PD1 credits of Mobygames are incomplete. There are some people missing (Ryuta Ueda, …). I’ve PD1 (Saturn version), PD Zwei and PD Orta’s full credits. Moreover, I posted a Azel’s credits topic some months ago in order to translate them but the idea didn’t prosper. I have been able to translate a few names with the help of some japanese dictionaries since then but need help.
I could open a new thread and paste all of them in such a way that all forum members could contribute in order to translate Azel’s credits. What do you think?
That is a great idea, Nightwalker. I think even posting them untranlsated on Solo’s site might be better than nothing- maybe some Japanese fan will stumble onto the site and help translate them if they saw it.
Excellent job on the site redesign, Solo - the whole thing looks really professional. It’d be very nice to have the forums in the same style, too (or as a different design in the same kind of style, as Gehn suggested; either way, I’m sure it’ll turn out well).
Compiling the credits from the games does sound like a worthwhile project, too. I agree that it’d be fine to put the PDS credits up in Japanese until a definitive translation comes into existence.
I’m glad that the maps section is to your liking, too.
That sounds like a good idea. Even if no one translates the Saga credits, it would be good to add the credits onto the main site as a reference.
Anything in particular, or is it just not to your tastes overall?
It would only need to be a short description, nothing major. About the length of, say, Geoffrey’s ‘The Mystery of the Sky Rider’. I could then add an image and file information to the page, and then we’d have a nice little section where people would be able to know more about what they were downloading.
What resolution are you viewing the page in? It’s readable in 1280 by 1024 on a 19 inch monitor here.
I really liked the new look of the main site and the idea of a Lagi based forum is a very good one too. By the way, I would like to thank you Solo by providing us with a site this good. Using the Net everyday and seeing the ad-infested, @#$$% useless crap that exists out there as a norm make me value this place more everyday.
About the ad-infested site comment, well, like Abadd mentioned in that GameFAQs thread on the Liberal District - the money to host sites has to come from somewhere. This place is a pretty small site, so it doesn’t cost a great deal, but it’s understandable that large sites such as GameFAQs would have to find some way of paying for the insane amounts of bandwidth that it much go through. Rest assured though, I have no plans of putting ads on this site in the immediate future, I’d rather just pay for hosting myself, at least while the site is the size it is.
So, from what I’ve gathered from this thread, some of you would like to see the forum redesigned in a fashion similar to the main site, but with a different character. I also mentioned using XMB Forum (example: xmbforum.com/community/boards ) as the type of forum (their are converters from phpBB2 so we wouldn’t lose original posts and members). Are there any objections to this or would you rather we stuck with phpBB or another board?
You are absolutely right about the money, Solo. Some people do it in a way that is not (much) unbearable like the Penny Arcade site. What really annoys me is the people who overdo it like the morons at Gamespy. Like the already mentioned guys at PA said once: that kind of intrusive advertising is almost as bad as Spam.
About the forums I think that the better solution is to choose one that is easy to manage and add to. Most solutions today are similar in features so the choice is more a matter of stability and usability.
i think phpbb is absolutely ok. don’t go over to another forum system, especially xbm looks absolutely similar to phpbb. remember how long it took to shape this board into something that looks panzer…
Well, I mean the plan is to redesign the forums anyway, so when that happens it would be a good chance to change over to a different board (if the members here didn’t mind). I have a friend who uses XMB and it’s worked out really well for him, it’s nice and easy to modify and version 1.9 has some great features like a built in spell checker.
In the end, though, the different types of forums are all quite similar so - like SegaTecToy says - it would be more a matter of stability and usability, and a forum that is easier to manage/modify.
Overdoing it can be really intrusive. I think that the normal built in banner ads are okay, but pop ups are an absolute no no. They’re just bad web design in my opinion.
