Finally got my own Orta copy

So, my very own copy of Panzer Dragoon Orta has finally arrived today.

I never had an Xbox (went for PS2 at the time) so the only taste of Orta i ever got was by playing a little at a friends house and watching playthroughs at the internet.

Now , i must admit this day felt like Christmas, i never actually had the box in my hands before and as i looked into the images at the back and the amazing artwork at the front of my PAL version i could not help but have a huge grin on my face, but little did i know that things would only get better.

When i opened the box the first thing i notice is the disc, i must admit that the original Xbox discs look much better than the PS2 ones.

And then the cherry on top of the cake, this huge manual describing everything! Storyline, backstory, character, stages, etc, plus some awsome artwork!

Seriously, why don?t they make manuals like this anymore? I really felt like a kid today going back and forth reading every page carefully, appreciating the artwork and the text, just awsome.

So now the only thing left is to get my own Xbox so i can properly play this bad boy after so many years :anjou_happy:

Well you have 2 options.
A) Risk getting an original xbox for cheep.
B) get a 360.

For me it is honestly a toss up in the air sort of thing if I was in the same situation.

Now I am curious what condition is the manual in?

The manual is like new :anjou_happy:

I don?t know if i will go for the 360, i recently got my own PS3 so getting a 360 would be rather expensive :S

Are you in a PAL or NTSC region, Windrider? If you’re in an NTSC region, I’d go with the Xbox 360 since Orta plays on the NTSC 360 without crashing.

The 360 is an investment, because there’ll be new games coming out for it, e.g. Crimson Dragon. It’s a console that’s still far from dead and it can be sometimes worth paying more for the more future-proofed option.

I?m in PAL region.

I would gladly get a 360, but the problem is that having bought a PS3 already, getting a 360 would be far too expensive. Also consider that i?m at University right now so every month theres a huge expenses with bills and fees.

If i get a decent job during summer maybe i?ll get a 360 but with the huge crisis going on in my country (Portugal) i doubt i?ll even get a summer job.

Getting an Xbox 1 is a far cheaper :S

Yeah in that case an original Xbox does seem like the better choice. Also some games aren’t emulated that well on the 360. For example, JSRF suffers from slowdown in places.

Time has been kind to the Xbox. I never would have guessed it, considering how badly that console had a stigma for being The Halo Machine.

Nice find. Even if the main game isn’t to your liking, I believe you’ll find something of interest in the bonus content.

It’s also fun to play the game knowing that it was directed by the man who directed Panzer Dragoon Saga’s combat system, instead of series godfather Yukio Futatsugi. Explains quite a bit.

If you’re prepared to mess around with Orta on 360, you can unlock Pandora’s Box fully based on playtime and play the game that way. It’s a bit clunky though.

I?m going to order a copy of PDO soon because I?ve just moved into a new flat to which my friend will soon be taking an original Xbox. I?m excited!

Welcome Terramax. There’s some information about the different versions of PDO linked at the bottom of this article:

The bonus soundtrack consists of four sample tracks which you can listen to here:

I believe so (having never owned the non-limited edition NTSC-J version).

According to wikipedia, people have problems with the game crashing when playing it on the 360.

I play it on my classic xbox, which I bought solely to play Orta and JSRF. The console cost me ?15 at Gamestation. There are also several other gems on the system I sniffed at first time round which I’m having the joy of going through now, for instance, Smilebit’s other hugely flawed, yet still very fun game, Gun Valkyrie.

Interesting comment about the manual. I bought PD brand new, and put the box straight back into the plastic seal after taking out the disc. I must remember to pull the box out again and have a look.

Whilst on the subject of Orta, can anyone tell me more about the difference between the standard versions of Orta and the Japanese limited edition? I understand there’s a special soundtrack that comes with it. Is it worth investing in?

Thanks for that. But am I right in saying that’s about it? No change in the manual, or box (besides what I think are some slightly altered colours)?

In which case, probably not worth investing in.
