"SAN FRANCISCO - April 5, 2004 - Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest videogame publishers, today revealed the critically acclaimed and best-selling Myst? franchise will launch its newest adventure, Myst? IV Revelation, this fall. Peter Gabriel, world-renowned recording artist, worked in collaboration with award-winning composer Jack Wall to create the game’s immersive and ambient soundtrack.
“We are excited to announce Myst IV Revelation and proud that it comes from our own Ubisoft Montreal studios,” said Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft Inc. “Myst IV Revelation will only add to the strength of the Myst franchise, which continues to lead the Adventure category in critical acclaim, fan following, and sales.”
Within the visually awe-inspiring world of Myst, a gripping family drama will slowly unfold. A little girl disappears, her two brothers are suspected, and it is clear that their story is far from over. Players will escape into the adventure as they attempt to solve the mystery and discover the fate of the two villainous brothers, Sirrus and Achenar. Understanding their motives is the key to the investigation which will lead to a true “revelation.”
“Myst IV Revelation will take players into the twisted minds and worlds of two evil brothers, deep inside an intense family drama, and immerse them within a visually stunning environment,” said Genevieve Lord, producer at Ubisoft. “The game is simply a ‘must-have’ for Myst fans and will also appeal to new players. The storyline is very suspenseful, the puzzles are compelling, and the music, produced by Jack Wall in partnership with Peter Gabriel, will create an unparalleled experience.”
Gah!!!
I’m gonna go euphorically berserk now!Sirrus is gonna be in this game and the great master Peter Gabriel is part of the music team!!!
Myst rocks. I really need to get my ass in gear and beat Exile.
I tried to replay Myst/Riven a few days ago but Myst Masterpiece Edition won’t work right in XP and Riven requires Quicktime 3.0 which is too old for me to bother to install.
Give me one good reason why I should play Riven, Gehn. I’m currently playing Headhunter for the Dreamcast, and the next games I intend to tick off my list are Return To Krondor and Hundred Swords for the PC. I might consider tracking down a copy of Riven.
I remember that the creators of the series really loved developing Myst and Riven, but I get the feeling that the series has been turned into a cashcow, like the once esteemed Command And Conquer series. Am I wrong?
Most definately.Simply because altho popular the Myst series aren’t played in the same proprotion.
I admit that Myst may not appeal to many because it completely erases the word violence out of it’s world (as far as gameplay is concerned anyway) but Riven and Exile and Myst are extraordinary games.
I don’t play them when I wanna kick butt,I play them when I relax and dream. And think.Riven has some of the most intriguin puzzles ever seen in a videogame IMO.The music is breathtaking. The scenarios are dreamy.
It’s cheap as hell.There is no way I wouldn’t buy/check this out.
Meet Gehn in it? Why, is this going to be online like URU: Ages beyond Myst was going to be? Anyway, I don’t trust the company anymore, you don’t put so much advertising in the online part of your new game, write on the back of it’s box that it’s a part of the game and then end up never getting it to work cos of technical issues… They should have finished their testing BEFORE they release the game so that they wouldn’t have advertised all about it, and even written it on the back of the box… They should be sued or something by all the people that bought it since in the end it didn’t include all the adverts and the back of the box was saying…
I dont think the series has been turned into a cashshow Geof, as far as I know after myst the only title is URU that I mentioned above and while good on paper it didn’t work out in execution. The company made a mistake but I don’t think they made it in an effort to turn the series into a cashshow. And Riven was before that anyway, just the second game in the series, it was even on the Saturn wasn’t it?
Oh yeah, if you want a good adventure game get Syberia (the original not the sequel though) or The Longest Journey. Masterpieces in their own right.
Well then you needn’t to trust them…
Cyan is not the one responsible for Myst IV Revelation.
Or Myst III Exile for that matter.
And things like Uru happen all the time.I don’t trust companies who make videogames, I buy their games based on their quality.
Well I didn’t buy the game, I’ve just been reading about it. And things like that don’t happen all the time, it’s one thing to say your game rocks and it ends up bad (duh, noone will ever say their game is bad) and a totally different thing to write content that ends up not available in the back of the box.
Edit: Also ubisoft was the publisher so they are as much to blame for that as Cyan anyway… Ubisoft made the boxes and the adverts as well
And since you judge games by their quality only how come you are so excited over this already, you don’t know it’s quality, it’s not even developed yet, all you know is that it’s a new Myst game. It’s not even developed by the ppl that did the original games you love and yet you still are excited. I think that shows that to some extent you get excited over names as well, it doesn’t make much difference whether the name is the game’s or the company’s.
I’ve played through Myst and Exile, and they are both great games. The difficulty of the puzzles in Exile was very well balanced and the different worlds were all interesting (I wasn’t impressed by the story though). I’m looking forward to Revelation, it seems the game is going back to its roots after the failed online element in Uru.
The Longest Journey is one of my favourite games ever. The creators of that game really managed to breathe life into the characters in a way that I haven’t seen in other games. Funcom is working on a sequel, Dreamfall, which will probably make its way to XBox too.
They sold the rights to Ubisoft altho they still provide guidance in any Myst game.
They wanted time and needed the money to make a project like Uru possible.
I read in Sega Saturn Magazine that Riven took four years to develop. The game was clearly a labor of love (at least to the developers).
I should dig up that old SSM interview with Cyan. When the lead developer was asked why the game world was so devoid of human activity, he responded by saying that it would “break the spell”. I can’t help but admire people who love making games.
I don’t know if it’s in Europe, but in the US there’s a “Myst Trilogy” 3-DVD set, I saw it for $20 the other day. I would reccomend that to anyone who hasn’t played them.

Yeah Riven was a big revolution when compared to Myst.If you take the reasons I stated above in consideration you can see why it took so long.
Btw the guy in my avatar is a character from Myst (one of two brothers);he’s actually one of the lead guys for Riven.
He and his brother (who also plays a role in the games).Robyn Miller and Rand Miller.Robyn Miller also did the music for the games.
Yep this is true, just one more reason why everybody shoul get this.
Btw I dind’t mention this before but instead of buying Myst people should check realMyst out. It’c ompletely in 3d and it is even better game. You can actually move inside the world much like Uru.In fact it has the same engine as Uru I think…
I’ve encountered the character in your avatar Gehn. I used to own Myst for the Saturn. If I remember correctly, both Brothers betray you if you release them…
