One can’t blame COD for the decline in 2D and 3D shooters, that was happing inthe 16 bit and 32 bit generations sadly enough . It costs so much to make a AAA shooter now that a new Panzer shooter will never be developed for a home system, our only hope I guess is a Panzer Dragoon Saga II
But to be honest I rather SEGA used the canvas engine to make a sequel to Skies of Arcadia and just remade Saga with the best next gen engine SEGA can muster ( I was more or less happy with the end of Saga) and if the remake sells well enough, who knows…

I have to agree, gamers and games are becoming more dumb every year, today its all about explosions and non-sense shooting.
A good exemple of this is one of my favorite series, Ace Combat, those games used to have a great story and setting, and they really made you think about what you were doing.
Now instead of a deep story with well balanced action, we get Ace Combat Assault Horizon, which can be described as a CoD in the air, lots of explosions, scripted dogfights (i actually never thought that was even possible), dumb shooting, and a forgetable clich? story where US are the good guys and the bad guys are… Try to guess guys, its a clich? used a thousand time

No-one? I know a lot of people who liked Ace Combat for their storys, go talk to a fan and ask them about the Demons of Razgriz or Cipher, they can tell you the entire story of the series in a heartbeat. Take a look at Ace Combat 6, exploring the effects of war on the people and seeing it through the eyes of both the pilots of Emmeria, the good guys, and Estovakia, suposedly the bad guys. The Humans aspects of war have always been present in the series storys.
My hatred for CoD is justified, take a look of how many FPS games come out every year, take a look at how many series are becoming closer and closer to a FPS. To you really think its all a big coincidence? Don?t you think this might have something to do with the fact that there is a certain series called Call of Duty which basically launches the very same game every year selling millions at each launch and making everyone go after a piece of the market?
I still own Ace Combat 6 and I can tell you now, the story means next to nothing to me I care far more about the gameplay and on that score , the levels and missions go on for far too long - that is what hurts the game for me .
Since Doom FPS have become ten a penny, just like Platform games on 8 and 16 bit systems - Most genre’s will have their time in the lime light , enjoy fantastic sales and where we get copy cats
Madden play like COD, FIFA play like COD, GTA play like COD , GOW plays like COD ?, Mario Kart plays like COD, Fabel plays like COD, Final Fantsy Plays like COD, Dragon Quest plays like GOD, Uncharted plays like Cod, Assassins Creed
You know we can make a lovely list of game which sell in the millions and do little new with each new entry, but aren’t FPS’s or anything to do with COD. What next Golden Eye sold 8 million thanks to COD ?
Just because they sell doesn’t automatically mean they’d be brought up to a standard that does a game justice, especially in the case of PD, which is why I’d rather it stayed dead.
I shudder to think what Facebook gamers would do to PD.
