6 years time when they’re dirt cheap and there are shed loads of awesome games to choose from. I’ll probably buy a Revolution in about 6 months time when they’re cheap as chips and have shed loads of awesome, fresh, gameplay orientated games new and old.
6 months!!! You are aware of Nintendos policy of delaying games for as long as possible, right? Then of course you have regional release differences too! If the GC release schedules are anything to go by, I’d expect Mario Party 35. 36 & 37 within the first week, and possibly one actual platform style Mario game at some point never.
Hi! I moved at the beggining of the year, just got my net connection back. And I do finally have my 360, really sweet but nothing that impressive yet. Perfect Dark Zero looks phenomenal, if only the framerate was solid…
Kimimi I can half agree with your argument, essentially it’s about percieved value and I think that worked against Gamecube somewhat as well. This is my thought though, if N is unwilling to go toe-to-toe with both Sony and MS, compete directly for the exact same market, then it’s far better they make it official this time instead of essentially lying about it.
Berserker made some of the same points I was thinking already, and things may be a little different in Europe but I believe both N64 and Gamecube had much higher proportionate sales to parents still. Nintendo just plain failed to deliver the needed caliber of software often enough with GC of course, either 1st or 3rd party. But here’s one thing, even though it’s been known to us for a long time already, video games are officially not for kids anymore.
Which means there’s now a specific gap in the market for a product that is actually for kids, or at least “families”. And I’m not talking about the adolescents who will indeed be screaming for their 360’s and PS3’s, but a 6 or 7 year old kid really wont be judging a game on how realistic it looks or how complex the lighting model is, it’s just colorful and exciting looking or it’s not. Again it’s a matter of whether Nintendo can deliver enough of what’s needed to really entrench their name with the demographic.
I realize this isn’t what a lot of N diehards want, I’ve never even considered “kiddie” as a bad word either, but to try and ride the fence the same way they did with GC again (just plain badly) would just be certain death. That’s why I think this may be for the best with Nintendo.
Anyone who is interested should definitely try to pick this game up when it’s released, one of the best and most original games i’ve played in a long time.
How story-driven is Condemned exactly? I have a soft spot for first person perspective adventure/RPG games. I, personally, can’t believe how underrated V:TM - Bloodlines was by the masses. Their loss, my gain I suppose.
Condemned is very story driven, without the story it would just be another first-person action game. Each chapter in the game revolves around a key plot element in the story. It may not be the longest game, but I had a lot fun playing it the entire time. Also the ending depends on how many birds\metal pieces you collect throughout the game, and the game gives you many tantalizing clues as to what may be included in the sequel, which is rumored to be already in development.
