The Phantasy Star I Sega Ages remake wasn’t bad at all…nice artwork. I’m looking forward to the PS II and PS IV Sega Ages remakes.

Yeah… The Phantasy Star is probably the only one that was actually “upgraded.” All they did was just make prettier sprites, which, I suppose when compared to everything else, is more than you can ask for. The other games managed to somehow be much, much worse than the originals. shudders

Welcome to the club. At least I finally got to play Megaman.
haah yeah, i did the same thing. but then i sold my gamecube.
Actually, before you guys get all excited about these games… take a look at all the other Sega Ages remakes. Let me know if you find a single one worth spending money on, because I haven’t. They have unanimously been crappy

I would have bought the Streets of Rage collection, had it come out outside of Japan and on a console I actually owned.
It is indeed
I for one would n’t want Working Designs get their hands on another Sega RPG after the mess in the Saturn era…
I think it’s time for Sega to embrace their own RPGs outside of the japanese markets. Now that Sammy is in control we have to see if SOA
and SE attitude to RPGs has changed or not. The remakes cost next to nothing to produce and could easily come out in the west. We’ll see if SegaSammy is any better than the old regime of Sega of Japan,America and Europe.
Let’s just say that what Abadd does for a living is similar to my former relationship with Working Designs (hence my fondness for Dragon Force). I’m speaking because of what I know having been there. A company needs to make money, and Vic Ireland does give people reason to dislike him, but the man really does like his work.
Hahaha… Well, I’ve got nothing against Working Designs and the staff… just a little old school grudge with Mr. Ireland
To be completely honest, I couldn’t care less now, but man… back in the day…
Yeah, I know how it goes.
Well it’s taken quite a while for this to actually strike me, but… why have Sega chosen to re-release Fighting Vipers, of all things? Dragon Force has a good reputation, but surely Fighting Vipers wasn’t overly successful in the first place?
I’m sure that all incarnations of the game (arcade and Saturn) were successful in Japan since it has a lot in common with Virtua Fighter.
A lot of great stuff was cut from the Saturn conversion of Fighting Vipers including a 3D plane taking off on a runway and flying over one of the arenas as you fight. I welcome an arcade perfect conversion even though it will probably never reach our shores (knowing Sega).
That plane was intact in Fighters Megamix, strangely enough.
If I remember correctly it was only a 2D sprite in Megamix though, and although it was only on-screen for a second at the beginning of the match it didn’t look too impressive. Incidentally, I’d completely forgotten that Fighting Vipers got a sequel (Fighting Vipers 2) in the arcades and on the Dreamcast (in Japan), as I’ve never played it myself; the game must have been more successful than I was giving it credit for, at least over there.
Yeah but it was a massive 2D sprite. It looked dead impressive back in it’s day.
Fight Vipers II sucked in the Arcades and in on the DC. It lacks the bone crushing feeling and fast pace of the original.
Hope SEGA get the port right this time (Unlike the PS2 port of VF II). The 3D backrounds were awesome.
I never got to play Fighting Vipers…suppose, from what has been said, I’m not at too much of a loss.
Better off with Fighters Megamix…I personally thought the plane was a nice touch and tried to get it as oftern as I could. Well, I’d try and get the glass elevator more oftern, now that was a design! Smashing them through the glass letting them fall to their, messy, doom.
Wonder why you don’t see those kind of level designs in fighting games these days…
I kinda like FIGHTING VIPERS and the culture that it has established around itself and VIRTUA FIGHTER. it’s very undergroundish and more incommon with street culture than anything else. Even the obscure games like LAST BRONX is part of this world. it’s only good for sega to finally exploit the level of fans that they have accumilated along the years by giving them what they want. Of course the DRAGON FORCE Sega Ages title is the most desirable out of the whole series so far. Let’s hope that RIGLORD SAGA gets the same treatment.
