A Simple Question

Why do you like Panzer Dragoon?

scope: it’s a fully realized world on par or exceeding worlds like those of starwars or lord of the rings in their original concepts. they make no allowances, play by the rules established, and deliver believable and logical events - something almost everything else lacks.

play: just a rail shooter, but the execution makes it seem like nothing you’ve seen before. the bosses are always tremendous, the settings are amazing, creature designs range from beautiful to nightmarish.

story: in something like final fantasy, everything seems so “set up”, too “convenient”, and ultimately “naive”. it’s really formulaic and predictable. PD follows less of those archetypes and in the end delievers a much more “realistic” experience.

follow through: i once told a friend that after playing games like panzer dragoon and ecco the dolphin, all other games seem like puppet shows. what i meant was that all other games just feel like they exist only when you are looking at them, and are only made to be looked at from certain directions. they do not take into account the natural and logical development of various situations, things are only relevent for the duration of the time that they are put on the stage.

i wonder if that makes sense to anyone other than me.

The aesthetics are different from anything else. The coolias, the dragon gun,the clothes, the landscapes and most important of all - the music was just differently good.

Then there is the story. The sense of unreachable realization is also good sometimes.

I could be lazy and just use a blanket term like ‘atmosphere’ and then offer no elaboration, and since I AM lazy I think I’ll do just that.
