Nausicaa is indeed written by the same person who made Sprited away.
It was orginally 7 volumes but it can now be found as 4 volumes and these volumes are easy to find. For Americans just go to a Borders bookstore or a Suncoast and you will find the box set in the manga section.
There is many things that the two can be related to. Like powerful empires that threatened the rest, a wasteland like world, monsters that seem more insect than anything else. There are more but I cannot think of anymore.
Read the series and you will know what I mean. You can watch the anime as well but you wont get the full experience of it.
Hi everyone !
I used to be Kanon on the old forum, but now I use my “true” user name, Zzoull.
So, “Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind”, is a manga written by Hayao Miyazaki in 1983/84. This guy also did Totoro, Laputa, Mononok? and Chihiro.
Here in France, the manga has been published in 7 volumes, with around 160 pages each one. The story is very interesting.
Of course, there are no dragons in it, but a lot of things are similars with PD : empire( translated in french by “tolm?que”), creatures (mutated insects), ancient machine (called “Warrior-god”) and flying machines.
I’m tempted to pick up this series, especially since it inspired the Panzer Dragoon series. I’ve been spending money a little bit too much recently though
he also heavily inspired and influenced nausicaa, in turn naming his daughter after the main character. nausicaa draws from moebius as much as panzer dragoon, which is the reason for their similiarities.
Team Andromeda was indeed inspired by moebius however every single design seen in the games is done by themselves and NOT moebius. The only thing he had to do with PD development was that Team Adromeda asked him to do the box art for PD1, still after their own ideas and guidance though.
Just making it clear, let’s not take any credit off TA now… Being inspired by someone is far from copying or using his work…
Nausicaa is currently being reprinted for its third/maybe forth run in the states. This edition comes with color maps and updated and better translations. The books are also now bigger than their old graphic novel counterparts.
It is much easier to find now, go to any comic store and look in their graphic novel section or any bookstore should have it.
There is also places like Amazon and E bay for those that live out of the states.
