I don’t know if this has been mentioned yet, but the music in the “Lost Jungle” stage uses a lot of the instrumentations that a Panzer soundtrack uses. It was first thing to come to mind when I ran through it.
And I’ll be darned if the giant skeleton in “Mystic Mansion” level wasn’t a tribute to Golden Axe as well. One of its poses is straight from the character selection screen.
I haven’t had the chance to play Sonic Heroes yet, but I’ve recently noticed what might also be a Panzer “nod”…
Has anyone here finished The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker? If so, did you notice that the “Tower of the Gods” in the middle of the ocean looked surprisingly like one of the Panzer world’s Ancient Age ruins? It had the typical white stone / black lines design and everything - on the outside of the structure, at least; the inside was very different. But it did look quite like I’d imagine a huge cel-shaded Ancient Age ruin to.
Of course, it seems unlikely that Nintendo would be referencing / alluding to PD in a Zelda game, but on the other hand I thought it would be odd if they’d come up with such a similar design by chance. I’d post links to some good images of this if I could, but unfortunately I’ve never seen any on the net…
Beyond Good and Evil also has ruins that look like that (To me atleast)
It has airships as well, though very very different ones (they look like modernised zeppelins) but the airships in combination with those “ruins” (or whatever they are supposed to be in the game) made me think of it like a “Sci-Fi-ed” version of pd in some screenshots I saw online (can’t remember where though)
