Has anyone considered the meaning behind the name “Edge”? Do you think Team Andromeda chose it because it sounded cool or is there a deeper meaning?
Theory: Edge represents the edge of the Panzer Dragoon world, the boundary between that world and the player (the Divine Visitor). His actions are not entirely on one side or the other.
After some research, the word “Egi” (which is how Edge’s name is pronounced in the Japanese dialogue throughout the game) seems to be sourced from a Latin word of similar vernacular meaning “driven or controlled by” (which would make a lot of sense) but also has roots in other languages, like Korean in which Egi means “baby.” I could not find a related Japanese meaning that would have made any sense, so it’s likely sourced from another language.
