I dind’t want to create a new topic just for this but taking this part into consideration :
"Prologue
A glorious, proud civilization; extinguished for thousands of years…
Once mankind’s strength had disappeared, they now live in the twilight (of that age) threatened by the remodelled Living Weapons they themselves had created."
…we can pretty much garantee the ancients where indeed human. That is assuming Kimimi’s skils are to be trusted Just kidding!
Oh no, I’m happy for people to question my work - I’ve never claimed to be particularly skilled and I do not want people to assume that I believe myself as Gods gift to translating - I do it to improve my skills and hopefully turn out something interesting at the same time. There are plenty of people just on TwotA who far surpass myself.
Anyways…
Although I’ve written it in rather choppy English (bad habit + lack of translating skill) I do distinctly remember the “…they themselves have created” part, and questioning it at the time. That part does make it sound like the current civilization are remnants of the Ancient Age, terrorised by their own devices.
I don’t think it’s unreasonable - the Dark Ages came after the great Roman Empire, and many technological feats were left to crumble and decay. Or look at Egypt - the natives living their couldn’t build a pyramid, but their ancestors certainly did.
I just go by the ending of SAGA and to me its pretty clear that the Ancients were human. To me it all but says it , but that’s what I take from SAGA
I just love to know who the Dragon Rider is inthe 1st game that all, though I don’t think the team that made the 1st game have the 1st clue how that person is

I’ve always thought they were human. All the references in the games to me point towards they being human but short of getting confirmation from a developer I doubt we will ever get 100% certain on it.

To me they were, but thats the great thing about the game. Use your imagination and let your own thoughts decide . Sort of what happens in Total Recall (was it all a dream ?) or was Deckard a replicant .
To me he wasn’t, never mind what Riddly Scott says
doesn’t the story in the first panzer dragoon game tell us that the ancients were human?
According to the US manual:
“Thousands of years have passed since a once thriving human civilization perished in the dust. Mankind has nearly been destroyed by its own bio-weapons. These genetically altered creatures turned against their masters, and as a result, the human race was pushed to the brink of extinction.”
I’m pretty sure during the game itself tells us the ancients were human as well. I can verify this the next time I play it.
I think the only reason why people question the ancients’ identity, to this day, is because the drones, like Abadd, look nothing like a human…and, supposedly, one would assume that they would create these servants in their own image. But, why oh why, would you make a slave into your image and likeness? That would make no sense.
No. I don’t think there’ll ever be any official documentation that ever comes out and says “The Ancients were human”, so these little snippets are the closest we’ll ever get.
Abadd and other drones do look quite human in design actually. Azel of course looks the most human of all. It would make sense for them to create their servants in that way as they considered themselves gods and in many religions gods create, well, humans, to their image.
True, but Azel only looked more human than the others because she was incomplete. And by incomplete, I don’t mean just her emotions…if you take a good look, her exo-skeleton is also incomplete (the part that’s supposed to cover her head, like Abadd)

I think Azel was designed to actually look human rather than look like the rest of her body, but only her head was completed.

It would only make sense if they were human but there’s probably a good reason why Abadd would make us think otherwise. It’s possible that the Ancients “evolved” (the Sestren data network would be the ideal place to hibernate since they could basically convert matter to data) or the humans that were left behind evolved after the end of the Ancient Age.
Some of the Ancients may have had more than 24 chromosomes, probably some other upgrade technology of some sort, but I’m perfectly content believing that the “humans” in the games can be considered racial descendants of the people of the ancient society.
