I heard something from a website saying the american ending of Panzer Dragoon Saga was changed. In the original japanese version Azel fell in love with crayman instead of edge. The ending was totally different from the American version. Is this true? Does anyone have any info on this?
Azel didn’t love Edge in the Japanese version from what I hear… that was a plot twist added in by Chris Lucich, the translator. As for Craymen, who knows? It seems like she cared for him the English version too, but romantically I doubt. Azel had only just begun to understand her feelings when Craymen died.
I think we need to clear this up once and for all. Perhaps someone ‘in the know’ could shed some light on this? Abadd?
Solowing is there valid info somewhere on a website we all can check out about the changes made to the Amerecan ending of Panzer Dragoon Saga and the differences between them?Where did you hear of find this info about the translator changing the ending?Just would like to know.
Lord Craymen, the admin of the old forums posted this information a while ago (near the end of last year I believe). I don’t see any reason for him to have made it up. I seem to remember Abadd (a member of these forums) commenting on this change as well. Hopefully he’ll see this thread and post here.
Chris Lucich wasn’t the translator, he was the writer (or the “re-writer” if you want to be more accurate). He doesn’t speak Japanese, which made it a challenge for him to rewrite the dialogue from Engrish into proper English.
That being said, when he got the original script translated, the translation was very rough, and much of the dialogue that he wrote had to be written from context of the story that he knew, and from what was going on on-screen.
The final scene in PDS was not meant to show Azel professing her love for Edge, although such a bond could have been and was inevitable.
In the original Japanese, her feelings are more towards Craymen (operative word is more). This does not necessarily mean she had romantic feelings towards him, but if you analyze her actions, she is inexplicably loyal to Craymen.
Though, in the end, she decides to devote herself to helping Edge.
You make the decision on where her heart truly lies.
Abadd, is there a website or source of information where us panzer fans can read further into this topic about the changes made to the American ending? My friend found this info on a website, I myself cant find. I was wondering if you know of a website with this info.
When Edge leaves for Sestren, Azel doesn’t actually say “I love you”. She just says, “I…”. Whether she was going to say “I love you” or not is unknown, and irrelevant.
I’m paraphrasing Lord Craymen (the poster) from the old forums, but I trust his information was more than accurate. He also stated she was “in love with Craymen”.
So, Azel never loved Edge, yet she shows a profound loyalty to Craymen. Why exactly?
I think she would probably have been loyal to anyone who awakened her. What’s interesting though is that she didn’t really have a choice in human DNA to create Orta. I wonder what would have happened if she had a choice between Edge or Craymen’s DNA?
Azel’s feelings for Craymen went well beyond loyalty, IMO. She was unquestioningly loyal to him for reasons we can easily determine. Either way, I think Craymen exploited her very feelings in order to achieve his goals.
He probably did. I wonder how much knowledge he had about Azel before he found her. He seemed to know a great deal about what happened to her in the Ancient Age.

The Empire found out about her, which in itself, makes me wonder what exactly they were studying. Ancient rebel archives, maybe?
Interesting. If the Empire was able to find archives about the rebels, then why didn’t the Ancients themselves find out about their plans? Perhaps the rebels had foreseen the end of the Ancient Age. They could have purposely left information behind for the future generation (like the existence of the Divine Visitor).
The rebels were from the Ancient Age.The Empire wasn’t.After the end of the Ancient Age the Emprie had data that the Ancients couldn’t possibly possess…
