SEGA eUROPE PLANS NEW in HOUSE STUDIO

Got this a moment ago

This is quite exciting. Sega Europe could end up porting SHINING FORCE 3 as a budget title if this goes through. Sega europe saved Sega’s collective ass with FOOTBALL MANAGER.

This is interesting news. All I can say is, it’s about damn time. If Sega wants a more international presence, then this is the right way to do it.

This is the thing Geoffery Duke. were not talking about Sega anymore. This is SegaSammy and the sammy management are the ones who are pushing things behind the scenes. Despite the mistakes that the hated old Sega management have done in the past I think a lot of Sega fans across the board cannot hold SS to these mistakes until they start doing it themselves.

Sammy seems to be making all the right moves and keeping things closly to it’s chest. Unlike good ole SOA the Sammy management are not ignorant of the current climate of the market and how RPGs fit into it. I feel that we are going to see a lot more RPGs being translated by Sega themselves in things to come. Half of them could even be from studios that
are aquired or agreeded to some publishing deal that from Software is doing with them at the moment. Who knows what will happen? But the potential is quite promising under this new regime.

I think we finally need to let the dream die, folks. It ain’t gonna happen.

We don’t know that for sure. Sega Europe said it will be pursuing old titles which could be from the arcade or the console eras.

The people who were running Sega during the Saturn era almost ran Sega into the grave; I don’t want to see any Sega fan even try to defend their actions. What Isao Okawa tried to do, as I’ve pointed out before, was to turn Sega around by turning it into an international company once again. The Dreamcast was meant to restore Sega’s tarnished reputation, and it almost worked. Almost.

The people running Sega at the moment are a litte more conservative than before in that they won’t throw money away by making games that have no guarantee of a return on any investment, but they’ve since lost sight of the bigger picture. There’s more to making games than making money. Much more.

Yeah, I agree with Shadow on this. The worst part is the people at Sega don’t even care about atoning for Sega’s mistakes (Sega didn’t nearly go bankrupt twice because it didn’t make its fair share of fatal mistakes), much less the fate of the Shining Force III trilogy. Prove me wrong. Rerelease the trilogy in English as a part of the Sega Ages collection along with a compilation of Dragon Force 1 and 2.

Do they really believe that an Action/RPG branded with the Shining Force name is what we really want, and what we’ve been waiting for for what seems like forever?

All eyes are focused on the other unnamed Shining Force game that went into development not long ago, and if it doesn’t turn out to be what we are expecting, then Sega can kiss goodbye to an entire community of fans. In Japan and outside Japan.

Let’s not forget folks NEO was way into development before Sammy took over and this is the case of the next batch of games coming to E3 or announced in the next few months from Sega.

We keep making this connection with Sega of the past when in fact this is now a brand new company. Presuming that Sammy is going to act just like Sega is pure nonesense when Sammy is a more profitable company due to the fact that it listens to it’s user base. They want Sega to be a true international company again and they won’t make the mistakes of the old regime. SegaSammy has no need to atone for anything they haven 't done.

While Sammy has made it’s presence felt in sega behind the scenes in it’s operations,We are yet to see how they will effect the type of games that will appear.

My case for SHINING FORCE 3 still stands because there is more of a possibility that it might appear thru Sega Ages or this proposed budget title range from Sega Europe and now that we have a REAL japanese management in charge they would be more open to see more RPGs in the market.

You once had huge reservations about Sammy, Goonboy; what changed your mind?

I’ve given up all hope of playing the entire Shining Force III trilogy in my own language, and I don’t have any illusions about Sega doing a good job of continuing the series those Nintendo loyalists at Camelot started 15 years ago.

I suggest you go out and buy yourself a copy of Fable for the Xbox. At least it’s a safe bet (a certainty in fact) that you will play the sequel in English.

I understand of course the reason why everyone is so dissappointed at the fact that SF3’s second and thrid chapters weren’t translated to english.

But in a way it’s kind of an arrogant demand.I mean : why should it be translated to english? Most games aren’t translated to other languages.I can really think of one game beeing translated to portuguese “The Getaway : Black Monday” :P.

So if others can’t get translations themselves english speakers shoulnd’t be given better treatment. In theory of course :stuck_out_tongue:

All I have to say is, it’s a good thing you can speak and read English, Gehn.

And I’m glad that more and more RPGs are originating from western countries so that I don’t have to worry about not playing RPGs in a readable language.

In a perfect world all games would be translated into any number of languages. Many hardcore fans even translate games for free for all the good it does them. We don’t live in a perfect world, though, and games are made, and translated whenever necessary, to supply a demand. That’s it. That’s all anyway ever cares about.

As we know, there is next to no demand for Strategy/RPGs outside of Japan, relatively speaking (when compared to other types of RPGs). There was a time when some people (like my good old friend Bernard) thought that there wasn’t a market for any type of RPG outside of Japan at all. Those idiots were proven wrong years ago. Of course, only certain types of RPGs (i.e. soap operas) have proven to be extremely popular with the masses, so now we have an army of clones to deal with.

As Brett Sperry once said, the games industry is “selling entertainment”. Money shouldn’t be the only motivation for making games, but it almost always is in this day and age. And now we have idiots defending Sega’s idiotic decision to turn the newest Shining Force game into an Action/RPG all in the name of money. You can’t argue with money now can you?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t English the most spoken dialect on the planet?

Nope.I think it’s mandarin.And then comes spanish.English is third.

From what I remember anyways.Altho I’m pretty sure Mandarin is king.

Geoff: I was just trying to piss someone off really :D.

It will be sad tho if languages die because of globalization.I woulnd’t be suprised to see it coming in a century or so.

That’s news to me. I have n’t seen anyone defending NEO at all.

I’m defending Sammy because of some of the moves they have done and how they want Sega to be in the future. I’ll give them a chance until they give me a reason not to like them.

As I have said countless times before, NEO is most likely to be a semi spin off title and the real SHINING FORCE game is coming down the road. We both know Duke that Sega has n’t commissioned a sequel to NEO because
the game was in final stages of development when the new title was announced. And I doubt that Sega will release another action RPG based on the same brand;variety is the spice of life. This title like SAKURA TAISEN:EPISODE 0 is a way to introduce new players to the franchise. Both games, funny enough are prequels to the overall series/upcoming game(s)
and both of them use RPG game engines different to the core series.

The difference with SHINING FORCE is that unlike SAKURA TAISEN it has only recently been resurrected and the ill treatment of its fanbase and no
inside knowledge in the direction of the franchise as a whole means that the fans do and will not trust Sega unless they make some inroads with them. Sega either needs to hint that the next title will indeed be an SRPG but they may hinder the sales of NEO or risk losing the remaining fanbase intrested in buying a new SHINING FORCE product.

It’s kind of wierd in a way that our eastern brothers and sisters who are fans of the series feel the same way about Sega’s mishandling of SHINING FORCE as you do when they had the chance to play SHINING FORCE 3 in it’s entirety.

My feelings on this is that Sega is trying to turn this into a big selling franchise. Which means that we wil see several games on SHINING FORCE in various styles. Sega does this varied styles of genre in all their big selling games like HOUSE OF THE DEAD. Of course they should have really released the rumoured SRPG version of SHINING FORCE first and then release NEO.

Well, like I wrote before, we shall have to wait and see. I hope you’re right, though.

Perish the thought of Sega actually doing something right for a change!

Ha Ha! :anjou_happy: Your right about that.

I think spanish is third. But yeah, mandarin is first.
