It’s like… I threw a snowball into the general vicinity of Light Wing and Jimkemon and now they’re throwing them at each other? This is awesome…
I can’t tell if Jimkemon was addressing anything at me or not, but my point was not that PDS and FF cannot be compared as games, but that if you are holding the main recommending elements of one as your ideal, then the other cannot compare.
And Light Wing I guess I need to apologize for “calling you a punk”, I think you said you’re 15, maybe I hit too close to home? But since you brought up respect…
The only thing I ever said to you that may have started all this resentment, was not even about this issue. I said “you little punk” for picking the name Light Wing, making it clear that you think Orta is the best game, calling PDS overrated, and then letting us know that you don’t consider FF7 overrated. And while I never really believed this was your intention, facetious usernames is a common way to disrespect a forum and troll.
Sorry to repeat myself here but you don’t seem to have got the message from before. When your very first contributions to this forum are an argument that Panzer Dragoon Saga isn’t as good as some of us feel it is, when you hold up FF7 as an example of a ‘better’ game, then get so uptight about the reaction? Indeed, you basically threatened me with far worse should I ever dare to say that FF is overrated in one of those forums, so you effectively admit that you have a double standard for respectful conduct… as in, we don’t deserve the same respect as your FF forums, right?
Respect doesn’t necessarily have to be earned, some degree is in order as a baseline. The real point is that respect is a two way street, and perhaps you might give some thought to the concept of putting your own house in order first.
What the fuck he said FF7 WASN’T over rated? Jesus that has to be the most over rated game of all time. I’ve played it for about 2 hours in at my friends house cos I bought a copy only to realise my shite PS2 won’t play it. I’m in no rush to play it anymore til I get a PS3 and hope it works in that but I can honestly say its very over rated.
I was neither aiming any snowballs at light wing (whats wrong with that username?) or Heretic Agnostic. Just aiming at anyone who abuses people who do compare FF to PDS.
Nothing wrong with the name Light Wing, it was just odd to me that she (I think) didn’t pick a name from Orta since the first thing of substance she wanted to contribute to this board was the notion that Saga doesn’t deserve more respect than Orta.
It’s not a big deal to me, my original comment was a pointed jest. But I guess the respect I had previously shown Light Wing, in acknowledging some of the merits of her perspective, was not enough currency to buy forgiveness.
It is also hard for me to not look back at the problems the dev team must have had even finishing it- Sega’s Saturn business was falling apart, it is a Sega simply loving their fans that even allowed it to be translated. I can’t believe it is so innovative and fresh ain light of everything falling apart around them.
That all said, it certainly left all of us with wanting more … I always had dreams SMilebit would get to use the Skies of Arcadia tools to make a a new RPG …
The development limitations must have been incredibly pressing at the time. I’m glad they focused more on quality than quantity, but imagine if they could have done both? Imagine if they had the extra 6 months to give the game another town or a few extra side-quests. Or perhaps even to put in an entirely new level? I personally think the game would have been better for it… but then again, what game wouldn’t benefit from a few extra months of development?
I’m itching for another Sega RPG as well. They have such a great history in the genre. If only we could get them to focus on some of there more niche titles… consumer action! How sweet would it be if one of us got rich and just went up to Sega and told them we’d fund another Panzer Dragoon sequel? Probably not gonna happen, but I can dream right?
To me the game was incomplete because it left me wanting more which is a testement to how great the game actually is. In the usual PANZER DRAGOON games you only get a glimpse of the world that its set in and not an exploration which SAGA supplied. Obviously down to the fact that the point of the game is to shoot every imperial on sight. Where SAGA excels is you feel the culture of the world that its set in,the politics the scenary and whatforth. Which is why i hope that they create another RPG set in this wonderful crafted universe. I can only imagine how it would look and feel on the next gen consoles.
Am I the only one who doesn’t want another Panzer RPG? I already know that people aren’t gonna be 100% happy with it. One person’s gonna complain about the dragon design, another on the soundtrack, another on the story, etc. If I had it my way, I would just release a shooter because I think that is what the series is built on.
They should do a shooter because people would complain about an RPG? People complain about shooters too you know, as PDO showed.
They should do any kind of PD game, as long as they put the required time and effort into it and not try to turn the series into something different like what they’re doing to Shining Force.
I’d play anything that lived up to the PD premise whether it was a pure adventure title, a RTS, an RPG, a TBS, an action title, hell even a team based multiplayer online FPS.
The lore is so vast and complex you can have pretty much anything, even a puzzle game that has you unlocking weird Ancient devices or something.
Of course I’d rather have something with room for a lot of story.
I want another shooter myself . In fact I love to see a ORTA II. But I think I’ve more chance of winning the lotto than me playing a new Panzer game this gen
Whatever, dude. If Sega doesn’t follow through with another Panzer game, they will only prove that they truly are nothing more than a small piece of forgotten history. Trust me, another sequel WILL happen, and it will be during this generation of consoles. I say it’ll manifest in some form by 2009.
Hmm, its been 4-5 years since PDO came out and there’s no announcement about a new PD.
If there were going to be one, there’s going to be some complaining about it being very different from the series. And we all know that the newest rider, Orta will return if another sequel is coming.
Perhaps the series is long-forgotten and the creators thought that it is best to move on in Sega.
Or perhaps they will make one if Sonic fails or Sega is f*** up.
I’d be VERY surprised if Orta was a central character in any sequel. It would demolish a characteristic of the series, and in that context it would constitute pandering to mediocrity. If I found out it was going to be, it would seal my expectations for that game. And Orta is actually my favorite rider as a character, that’s not what this is about.
She probably will be the main character, the ending has a premise like that at least. In the other titles the ending was also the end of the given rider’s journey. In Orta it’s more or less the beginning.
I hope Orta is not the next rider - please, anything but that! It would actually be pretty cool to play Azel this time through - the main mission objective, of course, would be to destroy the demon spawn she created, who now has access to ALL of the ancient technology, and is going to use it to permanently destroy what’s left of the planet. Yes, that would be a very cool story, indeed.
I don’t think making Orta the main character of the next Panzer Dragoon game would be a good idea, although I would like to find out what becomes of her and the dragon pup. If Orta is the main character of a new Panzer game there would be a lot of questions that would need answering - they’d basically need to retell PDO in the prologue for it to make sense. As a fan of Orta I would probably enjoy a game that continued her story but at the same time I think it would confuse a lot of people who hadn’t played the Xbox game.
However, if Orta becomes the villain in the next Panzer Dragoon game, I will have no complaints
Well Solo it isn’t like it hasn’t been done before.Orta’s story isn’t that big anyways so it wouldn’t be that difficult.
I don’t really know if I would like Orta to be in the new game or not as the main character. On one side I think it would be cool but then agehn if it’s an RPG I dunno.
All I know is if well thought out the PD world has great potential and thy have a vast array of possible cool characters.
I’d be happy if they’d produce the rail shooters and a few RPGs of the series this gen. The series only made a short appearence in the last generation and hopefully next gen it will have several entrys in the series like it was back in the saturn days.

Well the game did break even and the producers said they would follow ORTA with another RPG entry in the series. Whatever actually happens though is quite scary for PD fans because of sega’s western shift. There’s a strong liklihood that PANZER DRAGOON was picked up by a western studio to do a western spin on the title, since PD was always an admired game with developers. Who knows another PANZER DRAGOON game for a handheld system may appear down the line to the spiritual succesor of the GG,the PSP.
Panzer Dragoon 1 & 2 on PSP would be an awesome little box to have sitting on my shelf, and considering how many other Saturn games are already out on PSP, not an impossiblity either dreams
