OK, well I was bored for an hour or so and I decided to make some desktop wallpaper based on the Genos fan movie. The finished thing actually looks quite good, so I thought I’d share it with you guys. (I hope lordcraymen and SK don’t mind me randomly using their stuff.)
Please don’t use the hoffman font for anything else than a PD logo.
And never use completely capitalized text, it looks terrible.
My complete apologies; I honestly didn’t think you would have minded, and on reading your post I would have taken the thing offline immediately. As you can see, however, Angelfire have - in their infinite, erm, wisdom - already done that for me.
(For anyone who’s interested, I wasn’t gestating the next global porn empire on there or anything, it’s just that I registered the site four weeks ago and hadn’t got around to building it yet. Ho hum. Fortunately there were only about seven files on it; unfortunately one of them was my avatar for these forums.)
As to your points, I actually got the inspiration for using Hoffman from Sega’s official Panzer Dragoon Orta web site, which if anything uses it more gratuitously than I did. I guess how much it should be used is just down to personal opinion. As for the all caps text, yes, it is generally bad presentation. Capitalising copyright text on wallpaper is common practice, though, because it allows the text to remain small but also readable - as with this official Panzer Dragoon Orta wallpaper, for example.
Anyway, please understand that I wasn’t meaning to irritate you in any way, I just thought that your fan movie had some quite cool and striking imagery that fitted this kind of thing nicely. I never planned to have it up for more than a day or so either, but that has already been arranged by those wonderful guys at Angelfire…
(Does anyone know of any free web site providers who aren’t quite so quick to erase your site without even bothering to notify you?)
Many thanks, Arcie; it will be in the mail shortly. (I’ll send it to your Hotmail account, if that’s OK.) When I finally get around to working on some kind of site, I’ll give Geocities a try myself.
And because certain people at SEGA do things, they don’t become better or “right”.
This is true; that rambling was really meant as more of an explanation than a justification. After all, if I thought that Sega was some kind of infallible entity, I would have to be either a) crazy or b) well, really crazy
