Azel Panzer Dragoon RPG Sample version

Maybe I missed this entirely, but does anyone know about this sample version of Azel; Panzer Dragoon RPG?

The video is interesting, as it depicts the FMV at the village of Cainus but it differs significantly from that of the full game. Edge and Gash reflect on the events that happened before, and Edge is apparently already aware of Azel’s name. Furthermore when questioned what he was going to do, Edge’s stated his goal was to retrieve Azel. In the full game, he’s just looking for revenge at that point in time. I have to wonder if this was specifically created as a demo, or if the scene in question was entirely reworked later on. It’s entirely possible the story changed, as Futatsugi did state in an interview that a lot of content had to be cut from the game.

That’s interesting. It might be worth exploring.

I wonder what else they had to cut because PD Saga feels like a pretty complete game.

I’d have to look up the interview, but I remember reading that they had to cut a lot out of the game.

This looks interesting. I wasn’t aware of it existing.

I hope you don’t mind Draikin, but I moved this to the main forum so that others can join in the discussion.

It appears that this is the same demo that was included with the Mini version of the soundtrack. The product codes match. I haven’t played it myself, but Lance wrote a brief encyclopaedia entry about it:

I’d be really interested to know what was cut.

In many games it’s obvious when something is cut because there are clues that indicate that something is missing (Baldur’s Gate 2 is a very good example of this because you see the cult of Bhaal around a table at the end of the game but BioWare decided to change the story later and write them out).

Hello,

Yes, please!

The Panzer Dragoon Saga Jap Demo ISO is available on this link below :

It effectively a work in progress demo. Because the game is very slowly, you can morph your dragon as you want. You pass through the first part of the excavation site, then you battle the BalDor Spawn and directly the Arachnoth.

At the beginning and at the end of this demo, you have a cinematic where you can see Gash and Edge discuss near to a fire camp.

Thanks for sharing. I downloaded it, but I have not had the opportunity to try it yet.

I see that the disc image is a .iso file. Is there no audio tracks on the CD?

Thanks for uploading this PXL! I’ve yet to play it, but I’ll be sure to give it a try when I have time later on.

arf, effectively, i don’t know, i made the iso with cdburnerXP.

tell me if it’s function, if no, i’ll made a ccd with cloneCD

but lgically, the musics are programmed in panzer zwei nd saga so no audio tracks logically

The full game of Panzer Dragoon Saga came with a message spoken by a different character on each disc (when inserted into a CD player). I’m curious if the demo includes something similar.

It has a standardized CD player warning for track 2. There is no title screen track like there is for each game disc for the retail release.

I almost forgot that I owned this thing. The mini soundtrack is notable if only because the music for The Forbidden Zone is closer to the in-game version, unlike the recorded version that is on the complete album.

Is that the CD player warning spoken by Edge’s voice actor? I believe the warning on each disc was spoken by a different voice actor. Edge was disc 1.

It might be worth it if you uploaded a version with the no-CD audio track for completeness. Perhaps as .cue and .bin files?

Since it’s demo it should be okay if I upload the files to The Will of the Ancients’ downloads section and share this with the wider Panzer Dragoon community too.

It’s not. It’s a 20 second clip with the warning spoken twice in a row by a female.

i’ll make a ccd with cloneCD no ?

I think the CUE/BIN is the more open format… isn’t CCD a proprietary format?

The other difference I remember (I don?t think there are any others?) is that the Mini Album has the shorter (i.e. each section lasts for less time before introducing the next), Gigra-style version of ?Giant Being 1? rather than the longer, Arachnoth-y one on the Complete/Memorial Albums; of course, the extension was probably done to accommodate the cut-scene about Arachnoth.

More so, but I think certain other applications can use it. If CloneCD did any more error-checking/-correction than the programs typically used to rip bin/cue, that might be an argument in its favour due to the inherent unreliability of CDDA (if anyone is interested, just research it, and you?ll be forever disappointed with the format)? but I don?t know whether either one is more robust than the other.
