Flick to page 3 and you’ll find the following at the bottom of the page:
Ever thought of making an RPG style title?
Nagoshi: Yes, yes. We?ll probably announce something in the near future. Of course we can?t delve into the small details, but our team is working on some stuff, including an action-adventure and an RPG style game. Next year should be very interesting for us. This year was sort of like a preparation, really. Please look forward to it!
Could one of these even possibly be a new Panzer Dragoon game? Or perhaps the rumoured “true” Shining Force game?
Whoa, that be great if it was
Would be about time I suppose…
Maybe he just doesn’t want to give anything away just yet…springing a surprise on everyone.
I’m not gonna get my hopes up though…not after stuff like NEO
I don’t foresee Sega of Japan giving the greenlight for a new Panzer Dragoon RPG for a long time, if ever.
It would be a wonderful twist of fate if the Panzer team at Amusement Vision were developing the other Shining Force game though. If anyone could take the trademark gameplay of the series further into the 3D realm it would be them.
Of course, I won’t allow mere rumors to raise my hopes. Not after the Shining Force Neo fiasco. I’m beginning to wonder if we will ever see another true Shining Force game developed for a home console from Sega.
Though I’m not sure if it’s what Nagoshi-san is talking about, you guys do realize that Shining Force Neo is made by Amusement Vision, right? If you aren’t happy with the way that’s turning out, what gives you hope that another RPG from the same group would be any better?

Shining Force Neo has more or less been revealed to the gaming public for what it is, so I assume that Nagoshi-san was referring to something that has yet to be revealed. Sega also announced that another “Shining Force” game was development besides Neo, but whatever shape the new game takes remains to be seen.
If it doesn’t turn out to be another Shining Force game for the PS2, then it will probably be another remake for the GBA. Sigh.
Absolutely. It would be unfair to expect Sega to continue the story Camelot started.
I don’t have very high hopes of seeing a new, true Shining Force game though.
I don’t see why AV couldn’t make a 3D Strategy/RPG in the same vein as the older Shining Force games. Would it really be beyond their abilities? Only time will tell I suppose.
Nowhere does it say that this is a strategy RPG =\
If they were going to make a strategy RPG, don’t you think they would have made the Shining Force RPG a strategy RPG?
Sure, developers may be good in some genres and suck horribly in others, but I’m just saying that a healthy dose of skepticism would probably be best here. Who knows? Maybe it will be a great game. But, if, say, a random videogame company released a (supposedly) crappy RPG, would you be excited about the prospect of them doing another? What has Amusement Vision made in recent history that would give you the indication that they could make a good one?
He mentions action adventure, and I’d rather see an action/adventure Panzer game anywho…
When I was first hearing about Shining Force Action/RPG it made me think of how cool the LandStalker and Dark Savior games were- maybe there is some hope.
I don’t know.Maybe they felt like changing things.Whim.
I learned not to judge a company like that.Lots of companies made games I hated/didn’t like and also made games I love.I’m not a Sonic fan and yet I love Burning Rangers.I dind’t like Tomb Raider Chronicles and I loved Tomb Raider 1.I was hoping PDO to be a super bomb and the visuals in it allied with some of the music made me dissappointed.Yet I know most of the guys responsible for it did a bunch of toher stuff I loved before.
It’s saddening to think that Climax, who made LandStalkers, also made Climax Landers.
:shudders:
Well, most of the developers who had a hand in the creation of Landstalker left Climax to develop Alundra for the Playstation. Both games are supposed to be very similar in the gameplay department (I must track down a copy of Alundra).
And remember, Landstalker was originally going to be a part of the Shining series answering to the name of “Shining Rogue” with Max from the original Shining Force as its main character (Landstalker and Shining Force actually share some of the same sound effects, sound for sound).
I find it rather ironic that Shining Force Neo is Action/RPG with a character called Max at the helm.
I’d love to think that someone at Sega would like to make a Shining Force Strategy/RPG for one of the leading consoles. Whether or not Sega sees such a game’s potential for success or not still remains to be seen… as usual.

I always knew there was some connection (That is why I thought Landstalker when I heard Neo) but I never knew what - thanks!

Hey, I liked Climax Landers. I even have the soundtrack. Sure it has some flaws to it, but if you like dungeon crawlers it has some merit to it. The story’s a bit offbeat, with all these worlds merging out of nowhere, but if you interact with the townspeople a lot they’ll wander all out of their original areas and into the other world segments. My favorite’s the tribal guy from the jungle setting who goes into modern day Japan, discovers the convenience store, and gets himself a business suit to blend in with the locals.
