The Ancients were human

don’t know if it’s been mentioned yet, but…

i don’t speak japanese, though i do know the japanese word for “human” is ningen and i do clearly hear azel say “ningen”.

Really? Well, like I said, it wouldn’t surprise me if the translation is indeed accurate. I guess that would mean there isn’t really much left to discuss. If Azel says the Ancients are human, then they’re human.

EXACTLY!
I think that they simply didn’t bother updating the first game. But even in PD Orta, both Iva and the Empire stated that the Ancients were human. It’s of course possible that they simply didn’t know the real identity of the Ancients, but again we hear nothing about them not being human. The game’s introduction does say this though:

“However, from amidst the ashes, a human Empire rose to power.”

This might give the impression that there was a non-human Empire once. Is this simply a way of making the Ancients look more mysterious?
I would have thought that if Sega were willing to go to the trouble of compiling all that extra background history about the Panzer Dragoon world - and making sure that it was compatible with the Japanese Panzer Dragoon games - that they’d spend just a little longer making sure that the original Panzer Dragoon’s script was accurate. Unless there wasn’t anything to correct after all…

If that’s the case then it might be worth getting hold of an MP3 version of that piece of dialogue and linking it to a topic on these forums. Someone who knows Japanese should be able to translate that one piece of dialogue, which would confirm everything if Azel did indeed say ‘humans’.

Actually on second thoughts, the people who created the monsters and Towers were probably human, but that doesn’t mean their ‘employers’ were. So, that piece of dialogue wouldn’t do much but reconfirm that their were some humans in the Ancient Age, but it would be worth finding out the exact translation nevertheless.

Humans are indeed the ancients. I can’t believe this is be debated.

Abadd, you’re enjoying this too much.

If everyone in the Panzer world knows that the ancients were in fact human, then why does the information in Panzer Dragoon Orta state that their “identity was lost with time”? The Empire wouldn’t hesitate to advertise the fact that the ancients were human if that was the case… unless it’s something that’s taken for granted.

The information found in Panzer Dragoon Orta was intended to clarify the rather murky translations of the previous games for older fans of the series as much as it was meant to help introduce new fans to the world of Panzer Dragoon.

Also, the Emperor is said to be a “direct descendent of the ancients”; now, if the ancients were human then every human being on the planet could be considered a descendent of the ancients.

PD Orta even speculates that the Sky Rider – someone who wasn’t quite human – was a descendent of the ancients (I’m rather fond of that theory, actually). So, we really should keep an open mind…

I wonder if there the possibility that the Sky Rider was a direct descendant of the Ancients could be true. I still have trouble believing that the Sky Rider was a drone. Why would a drone that was meant to be a dragon rider be unable to defend himself in combat?

I think he was just caught off guard. His dragon didn’t erect a shield in time to protect him because the Sky Rider didn’t look up in time to see the Dark Dragon swooping down on him (I assume the dragon and the Sky Rider shared each other’s senses).

The Sky Rider could be an ancient wearing Ancient Age armour I suppose. All the ancients’ technology like drones, structures and armour seem to be made out of the same material. All the evidence points to him being a drone though (the Dark Dragon probably killed him to stop the Heresy dragon from entering Sestren).

I can imagine the ancients genetically engineering new host bodies which were fueled by the green energy we see spiralling out of the Sky Rider the moment he dies, and transfering their minds to those presumably immortal bodies. Or the ancients could’ve just genetically engineered their own bodies. Or better yet, some humans were just more evolved than others…

the pitiable humans of the PD world think of the ancients as gods.

the concrete difference between ancients and humans is that ancients had vast knowledge and power. so when the sky rider is said to be “a descendent of the ancients” that could also refer to him being from a line of humans that retained their knowledge, control, and understanding of the ancient technologies.

in the mind of an average human, that would be enough to grant him the “god” title and thereby set him and his kind apart from other humans.

as for the emperor, don’t trust his propaganda!

You realize that this just negated ‘lurking’?
