Blaze to revive SEGA Genesis former glory

Peripheral manufacturer Blaze is to revive the best-selling, once dominant Sega Mega Drive games console.

The new machine will be released as a handheld and will come bundled with 20 titles built in for ?29.99.

Among the classic games supplied with the unit will be Sonic And Knuckles, Ecco The Dolphin, Golden Axe, Kid Chameleon, Shinobi, Alex Kidd, Altered Beast, Alien Storm and Enchanted Castle.

The handheld, which will launch this month, can also be connected to a TV set using a cable included.

A Blaze statement reads: ?If you missed playing Sega Mega Drive classics such as Sonic And Knuckles, Golden Axe, Shinobi and Ecco The Dolphin, you now have a chance to do so again and all for the price of a single Nintendo DS game.?

I need teh pix

Haven’t various companies done that already? I recall various “controller only which connects to the tv” and sadly none took carts, just had the built in games.

Not just pix, but a a promotional video aswell.

And yeah, this isn’t anything new, remember the Nomad? At any rate, this is a pretty good price.

It’s not like a Nomad because afaik it can’t take carts, only the built in games.

So who made this old version then?

I guess the difference is the new one is really portable having its own screen, while the old one had to be hooked up to a tv (the main unit in the pic is just the power adaptor shaped like a genesis, it still couldn’t take carts).

There is a new Mini Megadrive in Japan that takes carts.

It can be purchased from Play-Asia.

There also has already been a Megadrive handheld LCD game…

This news is not particularily special.

I’d buy it. Throw in Sonic CD, and it’s as good as sold to me.
