I’m looking for recommendations of games that are worthy of being played to the end and that also respect the player’s time. I noticed that Shining Force I & II and Shenmue II aren’t on my list (I may have given up on the latter when Sega seemingly abandoned the series), so I’m aiming to complete those games especially, along with finally playing the complete translated version of Shining Force III.

These would be my top 10 recommendations:

Xenogears (PlayStation) One of the most deep and complex stories I’ve ever seen in an rpg. Also fun combo based battle system.

Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii/3DS) spiritual successor to Xenogears. Great story fun characters. Just skip all of the sidequests.

Deus ex human revolution (PC/PS3/360) Awesome conspiracy theory fps game set in a society that has fused with machines.

Metroid Prime series (Gamecube/Wii) Creative game design, beautiful art design. Fun first person shooter/puzzles.

Star wars Jedi knight 2 (PC) One of the best Star Wars games. A first person shooter/lightsaber fighting/exploration game. Also had a believable, likable main character. If you like this game also try Jedi Academy!

The longest journey (PC) great point and click puzzle game. Lots of really unique puzzles.

Beyond Good and Evil (PC/Xbox/PS2) Great game with endearing characters interesting story and the sequel is coming out soon!

Outcast remake (PC/PS4) Unique world and interesting story to delve into.

Dragon quest 8 (3DS/PS2) The best Dragon Quest game imo.

Evergrace/Forever Kingdom (Playstation) Unique action rpg with creative designs and a great soundtrack. It’s also cool to be able to see all of your armor and weapons as you wear them rather than wearing the same thing for the entire game like most rpgs.

Here is my list! Very useful to have it all sortable!

The only games you haven’t played that I’ve rated 5/5 are Morrowind and Shenmue II. The former hasn’t aged well but the latter is definitely a must play, especially before Shenmue III in August.

So I will simply refer you to my 4.5/5 rated list:

Maybe I should add my list to GameFAQs…

I had a look through your 4.5 list @UrbanReflex. I’ve played most of those.

The later Far Cry games have been recommended to me by others too, so perhaps I will look into them. I played about half way through Far Cry 1 back in the day before giving up.

The Walking Dead I’ve bought but haven’t played through, so I should get on to that (you’ll see the Game of Thrones Telltale series on my list… I can recommend if you enjoyed the show).

Do you recommend finishing Morrowind and/or Skyrim? I have always found the Elder Scrolls games most fun when you’re off doing your own thing…

Far Cry 4 is my favourite, if you only play one play this. Unless you want to do coop, in which case FC5 is ya dawg.

I think Morrowind had an engaging story (and DLC!) but really both Oblivion and Skyrim lost me about half way through. So, only really would I say completing Morrowind is worthwhile but only if you can deal with the agedness of the game.

Man I’ve just been looking through my 4/5 games too and you forget just how many great games there have been.

I picked up the Morrowind GOTY Edition on GOG a while back, so I might play though it. It had a great atmosphere. But I will need to get a new mouse first, since I no longer own one. I use a control pad (almost) exclusively for games now since it’s more relaxing, and an external trackpad for everything else.

There’s certainly been some great games over the years. Of my list, I would recommend (based on your gaming taste), BioShock Infinite + the Burial at Sea DLC (the best BioShock IMO), Freedom Planet, and the Life is Strange games.
