Gamefaqs poll

  1. I’m only talking about the US in terms of marketshare.

  2. I’m only talking about market share at any given point… not total games sold since each company formed.

Nintendo games do sell a lot, but when you think about how many games Nintendo actually releases a year, you’ll see why.

(and I’m not entirely sure those sales numbers are accurate, either… they sound a bit high, but who knows?)

Considering that Nintendo operates on two platforms right now, instead of 3 (or 4 if you include PC) the way EA does, they have been rather close to them. Nintendo is the third largest publisher, in terms of software sales, worldwide. First is EA, and slightly behind them is Activision. Nintendo is a bit further behind Activision.

Are you sure Activision is in second? I could have sworn it was Nintendo… but, it’s been a while since I’ve seen official numbers, so I could very well be wrong.

To be honest, I’m not 100% certain, but I’m pretty sure. You could always check on old GameSpot news articles to find quarterly and yearly results that the companies send out.

In terms of pure profit, Nintendo is easily the most profitable - they were expecting to make about 740 million dollars in profits this year a few months ago. That might not pan out, though, because the dollar has weakened recently…

For Nintendo, though, I’m sure the Yen profit is more important, since I’m sure they’re not traded on the US stock exchange, anyway.

But yeah… they have a lot of money. I mean, heck… they own the Seattle Mariners, fer cryin’ out loud

Nintendo has 12 billion dollars in the bank (Microsoft has about 64 billion).

Nintendo works in the dollar, unlike most Japanese companies, so their profits go down when the yen is strong against the dollar. That is why they only made a little over $200 million in profit last year…
