Looks pretty decent, we gotta wait and see to be sure I guess…
Sega has a thing for hack and slash games lately it seems

Seems nice but…
…I’m waiting for a game with a good and original plot.
Jeezus.
“Good and original plot”??? Do you know how many Japanese manga/games/movies/etc. are based on this story? Forget all you know about modern Japanases manga-style stories… this is one of the originals. By the grandfather of manga himself, Osamu Tezuka.
If there’s anything this game has got in spades, it’s story.
What is it about it that you think isn’t “good and original”?
That’s like saying Akira is “contrived and unoriginal.”
You don’t understand…
I meant I’m waiting for a new game,with a new plot;not based on a manga or a movie.
Have you read the manga? No? Then what difference does it make?
Somethings cannot be changed…
A sequel would have to leave in shadow cause it had to obbey certain rules imposed by the manga…
It’s heard to explain
I mean, if you’d already read the manga, knew the story, etc., then I could understand.
But if you don’t even know what the story is, I don’t see how that matters. The story is being reworked to make it fit better into a game, so it’s not like it’s being forced into the medium. And frankly, the story is extremely “game-able” (meaning that it is a good fit for a game). What difference does it make if the story was made independently of the game, or if the story was made concurrently?
To be fair though the samurai kills demon games have been done loads of times.
I go back to my earlier example of Akira. “Boy experimented on by government and develops super powers” type stories have been done hundreds of times. Does that make Akira any less relevant?
Would you complain if an Akira game were made?
(caveat: I’m not speaking to the overall quality of the game, just the story. Sure, Onimusha has a similar story, but not quite like this.)
Can you guess what I like in games if I give you the names of my 3 favourite game series of all time? What do these have in commmon? :
Panzer Dragoon series
Legacy of Kain series
Myst series
Oh and this is to answer you Abadd.
You like games in a series?
From what I can tell about that list is that you like games with dark, brooding atmosphere. I can understand if just the general story doesn’t interest you. But, what I’m saying is don’t dismiss it just because it’s a “licensed” property.
Exactly!I have a certain inconscious thing about licenses.
Oh and the common thing about the series is that they are both very original in content, plot, music…
They are realities of their own.
Actually, I don’t think the Panzer and Legacy of Kain series have truly original stories at all… they’re just presented very well.
With stories, originality does not always dictate quality. For instance, even the Matrix story isn’t original. It’s a derivative of a thousand other stories ranging from the story of Jesus Christ, to various episodes of the Twilight Zone.
Story Abadd, story!!
PD story is original. The concept (boy saving world) may not be, but then agehn is nearly impossible to find a game which is.
Nothing is original nowadays. Except me.
Abadd is in super-bitchy mode, it seems.
Nah, not really. I just don’t like it when people make seemingly unfounded claims.
And to answer Gehn, well, I was talking about the story. PD’s story isn’t original. Ancient disaster, an empire searching for the ultimate weapon to rule the world, etc. etc. Nearly the exact same story in, say, every FF from 1-7, Lord of the Rings, etc. However, the way in which it is presented (atmosphere, setting, etc.) is what makes it compelling.
It’s comparable to what West Side Story did to the classic Romeo and Juliet. It’s the exact same story, just wrapped in a different package. The Lion King is just Hamlet in animated form. Star Wars is just Kurosawa’s “Hidden Fortress” set in space. Harry Potter is Star Wars retold.
Nothing wrong with an unoriginal story… it just needs to have a reason to be retold.

Abadd has a point here folks, and by the way West Side Story rocks.
Well then it’s impossible to be original nowadays…
In terms of story, they say it’s been impossible to be original since the days of Shakespeare.
I mean, hell… take one of my favorite movies from recent times: Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi). That story is basically Alice in Wonderland, redone. Does it lessen the quality of the movie? No. It’s still every bit as magical and engrossing and real.
Which is why people need to take advantage of different types of mediums in order to tell stories in new ways.
Take, for instance, Memento. Done normally, it’s just another revenge story. But, director Chris Nolan presented the story in a way that’s borderline revolutionary, in that it forces the audience to experience the same “ailment” that the main character suffers from. Absolutely brilliant.
