As much as I like Halo and all, PD gets my vote, simply for the reason that I am always eager for knowledge of the game’s world itself.
With Halo, I can just read the novels. =D

I voted Panzer…but let’s make it simple here, if such a thing like both games being released on the same day happened I would buy both!
GAME seem to know where us employees spend our money, they pay us on Fridays…the day of the week when games are released…then there’s that good ol’ staff discount!

I can see how you can think that I would dislike Orta, but my love for the other Panzer games are as strong as any other forum member’s. For me, Orta was a disappointment in terms of gameplay and continuity of the series. The look and feel of the game wasn’t like anything we’d seen before, it was far too cartoony for my liking. That isn’t to say the graphics weren’t good, far from it. It was just the style which seemed to betray everything that made Panzer what it was visually.
I dislike Orta because I love the other games too much, and Orta is too different from them. Because PDS2 will be made by the same team (more or less) that made Orta, I’m pretty sure that they’ll have the same style in the game, and the same continuity misfits.
To directly answer your questions:
And I trust Bungie because they haven’t disappointed me, and they don’t look as if they will do. Quite simply I enjoy Halo far more than I enjoyed Orta.
And one last thing, I have no contempt for a new game, I’d just prefer it to be a game to rival the old Panzers. I don’t think that’ll happen, so naturally I am pessimistic about it.[/quote]
I don’t see how you could say it looks cartoony. You could probably say that about the Saturn games, except they were grainy. Sure some of the airships weren’t as organic as the other games, but I just thought of it as being farther in the future, and the humans have figured out even more of the technology, and had less need to recycle ancient parts. As for gameplay, I am glad they added what they did. The three different dragoon forms, and the speeding up and slowing down add a lot more strategy, and make the game harder. That is a good thing considering most games these days are too easy.
As for Halo, the game was okay, but way overated. The level design was questionable, and the multiplayer maps included just aren’t good enough. This coming from a computer fps player, the game needed better single and multiplayer maps. Too many similar textures/locations in the maps made the game seem like it was dragging on too long. The best part about the game was the story, which was related to Marathon, and I won’t get into all that. It isn’t a bad game, but I don’t think that Halo 1 guarantees that Halo 2 is going to be great.
Lastly, why your paranoid over the current team that developed Orta I don’t know. You do know where Team Andromeda ended up don’t you? Half of them are on the team that did Orta, and I absolutely loved the game.
Eh, look at the way the dragonmares move. Look at the way Lagi moves. The creature animation is shit, very cartoony. Everything is far too colourful, and unrealistically designed. It all looks like shiny plastic. The only thing I liked were the characters, Orta especially. She was well designed and animated. The gamplay wasn’t entertaining for me. It was a challenge, yes, but not entertaining.
Halo’s level design is what is neccasary. I’d rather play realistic maps than something stupid and wacky which makes no logical sense. The multiplayer maps are perfect for what they are used for, and so are the single player maps. People should really look at what is needed in a game instead of wishing for levels that are revolutionary and blah blah blah.
And my “paranoia”, as you call it, is well founded in my belief that Orta was crap. And I did know TA members were in the development team for ORta. Don’t belittle me.
Bah, I’m done.
Panzer for me. Though i do agree with some of shadows points, i think overall, Orta was a very good game, even if it was a bit “unpanzerish” in places. Anyhoo, I didn’t think Halo was all THAT good anyway, i mean it was fun but not brilliant… Now, if it was a choice between a Panzer RPG and Fable, then I might have had a little more trouble with that decision.

Relax Shadow. We all know how you feel about Orta. Recreating the series for a new generation of consoles (any console) will never yield something completely true to the look and feel of the older games. I thought Orta was ok, with explicable artistic/graphical alterations. The new Imperial ship designs can be explained when considering the advances the indigenous human population have made and the culture clash is bound to present itself in one form or another. I loved the carrier and the assault hoverships, however, as they seemed like the next step in Imperial warship design.

I would have to say that statement applies more to Halo than Orta by far. Everything in Halo is bump mapped and has that shiny plastic look.
…you do realise that Halo has a fuck load of metal areas don’t you? Panzer has little to none, it’s meant to be organic. Halo’s organic environments don’t shine, whereas Orta’s look like they’ve all been varnished.
The new Panzer game gets my vote as well. Though I agree that Halo was overhyped, I’m not going to argue that it was actually a bad game; but to me, it just didn’t feel like the absolute revolution it was built up to be. Saying that, it was certainly good and I’m sure Halo 2 will be as well. In the real world I’ll be grabbing both of these games, when one is released, and if the other is.
I’ve got to say that I agree on Orta looking unusually “shiny”, or as I thought of it, just overly bright and vivid. The Panzer Dragoon series always had a bleak and sombre visual feel to it before, and Orta just didn’t continue that very well. I mean, It’s hard to imagine a place like the Forest of Mutation existing in the same world as Saga, and the sky and clouds in Episode 4 just seemed way too bright and fluffy. But maybe that’s just me
That’s why the nest game will be a prequel to one fo the previous games in order to deliver to us the old school imperial designs we all love (me at least).Either that or they can make a sequel that includes and explains some sort of IMperial revolution (another) one, so they put the old designs with a true justification.
Hmm, mebbe Smilebit and Bungie should get together and create a Panzer FPS. In the sky on the dragon is usual Panzer Gameplay and on the ground the character is in FPS mode…perhaps like Morrowind RPG wise or hunting down an Imperial soldier with the usual Panzer carbine.
Or we could just forget I ever said any of that…
Yeah :\
shivers
I thought that the Great Fall probably contibuted to the overall change in the environment. Perhaps without the Towers’ impact on the landscape, the world would start to heal and gradually become brighter. The changes in creature designs could be contributed to the changing environment too - they would need to blend in to camaflague themselves, etc. Panzer Dragoon Orta took place over thirty years after Saga so there would have been time for some changes to take place.
Perhaps?!
Yes, these are the justifications I came up with too; and the idea that the new Imperial ship designs probably look the way they do because of the merger with the southern culture, among other things. Still, it doesn’t feel quite so “Panzery” anymore, despite there being decent reasons. That was my essential feeling; that Orta’s visual style is certainly different to the previous games, and isn’t really as atmospheric or distinctive.
Exactly.
Doesn’t mean it sucks tho…
